NEIL TOOTH

Good afternoon and welcome to todays game against AFC Wulfrinians.

Having no game again last weekend it’s really frustrating as we were keen to build on the momentum gained from picking up four points over the bank holiday weekend. What are the plus sides of having no game is that they gave the lads carrying injuries and niggles an extra week to recover.

Our next two games will give us a benchmark of how good we actually are as I fully expect today’s opponents and Highgate on Tuesday to be in the race for promotion come the end of the season .

Our start has been good and we are full of confidence but we know we can do better and play better with us now having competition nearly every position. I’m hopeful that this will push the lads to be even better. I want to see where that takes us.

ROGER’S RAMBLE

Hiya all,

At the moment all the plaudits are going to the great job our first team management are doing on the football side of the club

Nobody is happier than l am,but l would like to thank our small band of volunteers for all that they do to help Roms, especially on matchdays, I know today's game we will be very short staffed ,but I'm sure all who attend will work that much harder than when everyone is at the game. I can only thank them so much for being so constantly at the games, and also for the work they do during the week, when most people come home from work to relax

GEORGE’S CORNER

Hello and welcome to our latest home game of the 23/24 season.

Our win against Whitchurch Alport was fantastic and I hope that we can continue the momentum this afternoon Collectively, we will do all we can, both on and off the field, to bring everyone affiliated with our great club success this coming season.

We have a fantastic committee here at Romulus and we are lucky to have such great volunteers that make it all possible. So, a big thank you from me to those that have stuck with us along the way and a warm welcome to the new faces that have joined us; namely, Neil Tooth, his coaching and medical staff as well as the new lads wearing red and white stripes.

Without doubt, the work that Neil, Phil, Andy, Royston and Joe have done in such a short space of time is an absolute credit to themselves and the club and we are all looking forward to getting behind the management staff and the lads on the pitch every step of the way.

Exciting times ahead

TRICKIE TALK

A SEASON OF HOPE Review of Romulus Academy 2022/23

Well where do I start with possibly the toughest season so far in Romulus Academies brief history? From an 11-0 drumming in the FA Youth Cup to a respectable 2 all draw away at Redditch United Football Club in postseason only one conclusion can be brought: the group of lads improved under extreme changes which still proves that Romulus Academy still improves football players.

Well some of you may know and for others I also have the pleasure of working with our Academy on a Wednesday and since virtually day one I was given the opportunity to be an assistant manager and with my FA qualifications have been there through the evolution of our development of young players between the age of 16 to 19 yrs which most importantly provides qualifications for young men to progress into football, universities or whatever way they choose to go in life.

Anyway back to last season and after a majority of lads moved on Romulus was left with just one team and the view that they should play at college level rather than alliance or conference standard. The 11 nil drumming by Wolves Casuals made that point pretty clear in the FA Youth Cup to start the campaign on a low. Next up was an away loss to Stafford Rangers against our old manager Andy Turner, which again was a heavy defeat. This was followed up by a slightly better performance in a heavy downpour at Oldbury against Simon Johnston Academy.

TRICKIE TALK

A slight glimmer of hope came in an away win to Solihull Moors, but a change of management was coming and I teamed up with my original mentor as our Chairman Richard Evans once again stepped into the technical area and two victories followed with the highlight being a comfortable victory against Simon Johnston's team who have always been tough to beat even before this last season. The home victory for me at Lindridge Road personally was one of my favourite moments of the season.

With a bleak winter on the horizon and Richard Evans just in a caretaker capacity the uncertainty for these young lads barely out of school must have been hard, but they stuck together and with some more big defeats even with some friendlies thrown in the team showed real character to keep on going.

Eventually an announcement came towards the end of the season which at times felt for me a bit like being at Watford Football Club as the third manger took the helm and Luke Rowe currently plying his trade at Bromsgrove Sporting became the new Head of Romulus Football Academy. An away loss at Solihull Moors Conference side where I witnessed a disciplined approach by the Roms but, wasn't enough to get a result, yet it showed great potential moving forward.

