Although seeds are often overlooked, the book reveals their surprising resemblance to flowers, stones, sculptures, and even jewels
Features photographs by Paul Starosta, a biologist and photographer who has published over 40 award winning books on plants and animals
Includes scientific information about the seeds, their life cycles, and characteristics
Paul Starosta is a French nature photographer, famous for finding and highlighting the artistic beauties of nature. The 200 superb photographs in this book illustrate the splendour and complexity of seeds, including the very smallest specimens. Drawing on the collections of Jean Laty and the La Voie des Fleurs society in Draveil (France), they showcase the infinite shapes, colours and stunning details to be found in objects often ignored: some seeds look like flowers, others stones or sculptures, while still others suggest jewels fashioned by some imaginary goldsmith.
The almost magical beauty of these little masterpieces, which enclose the mystery of life in both the infinitely small and the infinitely large, is brought out by the play of light and shadow. These little wonders conjure up others and are reminiscent of works of art or architectural features. Human beings are themselves nature and have found inspiration in it to create their own bold and curious works. At the end of the volume, miniature photographs are accompanied by scientific information on the seeds, their life, characteristics and different families.
Paul Starosta is a biologist and photographer. Combining his twin passions of nature and photography, he has published over 40 award-winning books on plants and animals. He is the subject of issue 129 (2010) ofPhoto Poche, a series created by Robert Delpire and published by Actes Sud, which has become a yardstick in its field throughout the world.

This book showcases the beauty of seashells collected by Jacques Senders
Features photographs by Paul Starosta, a biologist and photographer who has published over 40 award winning books on plants and animals
Includes scientific information on shells and their characteristics
Molluscs are extraordinary builders; indeed, their architectural skills are almost unparalleled in the animal world. Who among us has failed to marvel at the wonderful structure of the smallest shell picked up on the beach? Some enthusiasts collect them throughout their lives attracted by their beauty if they are aesthetes, or sought out for scientific purposes, as in the case of Jacques Senders. In this book, Paul Starosta s spectacular photographs take the reader on a journey through this astounding collection, first started 50 years ago.
These shells, marvels of nature as they are, naturally suggest exotic or futuristic architecture, ancient or Art Nouveau vases, or even precious stones or volcanic rocks, and reaffirm the importance of nature as a source of inspiration for artists and architects. By celebrating the extraordinary variety and architectural refinement of the shells in Jacques and Rita Senders s collection, the book reveals a world where nature far surpasses human imagination and invention.
At the end of the volume, miniature photographs are accompanied by scientific information on shells, their life, characteristics and different families.

Loving: A Photographic History of Men in Love, 1850-1950 portrays the history of romantic love between men in hundreds of moving and tender vernacular photographs taken between the years 1850 and 1950. This visual narrative of astonishing sensitivity brings to light an until-now-unpublished collection of hundreds of snapshots, portraits, and group photos taken in the most varied of contexts, both private and public.

