Feature Stories Passenger traffic up 6% in ACI Asia-Pacific airports during November 2014 Preliminary passenger traffic results for the month of November 2014 released by ACI Asia-Pacific showed continued moderate growth from last year in Asia-Pacific airports +6.0% and Middle East airports +6.1%.

Majority of the airports in both Asia-Pacific and the Middle East reported positive growth for the month. Bangkok Don Muang (DMK) topped the list recorded the highest growth rate (+48.8%) among all reporting airports. The growth was supported by vibrant growth in both domestic and international passenger traffic. In India, three airports generating high growth rate in excess of 20%: Cochin (COK) +26.9%, Hyderabad (HYD) +21.9%, and Bangalore (BLR) +20.2%. Growth in the Middle East continued to be led by the following airports reporting double digit growth: Abu Dhabi (AUH) +15.6%, Dubai World Central (DWC) +15.4%, Kuwait (KWI) +12.9%, and Doha (DOH) +11%.

In terms of freight traffic for the month, Asia-Pacific maintained a steady growth rate at +4.7% from last year. The Middle East continued to record high growth of +12.8% with Dubai World Central (DWC) +301.9% and Abu Dhabi (AUH) +13.8% leading the region. Among Asia-Pacific airports, Kuala Lumpur (KUL) +27.5% reported the highest growth in excess of 25%.

For the year to end of November, passenger traffic in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East recorded a year-on-year increase of +5.0% and +8.6% respectively. Year-to-date growth in freight volume was +5.7% for the Asia-Pacific and +12.4% for the Middle East.

New leaders of ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Environment

Committee for 2015-2016 Announced The Regional Office is pleased to announce the new leaders for the ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Environment Committee (REC) following the recent election. Mr. Mike Kilburn of Airport Authority Hong Kong was elected as the Chair and Mr. Jakrapop Charatsri of Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited. as the Vice-Chair. They will be leading the Committee for two years with effect from January 1, 2015.

Mr. Kilburn, Senior Manager, Environment at Airport Authority Hong Kong, has been serving as Vice Chair of the REC since its establishment in 2012. He and his team at Hong Kong International Airport have been actively supporting several committee initiatives, which include reduction of aircraft cabin waste, development of an environmental survey and a survey on reduced engine taxiing at Asia Pacific airports.

“I am delighted to serve as the Chair of this Committee, I would like to take this opportunity to thank our immediate Past Chair, Dr. Narendra Hosabettu of Mumbai International Airport Pvt. Ltd., for his leadership over the last two years. I look forward to building on the solid foundation he established.” said Mr. Kilburn.

Mr. Jakrapop Charatsri, Senior Airport Specialist of Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited is the founding Chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) International Airports Association (AAA) Environmental Working Group.

Mr. Charatsri said “I thank the REC members for electing me as the Vice-chair for 2015-2016. I hope to serve the REC with my environmental experience in an airport group company and to strengthen cooperation in environmental initiatives and best practices sharing between the REC and small airports in the ASEAN Community.”

ACI Asia-Pacific Small Airports Program – Financial Assistance for Training – Now Available

The ACI Asia-Pacific Regional Office is pleased to announce the Small Airports Program - Financial Assistance for Training for year 2015.

The Regional Office recognizes the importance and increasing need for airport staff training and knowledge exchange amongst airports in the fastest growing region, AsiaPacific. ACI Global Training, in cooperation with the Regional Office has set up various courses to train and develop airport staff and management talents in order to meet tomorrow’s challenges.

The Small Airports Program - Financial Assistance for Training aims to assist airport members which are small in size with limited budget to attend valuable training and encourage exchanges amongst airports in the region.
