As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Columbia and Greene counties, officials are looking at the best ways to provide testing to residents. Columbia County reported 102 active cases on Monday while Greene County reported
28 cases. Greene County has been offering weekly testing clinics at the Greene County Office Building in Catskill since July, but is looking to hold a clinic on the mountaintop next month, Legislature Chairman Patrick Linger, R-New Baltimore, said Monday.
“Right now they have one planned for Dec. 2 from 3-5 p.m. in Hunter,” Linger said, adding he did not know the exact location. The weekly clinics will continue each Wednesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. as Public See TESTING A8

All civil and criminal jury trials across New York are postponed indefinitely as the COVID-19 pandemic surges across the nation, with increasing cases by the day statewide. New jury trials and the summoning of new trial jurors are
halted until further notice, state Chief Judge Janet DiFiore said Monday. “While we are very pleased with the progress we have made to reaffirm the right to a trial by jury in New York state, the time has come to pause our efforts,” she said Monday See JURY A8

Team effort to deliver holiday dinners By Sarah Trafton Columbia-Greene Media
The COVID-19 pandemic will not get in the way of feeding those in need this Thanksgiving. Some community dinners have been canceled and others changed to takeout and delivery. Community Action of Greene County is seeing an increase in need with the cancellation of other dinners, Director Florence Ohle said. “This year, with COVID, we weren’t going to do it but we reached out to the Department of Human Services and they weren’t doing one, Liam and Laura Singer at Avalon Longue said they weren’t going to do one, so it just felt like we had to do something,” Ohle said. with Avalon Lounge and the Catskill Elks Lodge to prepare meals this year,
Ohle said. “Last year we delivered 111 dinners
throughout the entire county,” she said. “There were 184 requests for dinners as of Monday.” “It’s a big undertaking,” Ohle said. “This is something we feel very strongly about and are glad to do it for the community.” The meals are distributed to senior citizens, low-income households and the homeless, Ohle said. “We have quite a few homeless individuals that we are aware of in the motels that have no way to store food or prepare food in their room,” she said. Community Action’s mobile food pantry visits the motels a couple times a week, Ohle said, adding that announcements for Thanksgiving dinners were distributed to these communities. See DINNERS A8