The collection now includes photos from all over the world: Australia, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, France, Germany, Japan, Greece, Latvia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, and Serbia. The subjects were identified as couples by that unmistakable look in the eyes of two people in love impossible to manufacture or hide. They were also recognised by body language evidence as subtle as one hand barely grazing another and by inscriptions, often coded.
Included here are ambrotypes, daguerreotypes, glass negatives, tin types, cabinet cards, photo postcards, photo strips, photomatics, and snapshots over 100 years of social history and the development of photography.
Loving will be produced to the highest standards in illustrated book publishing, The photographs many fragile from age or handling have been digitised using a technology derived from that used on surveillance satellites and available in only five places around the world. Biography of Marilyn Monroe by Eve Arnold
There are some wonderfully intimate, tender and witty photographs in this big sumptuous volume, as well as ones that capture, as only the still camera can, the insecurity and pain behind the ever-smiling facade. John Banville, The Guardian an unprecedented reissue, enriched by Michael Arnold, the photographer s grandson. Harper s Bazaar France
Marilyn Monroe by Eve Arnold , one of the best (if not the best) photographic documents ever released about the ultimate sex symbol of the 20th century. Greek Newspaper TO BHMA
In collaboration with the official Estate of Marilyn Monroe, the beautifully designed book featuring a rose gold color palette showcases gorgeous photos of Monroe in her prime wearing some of her most iconic wardrobe in addition to her simplistic fashion sense off screen. The Hollywood Times
The beauty in these photos is bittersweet. The TimesLuxx
When they met at a party in the early 1950s, Marilyn Monroe remarked to Eve Arnold that she d seen the photographer s images of Marlene Dietrich. If you could do that well with Marlene, Monroe said, can you imagine what you could do with me? A star in her day and one that continues to captivate the world, Monroe s multifaceted persona is brilliantly captured through Arnold s lens in this revised and redesigned edition of the 1987 publication, Marilyn Monroe: An Appreciation
Including newly discovered and restored photographs in colour and in black and white, alongside insightful commentary, Eve Arnold takes us on a photographic journey of Monroe s life. A detailed biography in Arnold s own words allows a rare glimpse into the stories behind the photographs and her unique relationship with Monroe. As these two female artists come together in the creation of this stunning photographic collection, an important historical testimonial has been actualised, showing women striving in a male-oriented world and succeeding in reaching the top of their game.
American photojournalist Eve Arnold has travelled all over the globe photographing a wide range of subjects, from the rich and famous to people from everyday life. She strove to reach areas that were underrepresented, such as the civil rights and Black power movements, Arabian women in harems and hammams, the subject of birth, the poor, the old and the underdogs. Her interest in photography began in 1946, while working for Kodak's photo-finishing plant in New Jersey. Not long after, she became the first woman to join Magnum Photos agency, during which time she made her name shooting fashion. Her images of Marilyn Monroe, taken on the set of The Misfits (1961) are among her most memorable and encapsulate the 'curiosity' that she claims as her driving force throughout her career.

Photographs by Dean Chalkley
Beautifully reproduced images of late- 90s and early- 00s clubbers
Legendary photos of Ibiza s peak years
Foreword by Mixmag s former editor-in-chief, Neil Stevenson
By (photographer) Dean Chalkley
9781788843119
Quotes from Bez, Shaun Ryder, Colleen Cosmo Murphy and DJ Paulette among others
an intriguing look at what is the relatively recent past, and a great one for nostalgia especially if you ve ever paid a visit to the island yourself for a week of carefree abandon. Amateur Photographer
The photographs in Dean s new book Back in Ibiza 1998 2003 , taken in the heat of many magic moments, capture the golden age of happy, all-in-it-together, 24 hour party people, bacchanalian excess, and sunkissed beach life Bureau of Lost Culture Podcast
The photos come fast and furious, without captions, encouraging the readers to figure it out for themselves just as they would have to in real life if this all was happening in front of them. CNN Dean Chalkley has been taking compelling cultural photographs since the mid 1990s and his work with the likes of Oasis, Idris Elba and Amy Winehouse is widely celebrated.
At the tail end of the 90s, Chalkley found himself in Ibiza, the capital of the clubbing world. For many, the turn of the millennium represents the peak of club life, when clubbers would lose themselves for days in the often-surreal abandon of their favourite Spanish party haven. Working forMixmag, the biggest dance-music magazine in the world, Chalkley amassed a vast archive of images from this unrivalled golden era in the island s near-history. Back in Ibiza 1998 2003 offers a thrilling deep-dive through those images, illustrating the unfiltered and sometimes unhinged club scene from a world before Snapchat and TikTok reels. This unique collection is essential viewing for partygoers and clubbing fans, a joy to behold, and a nostalgic reminder of what a real party can look like.
Renowned photographer Dean Chalkley has created exciting imagery at the intersection of music, fashion and culture for the past three decades. His affinity and understanding of his subjects and how they sit within the cultural tapestry informs his output. The results are highly stimulating images packed with authenticity and integrity. Fuelled by his devotion to music and its potential for self-expression, his work manifests itself in many ways and celebrates a broad range of subjects, including participants in sub-cultures, underground pioneers to pop stars and people in the public eye. Through seminal projects, Dean has explored topics including contemporary Mod and Northern Soul scenes as well as 21st-century Rudeboys. Dean continues to be a prolific image maker working mainly with stills photography and occasionally moving image practices. His work appears in publications, brand campaigns and has been exhibited in eminent galleries. In 2024, Dean began a new photographic book project; a dynamic curation of images from the vast archive of photographs he made whilst on assignments in Ibiza between 1998 and 2003. These incredible photographs celebrate a wildly hedonistic moment on the Balearic Island thrusting the reader back into the heart of those truly liberated times.

