It's Important to Protect Your Hearing!

Your Manager will determine what types of hearing protection devices are needed on the jobsite, but here are some examples of the different types of hearing protection:

Earmuffs

Ear bands

Earplugs

How Do We Hear?

A sound source (Ex: An Airplane) sends out vibrations into the air. These vibrations are called sounds waves. The ear changes the energy in sound waves into nerve impulses which travel to the brain and are then interpreted.

Sound is measured by its frequency and intensity. Frequency is the pitch (high or low) of a sound. High-frequency sound can be more damaging to your hearing then low-frequency sound.

Intensity is the loudness of a sound. Loudness is measured in decibels. Employers must provide workers hearing protection when workers are exposed to noise at levels of 85 decibels or more over an eighthour period.

It’s Important To Be Safe At Home Too!

Hearing loss can result from exposure to any source of excessive noise, even if you're not at work. For example, you can be exposed to high noise levels when you:

• Use power tools

• Attend concerts and sporting events

• Listen to loud music on headphones

• Shoot targets at a gun range

It's just as important to wear hearing protection during these noisy activities as it is to wear it in a noisy workplace.

Safety Flash Stay Hydrated!

With the weather getting warmer now is the time to take action!

 It is recommended to drink at least 50oz to 64oz of water a day.

Do not wait until you are thirsty to drink water.

Other beverages such as soda or coffee steal water from your body and make you more dehydrated.

Your urine can serve as an indicator of whether you are hydrated or not.

 If your urine is dark and you are visiting the restroom less frequently, you need to drink more water.

Staying hydrated is key!

DID YOU KNOW… Water comprises more than 60% of our body weight!
