Acorn-Sky Dairy Goats
Greetings to all of our dairy goat friends! We decided to start a nice catalog this year for your ease of viewing. Our herd is located in the Flint Hills near the teany tiny town of Climax, KS. Climax is settled halfway between Eureka, KS and Severy, KS on Hwy 99. We currently raise primarily French Alpines with Sables, Nigerians, Lamanchas, and Experimentals in smaller numbers. Our herd is registered through theAmerican Dairy GoatAssociation. We are a performance herd focusing on milk testing and showing with Linear Appraisal as we are able. All of our herdsires are DNA typed and are also parent verified when we are able. We also try to provide Alpha S-1 Casein typing for our herdsires.
Our herd has been CAE, CL, and Johnes negative. With our previously disease free results, we are moving forward with annual CAE testing only. If our buyers would like further testing on age appropriate animals, we are more than happy to do so at the buyer’s expense. Kansas is a Brucellosis free state.All kids are raise on fresh raw pooled milk from our herd. Each kid receives adequate amounts of raw colostrum from our disease free herd.

Whimsy is one of our aging foundation does.As a yearling, Whimsy freshened with a mass in her mammary hindering her showing, linear appraisal, and production. Despite this, she is correct in many areas and has proven herself to be a strong brood doe by producing many successful daughters and granddaughters across the country. Currently, she has one permanent CH EX90 VEVE daughter and several others with milking & dry legs. Her ‘23 daughter in our herd was 2nd Place Intermediate Kid at the ‘23 Kansas State Fair. Whimsy scored (37) Rump Width and (30) Strength as a 6 year old. She has thrown her type to her progeny with a lot of bone, size, strength, and length of body. She has been bred to PatteranA-Z N-Jing.

Wiggles is a long bodied doe with quite a bit of bone to her. Her type is definitely taking after her dam Whimsy. Wiggles was 2nd Place Intermediate Kid at the ‘23 Kansas State Fair out of a nice class of young does. She freshened as a yearling with early triplets and struggled at the beginning of her lactation with ketosis. Because of her early struggles, her production didn’t get the start it really needed to and she lacked a lot of udder compacity. With a normal freshening next year, we hope to get her out into the show ring once again. She has an eye catching look from across the pen. She has been bred to Acorn-Sky LFH Hydro-Freeze.

Joslyn is another doe that I would consider a foundation. Before we had the opportunity to bring her in, we had used her son King Kyle and loved his kids. Now she resides here permanently. Joslyn is our highest producing doe at this time, milking a little over a gallon and a half in her peak. She completed her lactation in ‘23 by milking 2403lb after having a single doeling. In ‘24, she freshened with triplets and is milking much stronger. Joslyn is a long and level doe who is strong on her feet and legs into her later years. Her productive mammary is well attached, has wonderful texture, and bigger teat orfices for easy hand milking. Joslyn’s stylish ‘23 daughter was 2nd Place Junior Kid at the ‘23 Kansas State Fair. Joslyn was bred to PatteranA-Z N-Jing.

Honey is a lovely young doe with a lot of style. She is long bodied with a lot of overall general appearance, and femininity. She was our 2nd Place Junior Kid at the ‘23 Kansas State Fair behind the Reserve Champion JR in a competitive class! She freshened 2 weeks ahead of her due date with not a lot of milk as a young yearling. She came up in her milk pretty well considering and is one of our favorite yearling milkers! Her udder is snuggly attached and is easy to milk. I can’t wait to see her with another freshening as a 2 year old.
She has been bred this year to Trip Tales JB Metallic Master. Honey ended up aborting 11/26. TBD if we will rebreed for 2025 kids.

Hazard is similar in type to her maternal sister Honey, but with more bone and a bit more depth to her body. She has a strong front end assembly and stands on correct feet and legs. Hazard is out of anAI sire named CH Pleasant-Grove Flash Freeze. Flash Freeze has had a few young daughters with success in the show ring. Kisses is a productive first freshener. She has out produced all of my other first fresheners by quite a bit. Her rear udder arch and height is what I had hoped for and her fore udder is very smooth. I wish she had more width between her hocks as she walks around her udder as well as her orfices being a little more open for easier hand milking. We’ll see what another freshening looks like on her and hopefully she’ll give me a nice doeling to retain.

Flame is a young doe who had a lot of the right pieces this year as a first freshener. I really admire her front end assembly and her ease of milking. Frosty was supposed to be my JRAlpine kid to show this year, but alas she was born at the tail end of March. Being the youngest in her class, she was always working hard to compete with the older does and her standout herdmate Maylou. She has a ton of maturing to do, but this kid is exciting to see in my keeper pen everyday. She will be left dry for 2025.

Snips is a doe who makes me smile everyday at milking time. She is productive, even tempered, keeps her condition very well, and has one of the best udders in my herd currently. Her udder is easy to milk and very well attached. I can’t wait to see her daughter freshen for us. Snips was supposed to be part of my main showing string, but she was horribly attacked by a dog 2 weeks before her first freshening. She couldn’t stand until after she kidded several weeks later. Because of this, she has a lot of nerve damage and weaker ligaments. She did come in 4th place at the ‘24 KS State Fair and was 3rd Place Dam/Daughter with Sorbet. Even though she isn’t part of my main show string, she is happy just coming into the milk room everyday.

Twilight was a fancy kid last year placing 3rd in a large class at the KS State Fair behind her sister. I wanted to take her out this year, but she was very immature and awkward this year as a first freshening yearling. She did hit one Spring show in milk and placed 2X 2nd milking yearling. I imagine she will bloom over the next few years as her paternal sisters have.The mammary potential from both her dam’s side and sire’s side is something worth waiting a few freshenings for. Maylou is a doeling we purchased this year unexpectedly when her breeder posted "wet kid” deal. I'm so happy we jumped on adding this girl! She's been a shining star in our JR show string, being completely undefeated in her competitive March Kid classes during the spring club shows. She showed in 6 rings, with 6 1st place wins, and 2 Reserve Champion wins behind does who had already won dry legs!At the KS State Fair, she placed 3rd in her class. Maylou is definitely one I’m excited to show as a dry yearling next year! Dry for 2025.

