WINDHAM — Authorities are looking for a man who is suspected of stealing firearms from a Windham home, including one weapon owned by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. “The Greene County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into the theft of weapons taken during a residential burglary in Windham that occurred between Dec. 24 and Dec. 29, 2020,” Greene County Sheriff Peter J. Kusminsky said in a statement Wednesday

afternoon. A Glock M o d e l 22 pistol owned by the Greene C o u n t y Sheriff’s Office was among the Jose Gofmanas weapons that were allegedly stolen, Kusminsky said. Two other firearms, including a Smith & Wesson Model MP-40 and a Remington 870 shotgun were also taken, along with assorted jewelry and cash,

Kusminsky said. “The weapons were all properly secured within the residence, which had been forcibly entered,” Kusminsky said. Kusminsky would not confirm the name of the homeowner. “It is the policy of this office not to identify victims of crimes,” Kusminsky said. State police Public Information Officer Beau Duffy said the Greene County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the case involving a man identified as Jose C. Gofmanas, 21.

The Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation into an alleged burglary involving the son of a Greene County sheriff’s deputy, Greene County Legislature Chairman Patrick Linger, RNew Baltimore, confirmed Wednesday. The case is being investigated by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. Investigation of a case involving officers’ family members depends on the nature and details of the case, Duffy said. Windham Police Chief Tor Tryland said he did not

have any information about a case involving Gofmanas, or any information about a robbery in Windham involving firearms. Linger said the investigation is ongoing. Gofmanas had previously been arrested in February 2019 in Catskill and charged with second-degree robbery, a class C felony, according to the police blotter in the Register-Star dated Feb. 23, 2019. At the time, Gofmanas lived in Selkirk, according to the police blotter entry.
