MONZAMILANO/TT BSELYR
A TT AS THE FINAL STAGE OF A GRAND TOUR
This is a microfibre polyester made as light and soft as possible. Its hydrophilic outer layer wicks moisture off the skin to the jersey yet doesn’t absorb moisture along the way. The design references the final stage of the 2017 Giro d’Italia, an individual time trial starting at the iconic Autodromo Nazionale Monza, built in 1922 and the third purposebuilt motor racing circuit in the world.
A TT as the final stage of a Grand Tour is not enjoyable — never has been, never will be. Unless you win it and then it’s a euphoric day. That’s what happened to me on the final stage into Milan in the 2011 Giro. We started in some nondescript industrial estate that day but the 2017 Giro sees a much more iconic start at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza. Built in 1922, it was the third purpose-built motor racing circuit in the world. We pay homage to this by creating a design depicting the Monza start line, which is arguably more important to the vast majority of the peloton on the last day than the finish line, because simply still being in the race on that last day of a GT is a massive achievement in itself.

MONZAMILANO/TT SOCKS These socks are not normal socks. I knew that from the moment I wore them for the first time many years ago. Back then they were a promotional gift from a sponsor, yet they outperformed any sock I’d previously worn, so when it came to producing Chpt./// socks we began a hunt to find out more about them. This is the result. The footbed is made with a ceramic thread that not only increases strength but also decreases heat buildup. The main body of the sock is a microfibre nylon base using Meryl® Skinlife, a fabric technology that is one of the most advanced mixes of intelligent polyamide yarns. Its composition offers a permanent antimicrobial effect that reduces unpleasant odours in your garments, allowing you to exercise hard and stay feeling fresh.

MONZAMILANO/TT SS JERSEY
This jersey has a more classically inspired cut than the superaero race design more often used these days. It is designed to be a staple jersey, one that is comfortable and wearable in all conditions and situations. It is made of a cross-dyed polyester that creates a natural hand while keeping you dry. It uses the same waistband design as the most aero of Castelli race jerseys, only with a reflective strip on the rear hem. We relaxed the cut of the sleeve a little and accentuated the shoulder line. The full-length zip is slightly heavier than the one used in the 1.21 jersey, giving it a more industrial, solid feel.

A DEFIANT GESTURE
These shorts are designed to be worn with all the other items in our ‘Defiant’ collection. The collection is inspired by iconic races, such as Paris-Roubaix and the Giro d’Italia, with a backstory referencing the hardship and sacrifice involved in professional racing. These shorts feature a bi-elastic fabric manufactured using a polyamide yarn made of 100% recycled material. The fabric is a 190 g/m2 weight with 35% Lycra® XTRA LIFE™ content. The shorts are constructed in a multipanel fashion, unlike the flagship 1.11 shorts, which use a more expensive “body paint” construction method that involves high wastage in the manufacturing process.

DEFIANT SHORTS
In other words, this construction method allows us to create a short that uses the highest quality of fabric but at a slightly lower price point than the 1.11. This is also the reason we used a bib thata is identical to the type of bib used in racing, the only difference being that it has a pattern printed on it in order to provide an internal reveal of colour and pattern in contrast to the subdued exterior, much like a Savile Row suit.

FORBICI S/S JERSEY
Like many of our products, the FORBICI was designed with a clear purpose, and that was to make a lightweight summer jersey – something for those swelteringly hot days. The fabric is inspired by the original Climber’s Jersey; our 1.81 Base Layer uses this fabric, but in order to build a whole jersey we have chosen a slightly heavier version (145g/m vs. 75g/m). The fabric is made mainly with bulked continuous filament (BCF) polyester yarns, giving it a soft hand and excellent wicking. When it came to naming this piece, we harked back to the old days when we raced in short-zip heavy jerseys in ALL seasons, and for the scorcher days we would bring out the scissors and cut the sleeves and hack holes in an attempt to increase airflow. The SCISSOR Jersey isn’t a very good name, but translate it into Italian and it’s perfect. The FORBICI Jersey is our modern solution to an age-old problem – and you won’t need the scissors anymore.