On-topic: presents how global shifts in temperature are affecting snow and ice, melting glaciers, and how it affects the communities who live in those areas
Authors are experts in their field and have been studying glaciers for over 50 years
Gives a positive message as it s not only a reminder of what we stand to lose, but gives readers the courage to tackle the global climate emergency
Beautiful and moving Stunning images of our frozen Earth New Scientist
We live on a planet where up to a third of the land area is covered by snow and ice during the winter. This frozen world, known as the cryosphere, is captured in all its remarkable beauty by the spectacular photography within this book. Our Frozen Planet is a celebration of these frozen realms, inviting readers to embark upon a stunning photographic journey through the cryosphere.
However, this book also carries a stark warning: although the cryosphere represents a significant component of Planet Earth, it is rapidly declining in response to global warming. The next few generations of humanity will see unprecedented change in ice and snow cover. Now is the time to place on record the magical beauty of such areas.
Experts in their field, authors and photographers Michael Hambrey and Jürg Alean have each studied glaciers for half a century. They have worked in both polar regions, and several of the world s major mountain ranges. Their work has led them to examine ice and snow on all scales, from the mighty glaciers and ice sheets that still cover ten percent of Earth s land surface, to frozen puddles and fluffy snow. In this book, they explore how a myriad of snowflakes are transformed into glacier ice, how this then flows under the influence of gravity, and finally disappears through melting. They discuss how glaciers have eroded Earth s surface to produce some of our most stunning landscapes, and the importance of deposition of debris to the provision of rich soils. They investigate ice in the ocean, on lakes and in rivers, and illustrate the delicate beauty of frost and snow. Finally, they show some of the myriad ways in which plants, animals, and humans interact with the cryosphere.
Replete with breathtaking photography ranging from the tiniest icicle to the most mammoth glacier, this book is a vibrant celebration of this fascinating and breathtaking world in which we live. Our Frozen Planet serves as a reminder of what we are at risk of losing, and, in doing so, gives us the courage to tackle the global climate emergency.
Michael Hambrey is Emeritus Professor of Glaciology and former Director of the Centre for Glaciology in the Department of Geography & Earth Sciences at Aberystwyth University, Wales, UK. He was also founding director of the Climate Change Consortium of Wales. His research interests include glacial geology and structural glaciology. He has published nearly 200 scientific papers and several books, including university-level textbooksGlacial Environments (1994) and, with Jürg Alean, Colour Atlas of Glacial Phenomena (2017). In addition Michael has co-written popular science books Glaciers (2nd edn, 2004) and Gletscher der Welt (2013) with Jürg Alean, and Islands of the Arctic (2002) and The Continent of Antarctica (2018) with Julian Dowdeswell. Jürg Alean was formerly a teacher of geography at the Kantonsschule Zürcher Unterland in Bülach, Switzerland. He has undertaken extensive fieldwork in the Swiss Alps, the Canadian Arctic, Alaska and South America. His research has led to various scientific papers, in particular concerning dangerous glaciers and ice avalanches. He has also published many popular scientific articles and several books, for example, Gletscher der Alpen (2010) and Gletscher der Welt (2013), as well as those mentioned above with Michael Hambrey.

