This book is about the intersections of science and spirituality. It was initially motivated by my lifelong observation that light plays such an important role in many aspects of science. But the real stimulus to write this book was the repeated number of spiritual learnings and experiences which involve light that I have had in recent years. Because of this, I began to explore the significance of light in both disciplines. The result of this investigation led to the concept of GodLight, the Light of God, that I believe is foundational to both science and spirituality.
Science is the study of the nature and behavior of natural things and the knowledge that we obtain about them. Most readers of this book will likely have a general knowledge of science and how our world works. The fundamental concepts in science are learned during our early education and greatly enhanced by the tremendous amount of information that is available today on the internet and television. We have more scientific knowledge today than any generation that has lived before us. Some of us who call ourselves scientist have more specific knowledge in certain areas of science but, in general, we are all aware of the key concepts in science, such as the Big Bang, the expansion of the universe, galaxies, black holes, our solar system, the planets around our sun, the earth, the evolution on human beings and the biological complexity of men and women. These are the aspects of science that will be discussed in this book.
Spirituality is the belief that there is something greater than ourselves, something more to being human than sensory experience and that the greater whole of which we are a part is cosmic or divine in nature. Most of us believe this and, while not exact, we often equate spirituality to religion. At their core, most religions agree that there is a deity call God and that human beings need to respect and love each other. There are many other specifics that separate the various religions but there are also an amazing number of commonalities. These are the aspects of spirituality that will be discussed in this book.
Each section will look for the intersections and overlap between science and spirituality in a particular area. There is no attempt to conform science to spirituality or vice versa. The focus is to simply examine the intersections to see if they suggest possibilities for a better understanding of each area. If so, these possibilities could lead to opportunities for any of us to be more understanding, more respectful, more collaborative, and more loving. Even though there are still great mysteries remaining to be studied and understood in both science and spirituality, what we now know and believe in each of these areas is more overlapping and connectable than ever before.
As you read each section, ponder the marvels and mysteries of both science and spirituality. Let your mind and your imagination be open to possibilities. In an attempt to categorize and simplify difficult concepts, the words used by each discipline are often the product of reductionism. I urge you to think as holistically as possible in order to get beyond the limitations and compartmentalizations that result from man-made linguistics and descriptions. For centuries, human beings have generally separated these two disciplines and often struggled with the conflicts between science and spiritualitY. Both science and spirituality are enormous subjects so the potential for overlap is high. This book is an invitation to look at the commonalities and confluence of these two areas so that there is more agreement than separation, more harmony than conflict, more understanding than argument. Hopefully, so that the future could be better than the past.

“Smith’s novel is reminiscent in many ways of To Kill A Mockingbird, the great American coming-of-age story that also deals with a young girl’s loss of innocence, violent tragedy, and a controversial trial.”
- US Review of Books
It’s 1941, and the chill of something evil is spreading around the world like the black plague. Suspicion and fear have replaced the trust of innocence of humankind. The news of unheard-of violence and brutality presses heavily on the hearts of mankind. What is tomorrow going to look like? What has happened to the world as we once knew it? World War II begins its escalation, extending its chaos in all directions, including the outer shores of America, Pearl Harbor, and Hawaii. Annie Elizabeth Jordan (known to most as Cricket) can’t make any sense of the turbulence that is swirling around her life.
This thing called war, newspaper headlines that are hidden from her, the heartache, and the fears of loved ones all around her are very disturbing, and no one seems to want to explain it all to her. She is looking forward to her annual visit with her grandparents, who live in the Northwestern United States. This summer will be slightly different from past visits, for she will be traveling on her own because her mom is on travel restriction due to the baby that is to arrive in the early fall.
The death, the murder of one of the children in Cricket’s neighborhood, sends more than a shock wave through the town. Nothing like this has ever happened before. Who could have done such a horrific thing? Who living among them could be so evil? It is beyond explanation to Cricket, but she would soon see her grandfather, a retired lawyer, and judge, untangle this twisted scenario with its many suspects and astonishing conclusion.
among them could be so evil? It is beyond explanation to Cricket, but she

