U.S. Drug Policy Forum I am not for continued use of the current U.S. drug policy for several reasons that I will elucidate. The policy has failed to bring down the effects of drugs and substance abuse in the country. Despite the expectations that the policy would be effective in cutting down drug abuse and the accompanying effects, the problem continues to persist. At its best, the policy has managed to increase the number of incarcerations, which largely comprise the people of African American ancestry. Increased incarcerations without a reduction in the use of drugs and their effects on the community point out the anti-drug policy's failure, hence a need for change. Secondly, in 2017, it was established that about 38% of adults were battling the use of prohibited drugs. The percentage is too high and a threat to the safety and stability of the country.