With explanatory essays that broaden our view of Tibetan culture and religious tradition and our understanding of the Dalai Lama s significance
The 14th Dalai Lama is one of the most famous personalities of our time. The exiled principal spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism, one of the most distinguished scholars of his religion, enjoys global recognition and admiration. No other photographer in the world is as close to His Holiness as Manuel Bauer, whose deep interest in Buddhism and Tibet dates back more than three decades. Since 1990, Bauer has visited and travelled with the Dalai Lama many times and has captured his public appearances and events as well as his private life in thousands of atmospheric photographs.
This book features some 200 of these images, many of which are published here for the first time. They offer unique insights into the Dalai Lama s travels and public appearances around the world as well as the media hype they cause. They also give an impression of the private side of this truly global public figure, allowing us to share some of the few moments when the Dalai Lama is alone with himself and his thoughts. A special section documents and visually explains a K lacakra, a fascinating sand mandala ritual that the Dalai Lama held with followers in the Indian Ladakh region in 2014.
The volume is rounded out with essays contributed by Thupten Jinpa, the Dalai Lama s longtime interpreter and a renowned Buddhist scholar, and Swiss journalist Christian Schmidt. They broaden our view of Tibetan culture and religious tradition and our understanding of the Dalai Lama s significance.
The Zurich-based Gaden Phodrang Foundation of the Dalai Lama was founded in 2015 with the aim to maintain and support the tradition and institution of the Dalai Lama with regard to his religious and spiritual duties.

Published to accompany an exhibition at Deauville, Les Franciscaines, France, 1 March to 29 May 2025
Provides insight into the richness and diversity of photographer Sebastião Salgado s images Sebastião Salgado will appear in person at Photo London 2025 for a special talk on Thursday 15th May
The exhibition, from which this catalogue has been produced, has been specially conceived with the MEP (Maison Européenne de la Photographie) and will give the public an insight into the richness and diversity of Sebastião Salgado s images. Since the 1970s, his black and white images have won him an international following. The MEP has the largest collection in Europe devoted to Sebastião Salgado, with no fewer than 350 prints to date. The exhibition, which brings together around 150 photographs, will focus on three major series that have marked his work over the last 30 years. Salgado s photographs bear powerful witness to the tragedies of humanity: wars, famines, migrations, refugee camps and the economic transformations that are shaking up our times.
This exhibition and its catalogue also provide an opportunity to present almost 75 previously unpublished prints, which will enable the public to learn more about the photographer s work. These photographs come from an exceptional donation made by Lélia and Sebastião Salgado to the MEP in 2018.

Approaches the work of Brassaï, a multifaceted figure in the history of French photography
The volume offers a chance to approach the work of Brassaï (1899-1984), a multifaceted figure in the history of French photography. A painter, sculptor and writer in addition to being a photographer, his name is inextricably linked to the masterpieceParis de Nuit, published in 1933 with a preface by Paul Morand. Brassaï s views of the capital illuminated by public lighting and other sources, and at times shrouded in fog lend a mysterious aura to the urban landscape. Brassaï was a forerunner in capturing the night-time atmosphere of different areas of Paris, masterfully blending photographic art with his personal sensitivity.
The volume, curated by the photographer s nephew Philippe Ribeyrolles, sets out to revive Brassaï s body of work, offering an overview of his evolution over the years. From the artist s collaboration with Edward Steichen to international recognition in the wake of his 1957 exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, Brassaï s influence spreads far beyond the French borders.
The volume includes texts by Philippe Ribeyrolles, Silvia Paoli, an interview with Gilbert Brassaï, the artist s wife, and biographical information.
Text in English and French.

