A Message from the Principal
Dear Barron Collier Family, What a difference a year makes. This time last year we were all putting the pieces back together after Hurricane Irma. Thankfully, most BCHS families suffered only minor damage and came together as a community to help one another get back to normal as quickly as possible. As I mentioned last year, Barron Collier High School teachers and staff worked long and hard to ensure that our students had every opportunity to succeed. Their tireless effort and commitment made a tremendous difference in the lives of our students and continued to move our school forward. In spite of the Hurricane and other disruptions to the school year, our school grade increased 79 points over the previous year, our Graduating Seniors earned over $7.7 Million in scholarships, and our projected graduation rate increased nearly 5%. These are incredible accomplishments during a normal year. As the year progresses, please be reminded that we have a new traffic pattern, controlled access to our single-point of entry, a ban on bookbags and non-essential bags and purses at all sporting events, and enhanced emergency drills during school hours. These layers of security, along with a district-wide focus on Social Emotional Learning, are intended to provide a safe and nurturing learning and teaching environment for all stakeholders. I am extremely grateful and appreciative of the extra time, effort, and sacrifice both staff and students have contributed to help make Barron Collier High a school of excellence, which we can all be proud to call “home.” Their dedication and pride serves as a model for others to follow. One of our primary goals is to involve parents and the community in carrying out Barron Collier High School’s mission. In order to accomplish this lofty goal, I invite you to join us on the School Advisory Council, Academic Booster Club, Athletic Events, ...continued on next page

We received a lot of positive feedback for our new online voting method. Many thanks to all of you who cast your ballot. All-Sports Booster Club Dear Cougar Parents, The ASBC provides financial support to our school’s sports clubs beyond what the school is able to fund. This includes uniforms, equipment, supplies, as well as Senior athletic scholarships, trophies, awards, and the annual coaches banquet. All funding is raised through our yearly memberships, fundraisers (Texas Hold’Em, Trolley Restaurant Tour, and NEW Cornhole Tournament), merchandise sales, and football parking and program sales.
page6 ID Badges
Students have had their badges for over a month now and are doing rather well at wearing them. We just wanted to share a little bit about the process for students and ID badges. Students are not allowed to enter the classroom without a badge or sticker. When a student doesn’t have their ID badge they will be able to purchase a new one for the replacement cost of $3.00 and will need a lanyard as well which we sell for $2.00 or they may use their own lanyard. Students who are not able to purchase a badge/lanyard at that time will be given a sticker for the day. The student will have to pay .50 for the sticker.
Barron Collier has always had a policy against backpacks in the stadium but the entire district has now moved to a more stringent policy which prohibits anything larger than a clutch bag. Larger necessary bags such as diaper bags may be permitted but only after being searched at the entrance. This is for any event on campus at the stadium, gym or auditorium. We thank you in advance for assisting us in meeting this requirement so that we can quickly and easily get you through the gates and to your event.
Social Media Announcements
We encourage you and your students to follow us on Twitter (@barroncollier) or on Facebook so that you can stay up-to-date with the announcements and events happening on campus. We also use these tools to assist us in pushing out other important, fun and interesting information that happens at our school or in the district. We have had a great start to the year and have been able to reward our students for their many successes. We will continue to emphasize the positives that our students are doing this year and share those many successes on Twitter, Facebook and our website.

Activities Fall sports will be winding down soon. It’s hard to believe the regular season will coming to an end very quickly and preparation for post season State Series competition heats up. To keep advised of our most up to date schedules including post season play, please visit us at www.collierschools. com/bch and choose Activities then click on Calendar. You will find the calendar friendly and informative. Winter sports will be beginning practice on the following dates. For more information please contact the Activities Office. Girls’ Soccer Oct. 22 Coach Shanks Boys’ Soccer Oct. 22 Coach Nelson Girls’ Basketball Oct. 29 Coach Hamburg Boys’ Basketball Nov. 5 Coach Dunn Wrestling Nov. 12 Coach Partello We are continuing to use the electronic registration procedure to register our athletics. Athletes must be fully cleared before participation is permitted. Please go to www.athleticclearance.com, select the state of Florida, watch the video and follow the instructions for registration. More info can be found on the left side of our school website under Activities and selecting Sports. From there, all the forms are available to sign electronically by both parent and athlete or download as necessary. You will need to print out the FHSAA physical form to bring to the doctor. All physicals must be on this form. Afterwards, you can log back in to your account and upload the scanned document to the registration page. From each family’s account, you may register multiple children. If you have any questions please contact the Activities Office. If your student is not a member of a club there is still time to join! A list of clubs can be found on the website under Activities and selecting Clubs. We are almost finished updating the webpage due to more clubs being offered this year. Being involved in a club or a sport truly enhances the high school experience. Please encourage participation because these 4 years will pass very quickly. This will be the only chance your student will have to be a high school athlete or club member. We would love the support of all family and friends that make up #BCNation throughout the year. Your support at our athletic events is crucial to funding our sports programs throughout the year. The most economical way for our BCHS students to attend games is to purchase a Student All Sports Pass for only $25 in the bookkeeping office. Student admission is $3 per event so by attending 8 athletic events will pay for the pass for the year excluding post season FHSAA sanctioned competition. With this pass you will also always have something to do without worrying about how to pay for it. Please come out and be a fan! We’ll save a seat for you! Go Cougars!
