Nursing Ethics - Physician Responsibility to Patients and Society Health care professionals have a responsibility to serve individuals and society. Notably, individuals comprise society, and the health needs of individuals constitute societal health needs. Further, societal norms, traditions and values influence healthcare practices and services delivered at different levels of care. Therefore, physicians have a responsibility to provide individual and public health care services that satisfy the needs of the people. Healthcare delivery is pegged on holistic concepts to enable physicians to comprehensively address the physical, spiritual, psychological, and emotional health needs of individuals. Consequently, physicians must ensure that individuals, families and society participate in health care to achieve positive eventualities. Moskop (2016) argued that to achieve this goal physicians utilize standards favorable to individuals and society. These standards create a platform where physicians adequately utilize available resources and deliver suitable services to all. Molchan (2018) noted that the ethical elements of care at the individual level are similar to those at the societal level. For instance, the principles of anatomy, non-maleficence, beneficence and justice apply to all levels of care. Moskop (2016) highlights the importance of ethical principles to patient care. The publication recognizes the physician’s role in delivering care that addresses a person's health needs.