Well come the last game an arranged friendly against Redditch United produced an entertaining 90 minutes of football ending up in a 2 all draw which could have gone either way in the sunshine.

TRICKIE TALK

With most of the recruits staying on and a mix of more talent joining the Roms Academy setup the future once again looks very promising for any young people out there. If you want to join what I feel is an exciting time for Romulus Academy Football Club and are looking for qualifications in sport or better grades please just check out our socials at Romulus Football Club and Education for more information.

Has always UTR & enjoy the game today, Trickie.

Steve's 47k for Speech And Language UK

Everyone at Romulus is proud to support Steve Hermon, who is fundraising for Speech and Language UK.

I have been following Steve`s Son, Eddie`s progress via his dad`s posting`s on Twitter. I have never met either of them but Steve`s strong desire to help his son and Speech and Language UK, caught my interest and admiration. Young Eddie is clearly a lovely and happy young man with a great smile and is a credit to his Mum & Dad.

Club founder, President Emeritus and all round legend, Roger Evans recently stated that “The ethos of this club is to be helpful to as many as possible”, an ethos that I fully subscribe to, and this is one of the many reasons that I love being a part of Romulus Football Club. So, with this in mind, I want to and will do everything I can, to help Steve and Speech and Language UK.

Steve & Eddie’s Story

Our son has a speech disorder associated with Autism. We entered the Speech and Language world when we referred Eddie before his 2nd birthday. Since then, as a family we've been on a journey to try to help him find his voice. That journey continues today.

It's been mentally challenging at times, especially adjusting to being the parent of a child with special needs. Despite that, our son is the happiest boy in the world and the only thing we'd change is for him to be able to communicate more. Being able to speak and communicate with others is a life skill and without that, people can struggle in later life. The key to speech and language development is supporting it at the earliest stage possible and sadly that hasn't always been readily available for Eddie. That doesn't mean we haven't met some amazing, hard working people along the way, from speech therapists in the private and public sector to teachers and teaching assistants but identifying and supporting children with speech development needs isn't easy without funding and extra training.

Steve & Eddie’s Story

Speech and Language UK campaign to decision makers for better support for children and their families. They also designing innovative tools and training for thousands of nursery staff and teachers, as well offer online and in person advice to parents and carers. The charity does great work with the BBC's Tiny Happy People and I've also attended focus groups locally, which have been organised by them with the aim of raising awareness among all sectors working with children, so they can be better equipped to identify speech, language and communication needs and support families.

As I mentioned, finding support for our son has been a mental challenge but I've now decided to do a physical one to raise money for Speech and Language UK. I'll be running 47 kilometres in the space of 42 days in the form of 3 race events. First of all, I'll be doing the Wolverhampton 10k on Sunday 26th March. I will follow it up with my longest distance to date by running the Cathedral to the Castle, which is a 10 mile (16k) multi-terrain event from Lichfield to Tamworth on Sunday 16th April. That distance will be beaten just a few weeks later when the fundraising challenge culminates in my first ever Half Marathon on Sunday 7th May 2023. I'll be running 21k (13.1 miles) in the Great Birmingham Run. This of course isn't including all of the miles I'll be covering in training and bear in mind, I only starting running in May 2022, so for me, this is a HUGE step up but it's a cause close to my heart.

It's Eddie's birthday in May, so it would be amazing to hand over a big sum of money to Speech and Language UK on his birthday, so they can continue to unlock vital support for children to be able to communicate. Any money you can spare to help me get through the challenge would be greatly appreciated!

We give children and young people the skills they need so they aren't left behind, waiting to be understood.

We do this by creating tools for schools and nurseries, giving advice and guidance to families and putting pressure on politicians.

For 1.7 million children in the UK, learning to talk and use words feels like an impossible hurdle. Without the right help, this can destroy their world. They feel disconnected from their family. Unable to make friends. Unfairly punished for not following instructions they don’t understand. What does the future hold for them?

We must help more children , so that every child has the skills to face the future.
