RETURN OF THE KING FALL HOLY DAYS

Feast of Trumpets ָ ּ ׁ‫ה‬ ַ ‫רֹאשׁ‬ Head of the Year – Rosh Hashanah – ‫שנ ָה‬ Feast of Trumpets/Rosh Hashanah is literally the Day of Blasting (Lev 23:24; Num 29:1), and the sound of the shofar blast is an awakening to recognize that the LORD is King of the universe. Memorializing the great shofar blast on Mount Sinai (Exod 19-20), the sound of the shofar also calls for repentance as it announces and proclaims the return of King Yeshua (1 Thess 4:16; Rev 11:15). Blessed is the King Who comes in the Name of the LORD – Baruch HaMelech Haba B’Shem ADONAI (Psalm 118:24-26; Matt 23:39).

“The LORD will then be King over all the earth. In that day the LORD will be one and His Name one.”

Zechariah 14:9

In Jewish tradition, the Feast of Trumpets/Rosh Hashanah also celebrates the start of the new year and the 6th day of creation when God made Adam and Eve. According to Nehemiah 8:1-12, it is a day of unity, worship, studying the Scriptures, and a day to give generously “for the joy of the LORD is your strength” (vs 10). Sweet foods like apples and honey are also enjoyed to taste of the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living (Psalm 27:13; 34:9).

RETURN OF THE KING Day of Atonement – Yom Kippur – ‫יוֹם כִּפּוּר‬ In Jewish tradition, the Feast of Trumpets/Rosh Hashanah also begins the Ten Days of Awe, a time of searching our hearts and repenting before the LORD in preparation for the Day of Atonement/Yom Kippur.

On the Day of Atonement the high priest of Israel entered the Holy of Holies and offered corporate atonement for the sins of the people (Lev 16). This solemn day of prayer and repentance includes affliction through fasting from evening to evening (Lev 23:26-32; Num 29:7; Acts 27:9). The fast connects to the continued need for Yeshua’s atonement and that without the shedding of His blood as the once and for all sacrifice there is no forgiveness of sin (Heb 7:27; 9:22).

“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne.”

Psalm 97:2

The Day of Atonement also foreshadows the day of the LORD when King Yeshua returns to the earth to establish His righteousness and justice –– the foundation of His throne (Psalm 89:15; 97:2) –– and to seal the atonement of the family of Messiah for eternity through His blood. The LORD cares about justice so much that the Biblical calendar commemorates this great and terrible day –– great (sanctification) for the righteous and terrible (wrath) for the unrighteous.

FALL HOLY DAYS Tabernacles – Sukkot – ‫סוּכּוֹת‬ The joyous seven-day Feast of Tabernacles/Sukkot celebration prophesies the coming reign of Yeshua in the Millennial Kingdom which is inaugurated by the wedding banquet of the Lamb (Num 29:12; Isa 25:6-9; Rev 19:6-8). The LORD demonstrates His goodness during this Feast of Ingathering as Israel enjoys the firstfruits of the fall harvest (Exod 23:16; 34:22; Lev 23:39; Deut 8:8). Building a tabernacle/sukkah –– a temporary dwelling –– serves as a reminder of the years the children of Israel spent in the wilderness, experiencing the miraculous provision of the LORD through manna from heaven and rocks that produced water.

Around the time of the Feast of Tabernacles/Sukkot, the first rain arrives in the land of Israel, which they have not experienced since the springtime –– about four months! In the first century, the Jewish people celebrated the coming of these early rains with a water drawing festival during Sukkot. This was the context of Yeshua comparing Himself to Living Water in John 7:37-38: “On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Yeshua stood up and cried out loudly, ‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink.

Whoever believes in Me, as the Scripture says, ‘out of his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.’”

“HaleluYah for the LORD God Almighty reigns! Let us rejoice and be glad and give the glory to Him! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and His bride has made herself ready!”

RETURN OF THE KING FALL HOLY DAYS 8th Day Solemn Assembly – Shemini Atzeret – The 8th Day Solemn Assembly/Shemini Atzeret actually concludes the seven-day celebration of the Feast of Tabernacles/Sukkot (Lev 23:33-39; Num 29:12,35; 1 King 8:65-66; 2 Chron 7:9). The day commemorates the new heavens and new earth –– the New Jerusalem Garden city (Rev 21-22:1-5).

Throughout Scripture, the eighth day symbolizes purification and new beginnings (Exod 29; Lev 8-9; 14-15; John 20:1).

The symbolism of the 8th Day Solemn Assembly/Shemini Atzeret becomes reality when King Yeshua “hands over the Kingdom to God the Father after He has destroyed all rule and authority and power” (1 Cor 15:24). The Father receives the Kingdom –– represented by a unified, purified, and diverse family of Jew and Gentile –– by adopting His children (Rom 8:15-16; Rev 21:7). He brings His adopted family into His home as Heaven and earth are united. “They shall be His people, and God Himself shall be among them and be their God” forever (Rev 21:3). God the Father gets the family He always wanted!
