Job Description: The candidate is required to maintain, service, and overhaul aircraft engines and engine components to ensure airworthiness. Repairs, replaces and rebuilds aircraft engines and related components of moderate difficulty, such as installation and removal of QEC gear, replacement of FMU, Fuel Controls, gear boxes utilizing hand tools and power tools as required to assist senior Aircraft Mechanics. Reads and interprets manufacturer’s publications, maintenance manuals, service bulletins and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components. Assists in the inspection of engine and engine components for fluid leaks, cracks and other damage. Assists in troubleshooting, removal, repair and replacment of aircraft engine system components. Performs miscellaneous duties to service aircraft systems.
Minimum requirements: Minimum 36 months H-1 Y/Z Organizational Level Power Plants experience. Preferred to have 24 months H-1 Y/Z experience within the last 36 months. Must have completed the H-1 Y/Z Navy/Marine Corps Power Plants Class "C" school for Organizational Level. Must have completed USN/USMC/USCG Basic Aviation Corrosion Control training. May be required to become Plane Captain qualified. High School graduate or equivalent. Must have a valid driver’s license. Must have a current secret level clearance and be able to maintain it. Must be available to work any shift.
Work Environment/Conditions: China Lake Naval Weapons base is remotely located in the Mojave Desert, at an elevation of over 2300 ft above sea level, with temperature highs in summer months sometimes over 100 degrees. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards prevail. May be exposed to electrical shock hazards, fumes or airborne particles.
