DESIGN CHARGE FROM THE ORIGINAL COMPETITION BRIEF (Re)Stitch Tampa is an international ideas competition for the city of Tampa. The competition calls for innovative design ideas, which employ connective urban landscapes and ecological infrastructure as an underlying urban design framework. This urban framework can act as a catalyst for the economic redevelopment for Tampa, while physically reconnecting a currently disparate and fragmented city and community. (Re)Stitch Tampa calls for design ideas, which reconsider infrastructure and how it might be a transformative urban design agent as the underlying connective tissue and network which (re) stitches the city to its river, and brings the river into the city. DESIGN CHANGE The Obama Administration’s announcement, in the beginning of 2010, of 1.25 billion dollars of federal monies earmarked for a High-speed rail connection between Orlando and Tampa, to be the first high speed train in the United States, was a catalyst for the re-thinking of a large-scale infrastructural re-designing for the city.
