Agents of Socialization

Page 1

Agents of Socialization Socialization is a process whereby people acquire social skills that assist them in interacting with different social groups. This knowledge is important when interacting with people with common cultures, beliefs, values, and norms. It is essential because it equips an individual with skills for efficient communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal interactions. Family is the first social group and the most important agent of socialization. It begins when the fetus is still in her mother s womb. As the fetus grows, he/she learns different voices, music, and body movement that he/she will use after birth and continues throughout life. The family will help the child understand the basic and necessary things for survival, such as; eating, walking, talking, playing, asking for help, and interacting with people around them. Without this basic skill, life would be unbearable for the kid.
