VOORWOORD Het belang van thuis is nu meer dan ooit relevant. Er zijn inherente kwaliteiten aan goed ontwerp en architectuur waar mensen altijd door aangetrokken zullen zijn: natuurlijk licht dat in balans is en je niet het gevoel geeft dat je binnenshuis bent, een goede ruimtelijke circulatie, een verlangen naar geborgenheid en een band met natuurlijke materialen in onze huizen.

Voor de derde uitgave van onze Jaarboeken (editie 2021) ligt de focus op topkwaliteit, traditioneel vakmanschap en ingetogen klasse. In dit Jaarboek 2021 - Hedendaags Wonen ligt de nadruk op topdesign, strakke maar warme architectuur en interieurs. Het Jaarboek 2021 - Tijdloos Wonen verschijnt gelijktijdig en legt de nadruk op klassieke en meer traditionele vormen, de integratie van antieke bouwmaterialen, hout en natuursteen, exclusieve stoffen en objecten, de restauratie van woningen en boerderijen. Beide Jaarboeken vullen elkaar perfect aan en bieden samen een bijzondere selectie van tientallen recent opgeleverde villa’s, landhuizen, herenhuizen en appartementen.

Il y a des qualités inhérentes à un bon design et à une architecture qui attireront toujours les gens: une lumière naturelle équilibrée et qui ne vous donne pas l’impression d’être à l’intérieur, une facilité de circulation d’un espace à l’autre, un désir d’être protégé et une connexion aux matériaux naturels dans nos maisons.

Pour la troisième publication de nos Annuaires (édition 2021), l’accent est mis sur la qualité supérieure, l’artisanat traditionnel et la classe sobre. Le désir de qualité continuera de croître dans les espaces, les matériaux et l’expérience. Dans cet Annuaire 2021 - Maisons Contemporaines, l’accent est mis sur le design haut de gamme, l’architecture élégante mais chaleureuse et les intérieurs. L’Annuaire 2021- Maisons Intemporelles apparaît simultanément et met l’accent sur les formes classiques et plus traditionnelles, l’intégration de matériaux de construction anciens, le bois et la pierre naturelle, les tissus et objets exclusifs, la restauration des maisons et des fermes. A RESPECTFUL DIALOGUE

In establishing a respectful dialogue between new and old, this private residence in Melbourne, Australia balances the artful and the restrained. Characterised by modern interpretations of heritage detailing, this single-fronted Edwardian home has been reimagined with inventive spatial planning, a second-story addition, and the quiet richness of craft and materiality. The interiors are purposefully understated and sophisticated, avoiding any ostentatious or cliched representations of luxury. Highly refined detailing, a restrained materials palette, neutral colour tones, and a focus on light and proportion all combine to create a calm and sophisticated aesthetic.

Period features such as arched ceiling cornices, hallway arches and feature window frames are reimagined with contemporary vision throughout. As visitors cross the threshold past restored tessellated tiles and exterior tuckpointed brickwork, a view line through the residence opens to reveal layers of old to new. At the front of the home a grand arched doorway reveals a sanctuary-like master suite with vaulted ceiling. At the midpoint of the home stands a sculptural stair marking the junction between new and old. Its poetic curve harmonises with the flow of a sculpted ceiling above.

This sense of movement is heightened by swathes of light from the adjacent central courtyard, itself a device for providing connection between the indoors and out. A garden at the rear of the home serves a similar purpose, connecting the open-plan kitchen, dining and living with the outdoors.

This residence reflects Conrad Architects’ deep understanding of the tradition of architecture and design, and its ability to unite elements of classical and contemporary design. While the expression of the interior is purely contemporary, the design process focused on a number of core architectural principles that have been pursued by architects and designers for hundreds of years – space, light, proportion, form, materiality, structure and detail. Elles sont toujours fabriquées à la main aujourd’hui, dans des espaces de travail attrayants - tous fabriqués en Italie, au bord de la rivière Serio… Chaque lampe est donnée tout le temps nécessaire pour être bien faite.