A fascinating country is presented in an unusual way: melancholic and in black and white, aesthetic beauty of land, people and architecture
A reminiscence of the 2016 Olympics and the 2014 World Cup Olaf Heine is a well-known figure in fashion and portrait photography
In the colorful tapestry of culture and landscape that is Brazil, renowned photographer Olaf Heine found a playground for his imagination and creativity. About Photography Curves make up the entire Universe, Oscar Niemeyer, Brazil s star architect, once said. Photographer and director Olaf Heine met the legendary architect shortly before his death. Since 2010, the well-known portrait and fashion photographer has been tracing the soul of Brazil and showing its sensual joie de vivre with a great deal of sensitivity for shapes and textures.
In his newly revised photo book Brazil, Heine contrasts the Brazilian landscape and architecture with the curves of the people surfers, dancers and beautiful women. He deliberately dispenses with the otherwise stereotypical colours and provides an unusual black and white view of Brazil.
However, Heine is not only interested in the wealth of curves in the architecture and the bodies, but also in a continuation in life: Everything is flexible and in constant flux. From the intensity of longing to the lightness of forms, Olaf Heine shows us a fascinating country in all its diversity, beauty and melancholy.
In his works, Heine depicts the place of longing that the first generation of Brazilian modernists created in architecture, literature and music in the mid-20th century as an aesthetic expression of a social, political and urban society that was undergoing positive change. A wishful thinking and supposed utopia that many people look back on with longing, especially in the current context.
The coffee table book Brazil is the epitome of Brazilian saudade, the longing and wanderlust for the tropical beauty of nature, the lively cities and unique people. For all Brazil fans, this illustrated book is a wonderful gift to immerse themselves in the country and its optimistic way of life again and again, free of clichés.
With texts by Oscar Niemeyer, Ruy Castro, Marcelo Camelo and Matthias Harder.
Text in English, German, French and Portuguese.
Olaf Heine is internationally known for his enigmatic and richly detailed portraits of musicians, actors, writers, visual artists and athletes, as well as impressive architectural and landscape photography. Olaf Heine also established himself as a director for award-winning music videos, short films and commercials. His aesthetic has decisively shaped the visual language of countless bands, including Die Ärzte and Rammstein, as part of their many years of collaboration.

In 1981 Helge Tscharn began to photographically document the dawn of German skateboarding history
Tscharn captured every phase of German skateboarding with his signature style
Over the course of his career, he not only witnessed talent come and go, but also the rise of the stars of the skateboarding world and often their tragic downfall
His photos, spanning over 40 years, appear like time capsules with an unmistakable feel for the moment
With portraits of: Lance Mountain, Jim Greco, Sonic Youth, Pantera, Motorhead, Marc Gonzales, Tom Penny, Prodigy, Aphex Twin and others
In 1981 just three years after skateboards first arrived in Germany from the USA Helge Tscharn began to photographically document the dawn of German skateboarding history. Being part of the scene himself, Tscharn captured every phase of German skateboarding with his signature style: the raw beginnings of the 1980s, heavily influenced by the punk rock movement, were immortalised in grainy black-and-white shots, while colour film and the occasional fisheye lens came into use in the era of hip-hop and 90s streetwear. Over the course of his career, he not only witnessed talent come and go, but also the rise of the stars of the skateboarding world and often their tragic downfall.
Tscharn was always there, always in the thick of it, accompanying the indie and emo wave of the 2000s, the DIY culture of the 2010s, and of course, the present, which embraces and reinterprets all these influences. His photos, spanning over 40 years, exude the sweat and blood of the riders in every grain and appear like time capsules with an unmistakable feel for the moment.
With portraits of: Lance Mountain, Jim Greco, Sonic Youth, Pantera, Motorhead, Marc Gonzales, Tom Penny, Prodigy, Aphex Twin and others.
Text in English and German.
Helge Tscharn has been documenting the German-European skateboard scene since the early eighties. The subjects could not be more different. Here the skateboarders and their world, there musicians, not on stage, but mostly before and after their performances. Speed and dynamism here, calm or tension there. For Helge Tscharn, this is not a contradiction, he is a skateboard and music photographer. While he has been documenting the German-European skateboard scene since the early eighties and thus showing even the uninitiated why these boards of all things mean the world, he also increasingly turned to music photography in the nineties: superficially pure portraits, they convey at second glance that pop music is a 24-hour event for everyone directly involved.