“The writing flows flawlessly, and I had a hard time putting the book down. Even the descriptions of food, scenery and everyday life are so enthralling that they kept me glued to the pages.”
When Janet Ryan boarded the bus wearing the mask recommended by the Weather Channel to filter out toxic chemicals, she had no idea that this would be the last approved monthly visit she would have with her parents. She didn’t think ahead—that kind of thinking encouraged anxiety and hopelessness. She didn’t realize that within the next few days, her life would change dramatically. She would meet new people, break travel laws, and find that there was a free world beyond the borders of Minneapolis Minnesota.
“Sierra would describe the day of the funeral and the drums, and she would remember watching as Old Woman flew with the eagles.”

“The Dark Side of the Gospel: Looking into the Darkness to See the Light” God made both day and night for a reason. If we focus on only the light, we miss half the gospel. And to fully understand the light, we need to fully understand, confront, and—at times—embrace the darkness. The Dark Side of the Gospel: Looking into the Darkness to See the Light traces the “dark side” of the Gospel from its emergence in Genesis to its extinction in Revelation, in its various literal and metaphorical shades—just like it’s presented in the Holy Scriptures.
A pastor and ministry leader since 1967, Dr. Thompson now shares his wisdom and passion for the Gospel through his writing and public speaking engagements.

I wrote this book because it had to be written. I wish I could have bought it in a bookstore, written by a team of historians, 30 years ago.
That has not been done. So relying on some skill at research and writing, I read hundreds of primary sources by Christians and scholarly analyses — something I love doing — to try to identify what is wrong with Christianity. I hope readers find it convincing. Even if not, I think it is a very valuable resource of Christian material from the 1st century to the 21st, with quotes or paraphrases to let Christians themselves explain why they could not tolerate dissent.

Walker Carter’s life was defined by love, courage, and humility despite poverty and racism. In “Walker’s Way,” he shows how imperfect humans can love and respect each other, regardless of race, religion, or status. Despite his success, he remained humble, and demonstrated spiritual leadership, respect, and admiration for others, following Jesus Christ’s example.

Walker Carter’s story is a powerful example of what can be achieved through love, faith, and determination. He was a devoted servant of Jehovah God and Jesus Christ, a wonderful husband, father, brother, friend, and employee, inspiring others with his life.

