Welcome to the 14th Annual Members’ Night.

It’s time to witness the impact of your support in action!

Dear Academy members, I am thrilled to welcome you to the Academy of Natural Sciences for our 14th Annual Members’ Night! Tonight, you will experience our science alongside the Academy’s extraordinary curators, collection managers, researchers, educators and animal ambassadors.

As we all know, these are exceptional times, and to ensure everyone's safety, we're unable to invite you behind the scenes as we have in years past. I'm optimistic this is a temporary adjustment, and you'll be exploring our collections and lab spaces at the 15th Annual Members' Night in 2022. In the meantime, you’ll find highlights from our collections and many wonderful experiences throughout the public galleries this evening.

Among the many activities we have in store, you’ll check out fossil specimens with our paleontologists and see experts at work in the Fossil Prep Lab, you’ll witness the microscopic beauty of water at the Academy Pop-up Lab, you’ll learn about the work of our brilliant Women In Natural Sciences students, and you’ll bind your own field journal with our librarians and archivists.

The work you see here tonight could not be accomplished without our members and donors. Your support cares for our collection of 19 million scientific specimens, sends our scientists around the globe to research our rapidly changing planet and connects our community with the natural world.

Thousands of rare books and field journals in our Library and Archives were carefully bound by hand. Watch bookbinding demonstrations and take home your own field journal!

Meet and touch live freshwater mussels and explore shell specimens from the Academy's collection.

The Future of Dioramas Talk with our exhibits team to learn more about the diorama renovations that have been completed and explore the changes they have in store.

Adopt-a-Critter Learn how your family can support the Academy’s animal ambassadors by providing nourishment, enrichment and comfortable housing while also providing opportunities for kids and adults to learn about wildlife.

Animal Encounters Meet our animal ambassadors and the keepers who take care of them. Discover the ways we keep the animals thriving with fun enrichment and exercise.

Meet the Animal Ambassadors

Meet our animal ambassadors and discover the important roles they play in their native habitats.

Animal ambassadors are an integral part of learning at the Academy because we believe that first-hand connections to nature and wildlife inspire a lifelong care for the natural world.

One interaction can turn a misunderstood species into a new favorite animal.

Your family can help care for the Academy’s animal ambassadors by supporting the Adopt-a-Critter program.

Your gift provides each animal in the Academy’s care with nourishment, enrichment (games and treats) and safe and comfortable housing, while also providing opportunities for kids and adults to learn about the wildlife in their own backyards.

Explore the Academy’s renowned dioramas, comparing these unique time capsules from the 1930s and 1950s to modern-day habitats.

Outside In: Around the World Saturday, October 9, 10 a.m.

Kids can enjoy a virtual trip around the world with Academy scientists and educators. We’ll explore the unique native habitats of our resident animal ambassadors.