Our sweet Bubbles came to us from a sable herd dispersal up in Wisconsin.There are a lot of things I really like about this young doe. She has very pliable dairy skin and a nice front end. She did freshen with mastitis as a yearling before she came here.This left her with a lopsided udder and will likely hinder her showing career. We dried her up pretty early in her lactation to give her time to adjust to our herd. I’m looking forward to seeing another freshening with Bubbles! She has been bred to Jen-Mae-Ka Kids Out of Excuses.

Midnight is a lovely long bodied doe with a nice flat rump. She is very dairy and feminine as a dry yearling. Knowing how her dam and grand dams look gets a person excited to get this girl milking and into the show ring next year. Midnight has the best personality and is easy for our 7yr old to handle and show. She showed her at the KS State fair and won 3rd place dry yearling! She has been bred to Kastdemur’s Mr. Varner.

Reservation & Sales Policy
● Every year we start taking deposits during breeding season for kids to be born the following Spring. If you are interested in purchasing one of our goat kids, please contact us early! Pre-kidding deposits are $100 towards the kid's price, with the rest due at time of pick up. Reservations are not official until a deposit has been received. Deposits are NOT refundable unless the kid you reserve wasn't born or is unavailable for purchase. No deposits will be refunded based on color or being polled as a preference! Our breeds are not color restricted. If you would like specifically colored or specifically polled kids, I would not recommend placing a deposit. If your kid reservation preference (gender/breeding) isn't born or is not available, we would be more than happy to move your deposit to another breeding, available kid, or roll your deposit over to the next year's breeding reservations. If you choose not to move your deposit, we will refund it to you in a timely manner.
● We have the right to retain any kids born here for our own herd improvement.
● We will not sell just any buckling intact nor do we hang on to extra intact bucklings we wouldn’t be willing to use in the fall for more than a few weeks. If you would like a buckling, I would highly recommend reserving before they are 4 weeks old. If you would like a buckling from a dam that says "Wethers Only" on the breeding schedule, please message us to discuss your herd goals and what you are looking for.
● We have the right to decline sale to anyone without explanation at any point in time. If there is a deposit down on a kid(s) and we change our mind about selling, the deposit(s) will be refunded.
● Due dates are given to the best of our knowledge, but are not exact kidding dates.
● Every kid born here is bottle raised from day one. Because we bottle raise, kids with deposits holding them need to be picked up by 4 weeks old to help lighten our work load unless previous arrangements have been made.Additional time is subject to daily boarding fees. Deposits will be forfeited after failure to pick up kids by 6 weeks old unless previous arrangements were made. At that point, the kid will be posted back for sale on our website and Facebook page Communication is key as we try to work with people figuring out transport. We are happy to transport kids ourselves on any trip we have planned, just ask and we’ll see what we can work out!
● All goat kids will be given adequate colostrum at the time of birth to ensure the best start possible. Our does have all been vaccinated with a CDT vaccine between 4-8 weeks prior to kidding so they are able to build antibodies for their kids in their colostrum. Our herd has a history of being CAE, CL, and Johnes negative annually. We only CAE test annually now, but would be happy to disease test age appropriate animals at the buyer’s expense. Every kid is fed pooled raw milk from our herd. Once they leave our farm, we do not have control over what they are exposed to. We encourage you to continue good herd health management practices and test annually.
● All kids will be disbudded (unless naturally polled). If you would like horns, the kid must be paid for in full before 2 weeks old. CDT shots are given to kids at the time of disbudding. They are likely to leave a lump under the skin at the injection site. We try to always give the injection under the front left leg so the lump isn't noticeable if the kid is shown.
● If there is not a deposit holding a goat kid at birth, they will be posted for sale as first come first served on our website and Facebook page. We do not hold animals without a deposit. We reserve the right to change the price as we see fit if kids not held by a deposit. Deposits that were not made prior to birth are 50% of the total purchase price.
● Starting January 1, 2024 all buck kids to be registered are required to have DNAon file withADGAin order to register future progeny. We will have all buck kids DNA'd for the new owner's convenience after the kid is paid for in full and registered by the new owner. The cost of DNA typing will be included in the purchase price of the buck kid. If the new owner fails to send in registration paperwork by January 1st of the following year, the DNAcost responsibility becomes that of the buyer. If you would like us to request Alpha-S1 Casein typing at the same time, we will do that with an additional fee.
● We only sell animals that are healthy to the best of our knowledge! We do everything we can to maintain healthy animals on our farm. Be aware that it is very stressful on kids to switch environment, routine, and food. We will always recommend to keep with the same routine and diet they are used to. We'll give recommendations on feed so you can switch them over gradually to your program. With this said, be well prepared to take care of your newly purchased babies and any stress related health issues that can arise. Coccidia prevention is used when raising our goat kids. It is important that you continue coccidia prevention after you take your new kids home. THIS IS SUPER IMPORTANT! The stress of environment, diet, and routine change can cause a bloom in coccidia and can wreck havoc on your new babies.
● We do not allow any farm visits due to privacy, liability, and herd health. Please respect this and if you have any questions about our animals feel free to ask. Also feel free to ask for our veterinarian's phone number for reference. We post lots of information and pictures on our Facebook page and this website to maintain as much transparency as possible. Feel free to message us about more pictures or specific info you are looking for about our animals. We keep files of pictures for every animal.