For Miracles: Prayers of a Catholic Community in Pittsburgh
Portugal to Padua: The Phenomenon of Faith
Through a spiritual awakening initiated by the death of a loved one–and of all things, a missing earring–the author reveals surprising experiences which led her to Saint Anthony of Padua. One of the world’s most beloved religious figures, St. Anthony is invoked on a range of issues, regardless of one’s creed.
Dr. Whalen’s first book focuses on his powerful connection as a “finder,” with dozens of engaging stories–heartbreaking to hilarious–she collected in her Catholic parish just before the COVID pandemic. The result is an inspirational, entertaining book that fosters faith and hope in these uncertain times. The second book illuminates the saint’s remarkable life and writings. Privileged, he chose Franciscan poverty. Traversing four countries of the medieval world, he preached amidst heretical beliefs and scandals, living out gospel values.
Travel with the author to Europe, which still bears Anthony’s footprints. Many photographs document her trail; maps illustrate his journeys. St. Anthony’s writing reveals aspects of his personal life and abiding faith, while intercultural dialogue sparks history to enrich your understanding of this immensely popular saint. A section of all-new, insightful St. Anthony stories chronicles the roll-out of the author’s first book during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.
Author Doretta Lonnett Whalen PHDRon Cruse, an Oklahoma-born entrepreneur who built three successful multi-milliondollar international companies, shares his remarkable adventures and insights on cultural understanding in his book “Lies, Bribes, & Peril.” Having conducted business in over 80 countries and traveled over two million miles worldwide, Cruse learned that an understanding of local culture is crucial to success in the global arena, regardless of the endeavor.
Through his dealings with a diverse cast of characters, including a Sudanese, a Saudi, a Masai guide, a Russian babushka, an Iraqi driver, and a Chinese daoyuo, Cruse developed simple yet profound lessons that were vital to his accomplishments. He learned that culture affects perceptions, actions, thinking, communications, laws, and even danger, creating cultural chasms that can turn the most ordinary events bizarre.
“Cruse’s account of his experiences and discoveries after years of leading his international businesses.” - Kirkus
The guidance of these uncomplicated yet astute lessons was critical to overcoming the extraordinary challenges that Cruse faced in the global arena, such as actual and perceived lies, bribes, and peril. Cruse’s ethical compass, instilled in him by his educational psychologist father, guided him in building his successful businesses. His first company, Matrix, was recognized in 1991 by INC magazine as the 81st fastest-growing private company in the United States.
In 1992, Cruse entered Russia and organized one of the very first US-Russian Joint Venture Companies. His company became immersed in every major U.S. Government activity in the New Republics, dealing with practically every top-secret installation of the Former Soviet Union. The high-profile business foothold in the new republics led to the acquisition of Matrix, which was approaching annual revenues of $100 million, by an investment group led by the former Secretary of the Treasury, William Simon.
“Reflecting on the legal wrangling surrounding the sale of my company, I realized just how much my cadre of lessons had assisted me—even in a domestic business environment.”
In 2001, Cruse founded his third entrepreneurial venture, Logenix International, Inc., which has assisted in the rebuilding of Afghanistan, and the reconstruction of Iraq, and is an integral facilitator supporting health and humanitarian assistance efforts across Africa and Asia. Logenix manages tens of billions of doses of medicines each year to and throughout the developing world—more than any competitor in the industry.
“Chronicles of international business narrated with enthusiasm, understanding, and reflection”- Kirkus
Cruse’s book “Lies, Bribes, & Peril” has been widely acclaimed and has been used in dozens of U.S. universities for graduate and undergraduate studies. His career journey and the realization that the practical training necessary to navigate the real world of international commerce was not to be found in any college curriculum is the inspiration behind the book.

