ACPS’ Learning Through the TV Handbook Welcome! Use this handbook as your step-by-step guide to produce your 30 minute program for telecast on ACPS-TV as one of our ACPS-at-Home learning resources.

Read through this handbook to familiarize yourself with how to best translate the presentation that you’d give to your students in a classroom into a distance-learning tool that will engage your students and bring ACPS into their homes.

What you need: Your ACPS Laptop that has a built-in video camera (Make sure it is plugged in and fully charged) Checklist •

Check to see that the books you plan to read aloud have copyright clearance for TV publishers listed below), or check with Candace Pannell, candace.pannell@acps.k12.va.us, if you’re unsure.

Do you have all your props?

•

Do you know how to share your screen?

•

Check to be sure that your re-aloud book is uploaded and available to share via your screen.

•

Just like the story you will be reading, make sure that your presentation has a beginning, middle, and end. Imagine that you’re presenting to your students.

Start with a greeting, and make sure to let your viewers know when you’re

done.

Tips for good video •

DO face your computer so the microphone can pick up your voice.

•

DO look for nice lighting. Face a window or turn on a lamp. Avoid sitting with your back to a window or other light source so you're not backlit.

•

DO look at the camera when presenting.

•

DO keep a clutter free background.

•

DO dress for the task at hand.

•

DO silence your phone during recording.

•

DO ensure others in your household refrain from downloading large files or streaming while you record.

•

DO remember that sound will echo if there aren’t soft furnishings. The living room will sound much better than the garage or bathroom!

•

DO prepare. Know your topic. Rehearse your key talking points.

•

DO relax and be yourself.

•

DO smile and have fun with this!

EASY PEASY INSTRUCTIONS TO GETTING YOURSELF ON-AIR 1. RECORD YOUR VIDEO USING WEVIDEO (Take a look at the tutorial videos produced by WeVideo if you aren’t already familiar with the platform. They’re short and easy to follow and give you a couple of options like screen recording and simultaneous screen recording).

2. UPLOAD your video to GOOGLE DRIVE. 3. Once uploaded to Google Drive, select “ADVANCED SHARING OPTIONS”, and choose the option to “SHARE WITH ANYONE WITH THE LINK.” 4. NOTIFY Candace Pannell, candace.pannell@acps.k12.va.us that you have your completed video ready for review.

5. You’re all done! Pat yourself on the back. You just shared a lesson with our ACPS students!
