Quality Improvement and Infection Prevention

1 Quality Improvement and Infection Prevention The responsibility of assessing, quantifying, and improving quality cuts across multiple departments, just like other care processes. All healthcare staff must maintain quality at all levels of care. Nursing care, resources availability, hospital quality, and health workers’ commitment influence patient safety and health care quality. Leaders must balance these factors to promote a culture of safety and quality. Ferlie, Montgomery, and Reff (2016) noted that an effective health care organization promotes a just culture and ensures that patient safety and quality of services occupy its core. Maintaining an organizational culture typified by patient safety does not occur by accident; it involves extensive planning, resources, and commitment. Nurses are actively involved in supporting a culture of quality and patient safety. This paper proposes a project on implementing a staff education program on infection prevention of surgical sites.