“Rebecca’s Soliloquy: A True Story” by Roberta Nee Adams is a heartwarming and inspiring book that tells the remarkable story of Rebecca Moffatt, a woman who travels over 250 miles during the Civil War to find her imprisoned Confederate officer husband. Accompanied by former slaves, an old horse, and a two-wheeled dogcart, Rebecca faces numerous obstacles along the way, but her determination and love for her husband keep her going.
The book is based on a true story passed down through generations of Rebecca’s family and provides a rare glimpse into the lives of ordinary people during the Civil War. It is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of love to overcome even the most challenging of circumstances.
The narrative style of the book, which is told through letters and diary entries, offers an intimate look into the lives of the characters and their experiences during the Civil War. The author expertly captures the emotions and struggles of her characters and weaves together historical facts and personal narratives to create a story that is both informative and captivating.
“Rebecca’s Soliloquy” has received positive reviews for its ability to evoke strong emotions in readers and its tearjerker ending. Whether you are a history enthusiast or simply looking for a captivating story, “Rebecca’s Soliloquy” is a must-read that provides a unique perspective on the Civil War.
I grew up in Tullahoma, Tennessee, a small town in south-central Tennessee. We lived on the outskirts of town and spent uncounted days roaming the woods and countryside. At the foot of the small hill on top of which we lived, there were earthen bunkers. My brothers found a number of Minié balls there. During the Civil War, there were both southern and northern troops in our area. Finding war and Indian artifacts was not unusual. We even found arrowheads in our own yard.
I have always related closely to 19th-century times. Even as a young child, I used to say that I was born 100 years too late. In elementary school, I read books about pioneers and explorers. I read all of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books, and later in my adult years found that she was an ancestor!
My late mother-in-law Alma Nell Moffatt Rynearson told me Rebecca’s story. Rebecca and Augustus were her paternal grandparents. She was quite the family historian and told me many of her family stories, including stories of some of her family who came from North Carolina to Tennessee with one of Daniel Boone’s parties.
The story of the bonnet box is another true story about Luther Moffatt, who was a cousin to Augustus and Charles Moffatt. The bonnet box was handed down through the generations to Alma and is now in my possession.
Hearing Rebecca’s story I was captivated. I tried to imagine taking on such a journey under the same conditions they faced at the time. It was almost unimaginable. But Rebecca, Joseph, and Belle did indeed make the journey. I knew when I heard it that I would write the story eventually. My goal in writing the book was to do Rebecca’s story justice. I hope I have.
In researching the book I found that in the 1860 census, Augustus had no slaves. Alma referred to two former slaves who accompanied Rebecca on her journey. As the Moffatt farm was over 300 acres, there had to help to manage the farm prior to the war. I can only guess
that Augustus had freed any slaves by 1860 and had another arrangement with workers who remained, perhaps as tenant farmers.
To judge the trip I went into the Library of Congress and found a map of the Mississippi River that was made in 1864. I printed out 82 4”x4” squares and pieced them together like a puzzle. I then taped it to a door so that I could judge how far they may have traveled, what towns they would have passed through, and how long the journey would likely have taken.
I visited Troy, Tennessee in Obion County, and went to the Troy Cemetery where I found the Moffatt family plot. There I saw Augustus’ and Rebecca’s headstones. I will make a confession here. Her name was not Rebecca. It was Jane Lathan Moffatt. I changed it for my own reasons. I met one of Charles’ greatgrandsons who gave me some pictures of his greatgrandfather and his home in Troy. It was a beautiful two-story antebellum house and is, sadly, no longer there. There is, however, a Moffatt Street in Troy.
Writing Rebecca’s Soliloquy was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. Though I have written for years, it has mostly been poems, songs, and short stories. This is my first book. I am currently working on my second. I do hope Rebecca’s story will find its audience and live on as it deserves. Then I will consider it a success.
Enjoy!
Only the best,
Roberta Nee AdamsEaster: McEaster Valley is written in such a way that I’m hoping that parents and teachers will read a topic (how a dog responds to things that interest them, what a loving functional family is like different ways Easter can be celebrated, why the earth gets warmer as you go deeper, radiation, how genetics can change eggs, etc., disease prevention and cures using doctors and the Center for Disease Control, using nature to take care of needs—make toys, candy, and goodies; preserve food; using the energy from the sun and where the rainbow gets its color, what it means to have lost a loved one or your children leave home, getting older makes one be less capable to do the things they did in their youth, and most importantly—if you can’t do things you used to enjoy, you can still always have a dream) and share their experiences with the child or study it in more depth.
Thoughts on my Thoughts I is intended to increase the understanding of how intricate and finetuned nature is and the experiences I went through which helped me desire to become a veterinarian. Also, things that sidestepped my progress along the way.
Thoughts on my Thoughts II reveals more about who I really am. I will notice something odd or different about a discovery or event that interests me. My mind will ask the questions of what, why, or how and I will often find myself at 3:00 in the morning wide awake thinking about the subject. Soon, I’ll be up googling or going through books I have at home to learn more about the subject. I find my frame of mind to be much like my experiences years ago doing research toward my master’s degree. If it’s something unusual about how nature works, is surprising and of interest, I have the desire to share the exciting news with others and how it may play a part in our lives. I write down these findings and am usually surprised at how much these subjects have influenced my life; if they do, I share them with the reader. Walter R. Hoge received his master’s degree and a doctorate in veterinary medicine from Purdue University before practicing small animal veterinary medicine. He has practiced at Camden Pet Hospital for the last fortyfive years. He has been published in several scientific journals and has written a book called Easter: McEaster Valley. He is a proud father to five grown children and 17 grandchildren in San Jose, California.
“Hoge has a pleasing way of ping-ponging from the general to the specific and back again a good sign of a lively writer with an inquiring mind and the ability to engage readers.”

