Verdant Nexus

A place for growth and vibrant connections

This project is designed to integrate vertical farming with urban living, creating a symbiotic relationship between residents and their environment. The building’s modular design allows for a dynamic interplay of residential spaces and communal areas, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose. At its core, the project is an exploration of sustainability, with a ground-floor aquaponics system that not only supports the vertical farm but also serves as a tangible connection to the natural world. The resulting produce is destined for the Market located on the ground floor bridging the gap between urban living and the agricultural heart of the city. This project is not just about constructing a building; it’s about cultivating a lifestyle that harmonizes with the rhythms of nature and the needs of the community. It’s a place where innovation meets tradition, and where every element is designed with the well-being of the inhabitants and the planet in mind.

The process began with painting with fruits and vegetable, then turning those paintings into 3D forms and transferring those forms to 3D models in Rhino.

Site Analysis

Overall site massing extruded to 50m

Mass divided into building modules

Building modules randomised and subtracted to create a courtyard.

Program 2. This sunlight provides an idea of where certain plants would grow best based on the available sunlight and the heat that this sunlight would give to the building. With warmer climate plants being more appropiate to the top and cooler climate plants being located towards the bottom.

1. The site presents itself north with a decent amount of morning and early afternoon sun in the summer and winter with low buildings surrounding it.

The final technique used grasshopper to transform the original painting from a 2D image to points on a plane allowing for the creation of voronoi cells, which were extruded to create the 3D cells. The cells were then pushed and pulled to create a more interesting shape.

3.Movement around the site is mostly cars and bicycles with few pedestrians
