Council approves platting for Muslim community center BY MIKE HANKS – SUN NEWSPAPERS A proposal to combine the plats associated with a future Muslim community center provided the Bloomington City Council and residents with an exercise in determining what was or wasn’t germane to the matter at hand. When the workout was complete, the council approved the preliminary and final plat for the property, as well as a variance request associated with the plan. The council approved a conditionaluse permit for the Al Farooq Youth and Family Center earlier this year. The former school building at 8201 Park Ave. S. includes a separate parcel that has an athletic field and courts, a shared amenity developed jointly by the city and the building’s former ownership.
