TANNERSVILLE — Fire destroyed a home in Tannersville early Monday morning, fire officials said Monday. Tannersville firefighters responded to 5935 Main St. just after 1 a.m., officials said. They were at the scene for almost

four hours. The two-story wood-frame home was fully involved when they arrived at the scene and immediately requested mutual aid, officials said. The home was completely destroyed and some parts of the building collapsed during the fire, officials said. No injuries were reported to

firefighters battling the blaze, officials said. Two people who were renting the home were able to get out safely, but they were taken to Columbia Memorial Health in Hudson to be checked out for minor smoke inhalation, Tannersville Assistant Fire See FIRE A4

LOS ANGELES — It was a rare rainy day in the City of Angels when Hillsdale Town Supervisor Peter Cipkowski and his husband Bill Kramer attended the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony Sunday.

Actor Tom Hanks announced the new Academy of Motion Pictures Museum at 6067 Wilshire Blvd., will open on the Los Angeles County Museum of Art campus Dec. 14 with Kramer as its director. Kramer moved to Hillsdale five years ago from Los Angeles.

He accepted the job last fall and took over Jan. 1. Cipkowski will split his time between Los Angeles and Hillsdale while Kramer settles into his new role. “[My husband] actually worked with Tom Hanks over the weekend to prepare the launch announcement of the

museum,” Cipkowski said. “Now there’s this large complex devoted to the art and study of motion pictures, and the history of motion pictures, that my husband is the director of.” A project years in the making, Kramer acted as the Academy Museum’s managing director

of development and external relations from 2012 to 2016, being instrumental throughout city council approval processes. “I have a deep connection to the Academy Museum,” Kramer said. “I am so looking forward See MOTION A4

Family members and area schools are mourning the passing of teacher Victoria Sweatt of Hudson, who was killed Friday in a onecar crash in the Fulton County town of Mayfield. State police are looking into the accident to determine its exact cause.

MAYFIELD — A Hudson woman died in a car crash in the Fulton County town of Mayfield on Friday, state police said. Victoria Sweatt, 43, was killed when the 2012 Hyundai Elantra she was driving crossed into the southbound lane on Route 30 in Mayfield and collided head-on with a tractor-trailer, according to state police. The tractor-trailer, which was traveling south at the time of the collision, was operated by 57-year-old Daniel Barr of

Cobleskill, according to state police. Barr was not ticketed in the crash, Trooper Kerra Burns said. There had been a snowstorm the day of the accident, and weather is thought to have been a factor in the crash, Burns said. “It looks to be weatherrelated, but that is from the preliminary investigation,” Burns said. “We had a storm that day in the area. We believe the crash was related to the weather.” Investigators are continuing to look into the crash and determine its exact cause,

state police. Mayfield had freezing rain Thursday night, turning to snow on Friday, according to meteorologist Dan Thompson of the National Weather Service in Albany. The area had four to five inches of snow of the ground by the time the storm ended Friday afternoon. “There was rain turning to snow that day, and freezing rain the night before,” Thompson said. “We had a winter weather advisory for the area on Friday.” Sweatt lived in Hudson with her husband of 21 years,
