Partnership Working with ECL

Inclusive Employment

For adults with learning disabilities and Autism with ambitions of gaining paid work, the Inclusive Employment programme will enhance the opportunities available to you; by identifying possible employers, developing CVs, arranging and mediating interviews, offering skills development, work experience and on-the-job coaching.

ACL works closely with ECL teams in both day services and inclusive employment to support customers to fill skills gaps and reach their full potential.

Learners on ACL vocational, work-based courses can be referred onto the ECL

inclusive employment team when ready to make the next step into the world of work.

This is implemented by learners enrolling on a transition year, where they can continue with ACL to fill skills gaps but also work with an ECL Job coach to help them to find employment.

This has been highly successful partnership with a number of really positive cases where learners have progressed from ACL courses into paid employment.

Case Study: Paul

Learning at the ACL has helped me to develop new skills such as cooking, cleaning, and other life skills. I have improved on my maths and English too. I made lots of new friends at the ACL. I started coming to the ACL college in 2015 and have gained so much experience through you guys I couldn’t fault any of the staff the college is a very welcoming place.

I also volunteer at ACL, which has helped me gain confidence in helping students come out of their comfort

zones and I’m hoping to take on more volunteer classes full time as I’m coming to the end of my college life.

As well as being a volunteer at ACL, I also do voluntary work at Mercury Theatre. I first learnt about this volunteer position from Sharron Howard who is a fantastic individual who gave me the confidence to apply for this job.

I have gained more skills and learnt how to run a stall. I have volunteered over the pride event and the Rice and Spice festival which I really enjoyed doing as one of the stalls was selling funky hats that she let me wear for the day.
