CONCEPTUAL NOTE ON

SHARED MOBILITY

Summary This project was designed in clear convergence with the policies of the European Union, which aims to raise public awareness of the of the negative consequences of the irrational use of vehicles as for the public health, the environment and the economy, and the benefits of using more sustainable means of transportation.

Considering that the European Commission is committed to clean, shared and intelligent mobility, with the motto “Sharing takes you further!�, the objective of this project proposal is to achieve a more effective way of collective transport and is based on the principles promulgated by the European Union, providing a solution based on clean shared mobility, supporting new intelligent transport technologies and in line with four priority areas: innovation, new technologies, decarbonisation and community.

What is it?

The establishment of a social network based on solidarity and capable of improving the mobility of people.

What is it based on?

Promoting connection between people requesting mobility with people offering space in their means of transport.

How is it done?

Through an app. That allows immediate contact between offerors and mobility requesters.

By creating a social network. With the support of a campaign to raise awareness of the community to put a critical mass of people together.

Connecting people. Users register their transfers in the app which establishes the connection between them and provides a solution to the mobility needs. Once the connection is established, the contact will be made in the pre-established places (the app chooses the most appropriate place).

Basic principles An innovative idea based on the solidarity of the community without profit or commercial exchange that allows to reduce costs of transporting people and improve the public health of the population. This new way of relating people implies substantial changes in behaviour, which allows to move away from the current individual behaviours, triggering new dynamics of social cohesion still to be explored.

Sharing mobility necessarily implies a positive environmental impact and necessarily reduces the carbon footprint, responding to the priorities of people and the planet. By starting this experience in any precise location can serve as an experience to subsequently scale up the initiative globally.

Expected results 1. To improve the mobility of people covered by the project.

2. To decongest traffic and facilitate displacements more quickly, more adjusted to the needs of the people and at a lower cost as well as increase parking spaces.

3. To strengthen social cohesion and generate new positive dynamics of citizen behaviour.

The main objective of this conceptual note is to present a proposal for community mobility based on principles of innovative solidarity that can respond to a large part of the mobility problems existing in the planet.

1 Strategy description: Communal solidary transport What is it?

Communal solidary transport is a model of social intervention that aims to improve the mobility of people within a community, based on solidarity and spontaneity.

What is it based on?

This proposal is based on connecting people seeking means of transport and displacement and people offering spaces in their vehicles.

How is it done?

Communication campaign. It will achieve community awareness and convey the necessary information and knowledge to identify a sufficient number of people interested in constituting the community of participants (social network).

Development of an app. It allows the establishment of immediate contact between those who offer and those who request transportation. To do this, offerors and requesters must be previously registered in the application.

Establishing a community of users. In order to do this, it is necessary to establish a network between applicants and offerors.

Geographic connection. Offerors and requesters will register their routes in the application and through a simple interface, seekers will request to offerors for transportation.

Physical contact. Once the contact is established through the application, the physical contact will be made in the pre-established places. The application will propose the most suitable intersection.

Ethical code. During the time that physical contact lasts, the behaviour will be ruled by an established ethical code.

2 Basic principles of the mobility project 

Based on solidarity

Solidarity is the main axe of this project.



Non-profit

Non-commercial interest is one of the main charasteristics of the project and complements the principle of solidarity.



Capable to reduce costs

First of all, the non-profit principle will allow all savings in individual economies and secondly in the global community with a macro-economic impact.



Triggering positive changes in social Getting a community to share transport, implies a substantial change of behavior in nopwaday´s society, which is behaviour characterized by growing individualism.



High community participation

The engagement of community members as main actors transforms them into owners of the strategy and facilitates the consolidation of the project.



Stimulating social cohesion

To get people belonging to a community to agree on something that will result in a common benefit may have as a result an encouragement of social cohesion and community cohabitation, reinforcing the ties between people.



Responsible with the environment

into the environment and a reduction in the carbon footprint of people and community participants. 

Based on new technologies

The operational management of the strategy is carried out through a mobile application that represents a popular execution model.



With exponential projection

The potential individual and community impact allows for a progressive scaling up of the project at local as well as global level.

4 The user community There are two modalities of being users, but a person can participate in the two modalities: 1. Offerors. Those people who use a means of transportation and who wish to share the empty spaces available with the applicants. Although there will be no payment for the provided services, forms of compensation and stimulus could be considered: a) voluntary participation in travel expenses, b) free parking in public or private parking lots, tax exemption from circulation taxes, etc.

2. Requesters. Those people who normally use public/ private transportation or walk, people who travel in a different way and capable to engage in this strategy as an opportunity to take their journeys differently.

5 Security Security should not pose a threat to the shared mobility strategy and for this, there are two main arguments: 1. We live in safe cities and regions and the project aims to change present dynamics.

2. The application allows the management of a record for all transport transactions that have been carried out.

3. In the modalities outside the application it will be recommended to carry out alternative security measures.

4. In any case, this mobility improvement strategy pursues a change in behavior and aims to achieve social cohesion which, as an expected result of better community coexistence, could result in an improvement of security.

5. In no case should security be considered as a con, since in any case the potential security hit by this strategy will be less than commercial strategies.

6 Execution modalities 1. The request a) Transport offerors and requesters publish their transportation circumstances in the application that are immediately visible to all registered members. b) Applicants identify in the interface the options that best fit their needs for transport. c) Applicants request the transport of the offerors through the application. d) Offerors accept transportation in the application. e) The application indicates the best meeting point and the predicted time for the encounter, which will be done physically with the support of a pre-defined symbology of the project.

2. Direct visual contact Established by using signs which characterise the project as well as facilitate the visual contact and identification between offerors and requesters. a) The vehicles of the bidders will be able to display a symbol or mark that allows the seekers to identify them easily. b) Requesters may be carriers of any visible sign (hat, pin, card, etc.) that may be displayed and serve as identification of the applicants. c) Thus, there is the possibility of establishing solidary transport exchanges without the need of using the application but based on the visual contact established between requesters and offerors.

3. Private inter-personal agreements Relationships may be established among users and allows permanent and regular solidary contacts between users of the same route with common schedules.
