1 Good Hygiene Routines and Practices Hygiene is defined as the various steps that are practiced in order to preserve health. According to Newson, et al., there are different types of hygiene; these include, personal hygiene, home hygiene refers to the practices carried out to ensure the home and everyday surroundings are clean and pathogen-free (2013). Food hygiene refers to the measures performed to ensure that food is free of contamination at all stages of its storage, handling, cooking and eating. Medical hygiene is the hygiene practices that are performed in a hospital setting to prevent and minimize the spread of diseases. Safe hygiene practices include hand washing, laundering, proper garbage disposal, and bathing. At the community level, good hygiene involves implementing measures to ensure effective sanitation, good drainage, steady water supply and curbing pollution. Observing good hygiene practices is essential to the health and well-being of individuals and the community at large. The effects of poor hygiene affect both individuals and the community severe.
