FOREWORD

Die kubanische Musik formte sich als eine interessante Mischung aus verschiedenen Kulturen. Die wichtigsten Wurzeln waren die europäischen (vor allem die spanischen) Traditionen, die mit den Einwanderern auf die Insel kamen. Unter den Einflüssen der impulsiven afrikanischen Rhythmen entstand ein unverwechselbarer afrokubanischer Stil.

Cuban music took shape as an engaging blend of different cultures. Though rooted in European traditions (especially from Spain) that arrived on the island with its settlers, the inclusion of impulsive African rhythms ultimately formed an unmistakable Afro-Cuban style.

Diese Ausgabe enthält Musik der bekanntesten Genres, wie der Son Cubano, Guajira, Danzón, Salsa und Contradanza cubana (auch bekannt als Habanera). Alle Stücke wurden für die Schüler mit ca. 3 Jahren Unterrichtserfahrung leicht bearbeitet und sind für alle angehenden Gitarristen gut spielbar. Jeder Komposition geht ein Text voraus: Hier gibt es allerlei Wissenswertes über Musik, Infos zu den Komponisten, Übungstipps und noch vieles mehr. Das Heft enthält sowohl eine traditionelle Notation mit ausreichenden Angaben zu Fingersätzen, als auch eine Tabulatur. Die beiliegende CD, ein Mini-Lexikon und kostenlose MP3-Downloads ergänzen das Heft. Und wenn ihr noch Fragen habt, auf YouTube gibt es einige Tutorials, die das Erlernen der hier vorgestellten Kompositionen erleichtern. Ich wünsche euch viel Spaß und Erfolg!

This book includes music from the most famous genres, such as the Son Cubano, Guajira, Danzón, Salsa, and Contradanza Cubano (which is also known as Habanera). All the pieces are arranged for students with about three years of playing experience, and should be very playable for all developing guitarists. Each composition includes an intro text with useful information about the music, information about the composer, practice tips, and more. This book includes standard notation with indications for fingering, as well as tablature. It is completed with an audio CD and a reference section and free MP3 downloads. Ein wichtiger kubanischer Musikstil ist „Son Cubano“ (oder einfach „Son“). Er entstand als eine Mischung der europäischen Tanzmerkmale und der afrokubanischen Rhythmen. Der Son war die Grundlage für spätere kubanische Stile wie Cha-cha-cha oder Salsa (s. Seite 14). „Son de la Má Teodora“ gilt als erstes überliefertes Stück dieses Genres. Man vermutet, dass es schon um 1580 gespielt wurde. Wahrscheinlich wurde es aber erst im 19. Jahrhundert in Santiago de Cuba komponiert. In diesem wichtigen kulturellen Zentrum Kubas beginnt auch „der Siegeszug“ des Sons.

“Son Cubano” (or simply “Son”) is an important Cuban music style that emerged as a mixture of European dance forms and Afro-Cuban rhythms. Son provided the foundation for later Cuban styles, such as Cha-cha-cha or Salsa (see page 14). “Son de la Má Teodora” is considered to be the first piece of this genre that was handed down. It is sometimes assumed that it may have been played as early as 1580, but it’s more likely that it wasn’t written until the 19th century, in Santiago de Cuba. It was also in this important cultural center that the Son would rise to popularity.

Achtet darauf, dass die beiden tiefsten Saiten jeweils um einen ganzen Ton nach unten gestimmt werden. Dadurch wird es leichter, unter Einbezug der leeren Basssaiten in der angegebenen Tonart G-Dur zu spielen.