“I love the “The Sense God Gave a Goose Series”. They teach valuable lessons and character traits.”
Jean Davis is a retired nurse manager, pastor’s wife, and storyteller who aims to help others lead joyful, meaningful, and faithful lives. She was inspired by a sermon on the healthy and happy community living of geese and wrote a series of illustrated children’s books based on it. The books feature various little geese characters with unique personalities, strengths, attitudes, and problems.
Dad said, “I will always be proud of you! Not because you are strong or the best flyer, but because you are my daughter. That makes you special.”
They learn important life lessons from other geese like forgiveness, friendship, and dealing with loss and bullying. The geese also receive comfort and support by praying with each other. The stories reflect the struggles children face in life and how faith and community help them overcome these challenges. By promoting positive attitudes, kindness, and compassion, Jean encourages children to embrace the power of faith and community to live fulfilling lives.
These stories reflect some of the struggles our children have in life, and how, with faith and community, we overcome them.
Author Jean DavisThe book was written to share God’s love and teachings.
Many of us wish we have a closer relationship with Jesus. To hear him, learn from him, and share moments of joy with him. We go to church, pray, and hope our prayers will be answered. What we need to do is open our hearts and minds to listen, meditate, and be still to hear his voice.
This book is some of the author’s intimate encounters with Jesus that share his teachings, wisdom, love, compassion, and understanding with us.
We all can hear his voice and develop a deeper relationship with him if we are open to it.

The Southern California metropolis of Los Angeles is renowned for its diversity of experiences, from its sun-kissed beaches to the star power of Hollywood. Visitors to Los Angeles who look beyond the flashing lights of Hollywood discover a city that is becoming increasingly diverse, one that offers a dizzying variety of cuisines and historic architectural landmarks.
The City of Angels never fails to make an impression—or steal the show—whether you’re lured to the beach, adjacent amusement parks, or celebrity-spotting chances in Beverly Hills. With this, here are the top things to visit in Los Angeles.
The famed Hollywood Sign, one of Los Angeles’ most iconic symbols, stands atop Mt. Lee in the Hollywood Hills, overlooking the city of Los Angeles and the California film industry it has come to represent. This LA icon initially appeared on its hilltop perch in 1923 as a promotional stunt for the Hollywoodland housing complex. Each letter is composed of sheet metal coated white and measures 50 feet (15 meters) tall.
Venice Beach, a bustling, upmarket outpost of Los Angeles noted for its free-spirited feel, is fronted by the famous Venice Boardwalk, also known as the Ocean Front Walk. Meetings with sunseekers on roller skates, fortune tellers, and pickup basketball teams are a given— especially on sweltering summer days in Southern California. Beyond the sand, explore the skate park, the well-known Muscle Beach outdoor gym, and Abbot Kinney Boulevard.
Universal Studios Hollywood, one of the oldest continually running film studios in the world, offers a fun selection of thrill coasters, live-action shows, and a tram ride. The enormous theme park in California successfully combines behindthe-scenes filmmaking presentations with performances and attractions.
Take a hop-on, hop-off bus excursion to Santa Monica Beach and stroll to the end of the pier to witness the expansive arc of Santa Monica Bay, stretching from Malibu to Palos Verdes. At Santa Monica Beach, miles of sand host playgrounds, parks, picnic areas, staffed lifeguard stations, the original Muscle Beach, and the boardwalk to the Santa Monica Pier.
Most LA and Hollywood tours, whether taken on foot, by car, minivan, or bus, make stops along the Walk of Fame while narrating the history and sensational insider information of the movie business. The Hollywood Walk of Fame, which spans 18 city blocks and is covered with more than 2,600 metal stars, has multiple monuments with the names of famous people.
LA is truly one of those love-it-or-hate-it destinations. With Los Angeles having so much to offer, for sure, there are so many things to do in LA that you’ll never get bored. Weekends in Los Angeles are undoubtedly enough to see everything, but with the help of this LA itinerary, you may squeeze in as much as you can!
