The second nine weeks of the 2023-2024 school year is upon us, and it is such an exciting time to be a Patriot. With school events back in full swing, we are finally feeling like we are returning to a sense of normalcy, while also maintaining safety both on and off campus. The second nine weeks is a busy time of year on campus, with students focusing on learning new content while simultaneously using assessment data to reflect and relearn things they may have missed from August to October. The time is now for students to focus on finishing strong in the classroom, where grades will finalize for the first semester when we leave for Winter Break. Our students and teachers are all working hard to make sure that learning is meaningful this year, something that we are all excited to be a part of after the last few years. The second nine weeks also brings about the end of our fall sports period, as well as the beginning of the winter sports. Our fall teams had a very successful campaign, being extremely competitive in boys and girls cross country, boys and girls bowling, boys and girls golf, boys and girls swimming, football, and our girls volleyball team. Our performing arts students have also had a busy year so far. Our marching band and Lake Brantley Dance Team competed in the Seminole County Marching Festival on October 21st and they stole the show! We are so proud of them and their accomplishments! Our Patriot Players drama department also is busy prepping for their winter show “Henry IV,” which will be performed in our state-of-theart Performing Arts Center. We are so excited for what our band, dance, drama, and chorus students have in store for us for the second semester! As we prepare for the second nine weeks at Lake Brantley, we are going to continue to build on the positive momentum that we have generated since the start of the school year. I am happy to announce that school-wide discipline numbers continue to trend continues on next page...

down, which helps us to keep kids in class and learning on a daily basis. And although we are seemingly just beginning our school year, The second nine weeks is when we update our annual Curriculum Guide, which dictates which classes we will be offering for the 2024-2025 school year. That, coupled with shoring up instruction to meet your child’s needs, will be our focus heading into the end of the semester and Winter Break. Thank you all so much for being a part of this wonderful community, and please let us know how we can continue to support you and your student through this year and beyond! Always a Patriot, Brian Blasewitz Principal

What's New with SGA? Let the good times roll! Our 2023 Homecoming Week was a major success! Student Government Association (SGA) worked passionately to plan and execute Homecoming Week. We designed a fun-filled spirit week, movie night, faculty soul food cook-off, parade, lunch games, pep rally, coronation ceremony, home football game, and dance! We had so much fun with our spirit days! Our students dressed up throughout the week as dynamic duos, spooky costumes, wacky tacky, kings and queens, and Mardi Gras madness. We hosted our Homecoming free outdoor movie night! We had 500 students and families attend to watch Disney Channel's The Princess and the Frog. It was a blast! We had a great time at this year's faculty soul-food cookoff! It was delicious and a fun time, and we thank everyone for participating! We were so glad to host the parade this year; it was terrific! We appreciate the 45+ amazing student clubs, organizations, and teams who created banners and floats to show their school spirit and promote themselves. We also thank our incredible judges: SCPS Executive Director of High Schools, Mr. Mike Rice, our LBHS Bookkeeper, Ms. Kristine Evans, and Mayor Pat Bates!

We hosted a fun pep rally that featured our student and faculty Homecoming court, with special performances from drumline, dance, and Step Team! This year's Homecoming Court was lovely, and the coronation ceremony was seamless. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the ceremony special. Thank you to the band and JROTC to make the ceremony more special! Also, a thank you to Mr. Brian Keyes for being a fantastic announcer! Finally, we were so excited to be able to host the Homecoming dance, and it was a huge success! After selling more than 1,400 pre-sale tickets, we had excellent attendance. A HUGE thank you to our fantastic PTSA volunteers for selling in-person tickets during both lunches and supporting all our initiatives. We also appreciate the selfless chaperones and our administrative team that committed to helping all their work to make this night run more smoothly. Our students were well-behaved and had a great night of fun dancing, entertainment, and food! Other initiatives that we planned and executed during the first semester included: pep rallies, beat Lake Mary spirit week, Inter-club Council meetings and conference, food drive benefitting Patriot Pantry, fall spirit week, winter spirit week, spring teacher appreciation week, and monthly student celebration awards! It was a busy semester! Follow us on Instagram @LBHS_SGA for more updates!
