6 kW

60 Hz / 1800 RPM

5 kW

50 Hz / 1500 RPM The ideal 6kW generator set is small and lightweight. The M673L3 certainly qualifies. But it stands apart through its remarkable long-life reliability. The reason? The M673L3 runs at 1800 rpm (1500 rpm for 50 Hz), instead of 3600 rpm. Consider that during only 2000 hours of operation the 1800 rpm M673L3 will turn 216 million fewer revolutions than a 3600 rpm set. Its pistons will travel 38,522 fewer miles. Its cylinders will withstand 108 million fewer detonations. Which engine do you think will give more years of reliable service? We couldn’t agree more. The M673L3 has a balanced Lugger three cylinder diesel instead of a rough two banger. Four plateform isolation mounts reduce vibration transmission even more. For maximum comfort afloat the new M673L3 has a Sound Maze air intake system. Air enters through a molded rubber hose and an acoustic dampening chamber. Air goes in but much less noise gets out. For maximum sound attenuation, specify a sound enclosure. It is only 32.5 inches long and has powder-coated aluminum panels with trigger latches for easy service access. The generator ’s automatic voltage regulator is powered by an auxiliary AC stator winding that isolates it from the main windings. The AVR always has clean power to provide excitation for faster load response and better motor starting. Your air conditioner and other motor driven equipment will love being matched with the 673. A 30 amp AC circuit breaker in the junction box protects your wiring. Safety shutdowns for low oil pressure, high coolant temperature and high exhaust temperature protect your engine. The M673L3 meets US EPA Tier III emission standards. You, your moorage neighbors and the environment will all benefit. 1800 rpm reliability, low emissions, quiet operation and strong motor starting. Good things do come in small packages.

Ask to see most company’s 5kW marine generator sets, and you’ll likely see a light, fairly disposable machine, seemingly built as an afterthought. Not Northern Lights. Our 5kW M673LD3 is built with the careful engineering and meticulous craftsmanship that has defined every Northern Lights product for over fifty years. Northern Lights starts with a heavy duty base engine. Then our unique marinization process creates a machine specifically designed for the unforgiving rigors of the marine environment. Adding a sturdy generator end creates the most reliable, durable and simple to use marine power solution on the market. The M673LD3 is designed for unmatched reliability. By achieving 5 kilowatts at 1800, instead of 3600 rpm, the revolutions are cut in half. Piston and cylinder wear is minimized. The generator ’s automatic voltage regulator (AVR) is powered by an auxiliary AC stator winding that isolates it from the main windings. This ensures that the AVR has clean power to provide excitation for faster load response. Whether running the refrigerator, air conditioner, or any other accessory, the M673LD3 can make power dips and surges a thing of the past. Comfort is always a consideration when it comes to Northern Lights generator power. The M673LD3 is built on a balanced three cylinder diesel. Four plateform isolation mounts reduce vibration transmission even further. The Sound Maze air intake system is another Northern Lights innovation developed with your comfort in mind. Air enters through a molded rubber hose and an acoustic dampening chamber. This allows for clear air flow, with a minimal noise signature. For even greater sound attenuation, your M673LD3 can be equipped with our state of the art sound enclosure. Because the M673LD3 meets all current USEPA Tier III emission standards, you can rest assured that your 5kW will be as clean as it is quiet and efficient.

50 Hz / 1500 RPM These are the powerhouses that go in vessels that need continuous AC power to operate. Unfortunately, some 20 kW machines have small displacement, light duty diesels that can’t stand up to heavy use. Some even need turbochargers to compensate for their small displacement. The M844LW3 is different. Powered by a naturally aspirated, four cylinder, 2.2 liter (135 cid) Lugger diesel, this set has the low end torque needed to start bigger electric motors without breaking a sweat. The M844LW3 meets US EPA Tier III emission standards to protect the environment you enjoy. Vibration isolation mounts, air intake silencer and cast manifolds make the set remarkably smooth and quiet. A high attenuation sound enclosure is optional. Northern Lights generator sets are simple to operate and maintain. A 20 foot wire harness and control panel lets you operate it from your boat’s bridge. The engine’s DC electrical system uses reliable relays instead of delicate printed circuit boards. If a failure should occur, you can simply plug in an inexpensive relay. All service points are on one side within easy reach. The sea water pump is up front for easy impeller changes. Need hydraulic power? Add an optional electric clutch front PTO. At the touch of a button you have power for your bowthruster and winches without starting your main Front PTO engine.

The M864W3 combines ample power, long life features, and low emissions owners expect from a Northern Lights. Exceptionally smooth, quiet and clean, it makes life aboard comfortable while protecting the environment. The 2.5 liter Lugger diesel has been designed for clean exhaust and meets the US EPA Tier III emission requirements. Noise is reduced at the design stage with several features. A laminated oil pan and an isolated rocker arm cover contain the noise at its source. A noise maze air intake silencer lowers noise while isolation mounts limit transmission of vibration to the vessel. For even more comfort specify a super attenuated, powder coated sound enclosure. The M864W3 is easy to live with and to service. Single side servicing, spin-on oil and fuel filters, washable air filter, two oil fills and a sea water pump you can actually reach make it a skipper’s dream. The relay based DC electrical system has no printed circuit board so you’ll never have to make the “motherboard” of all parts purchases. The M864W3 is available with a front PTO (power take off) and electric clutch. With the touch of a button you have up to 37 Horsepower at 1800 rpm for powering hydraulic accessories such as bow thrusters, Front PTO roller furling, anchor winches and deck gear.

A big power producer in a little package, the new Northern Lights M944W is ideal for the boater who expects unqualified excellence from his generator set without sacrificing valuable engine room space. Cranking out 30 kW at 60 Hz (1800 rpm), the M944W3 is intended for long life at full load. At more then 3.33 liters, this four cylinder dynamo has the displacement (203 cid) to shoulder the large loads. The generator is driven by a reliable Lugger engine, drawing its strength from an industrial block designed for 2500 max rpm; not the 3600 rpm automotive engine common in the industry. That is the reason that the M944W3 hits the top of its torque curve at 1800 rpm instead of sliding down the back of it. The block is impressive, but what makes the M944W3 so well adapted for the rigors of at-sea use is Northern Lights’ exclusive marinization package. From the cupro-nickle heat exchanger to the bronze/stainless gear driven seawater pump, no detail has been overlooked in engineering a superior marine product. The freshwater cooled exhaust manifold is sturdy cast iron with no dry risers. The M944W3 features Northern Lights’ revolutionary W-Series generator end for clean AC output and real short circuit protection. The air filter is cast aluminum for quiet operation. Producing AC is hardly the M944W3’s only trick. Add a 90 amp DC alternator and you’ll never run out of battery power again. Add a front PTO with an electric clutch for hydraulic power and drive your winches, bow thrusters or deck gear at the Front PTO touch of a button. Reliable, durable, simple to use, and maintain. For nearly 50 years, this has been the hallmark of Northern Lights products. The tradition of excellence continues with the M944W3.
