Battle of the Decades hell week (2)

Page 1

Welcome to Spring Sing 2026!

Get ready, OLP this year ' s Spring Sing is unlike anything you have seen before! We are thrilled to welcome you to Battle of the Decades, a spirited competition that will take us on a journey through four iconic eras of music, culture, and style Our Freshman class is bringing the energy of the 2000s, our Sophomores are owning the 90s, our Juniors are turning back the clock to the 80s, and our Seniors are closing out the night in the unforgettable spirit of the 70s. Four classes, four decades, one stage and only one class can take home the crown Let the battle begin!

The show you are about to witness is the product of weeks of focused, joyful effort Guided by their Spring Sing moderators, our students immersed themselves in their assigned decade researching the music, the movement, the mood and then built this production from the ground up They showed up after school day after day, worked through the chill and rain of a “San Diego” winter, and pushed one another to bring their very best to each rehearsal Each class poured its creativity and originality into every detail, and the result is a program that reflects the high standards that have always defined OLP's Spring Sing And yet, for all the friendly competition between the decades, what moved us most was the way our students lifted each other up along the way their spirit of collaboration a beautiful expression of our Christian values and the charism of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet, gathering in unifying love to carry this cherished tradition forward

None of this battle is won without the entire school community behind our students, and I am profoundly grateful for every member of this community Our administration, faculty, and staff provided the guidance and resources that made each rehearsal possible and helped our students rise to the occasion Our families were there for every decade of this journey arranging transportation, running carpool routes, and offering the steady encouragement that kept spirits high through the long weeks of preparation Your belief in your daughters was a gift they carried into every rehearsal And to our alumnae, some of you traveling great distances to be here tonight you are living proof that the love for OLP transcends every decade Your presence in these seats reminds us that no matter the decade, the bond between Pilots endures

Let the battle begin!

Welcome to our 56th Annual Spring Sing!

Every year I say this is my favorite tradition at OLP and every year I mean it more Spring Sing is chaotic, loud, slightly sleepdeprived, and absolutely magical It is 20 minutes per class of pure courage wrapped in choreography and glitter

This year ’ s theme Decades has taken us on a full-time-travel adventure From the first leadership meeting in the fall to our final dress rehearsal, these students have been building something far bigger than a musical They have been building community

One of my favorite things about Spring Sing today is how beautifully student-led it has become Our student team of Event Planners, Marketing Designers, Sound & Light Techs, Production Managers, Stage Managers, and countless behind-the-scenes heroes have stepped up in ways that make me both proud and slightly unnecessary (Just kidding mostly ) Watching them lead each other with confidence compassion and just the right amount of organized chaos has been a gift

Since October, our leaders have written scripts, run auditions, choreographed dances, managed props, solved tech disasters, mediated conflicts, and somehow still turned in their homework Once February hit, after-school practices took over the campus And through it all, they have shown what it truly means to be Women of Heart, Courage, and Faith

Spring Sing is technically a competition There are judges There are awards There is an overall winner and years of bragging rights But if you ask me, the real win is what happens offstage It’s the freshman who finds her voice in the chorus It’s the senior who mentors a sophomore she barely knew in September It’s the laughter during breaks, the pep talks before entrances, and the collective inhale before the curtain rises Sisterhood isn’t just a slogan here It is the engine that makes this whole glitter-covered machine run

I am especially honored to share this journey with Mrs Marentez as Assistant Director this year OLP alumnae coming back to pour into the next generation? That’s the good stuff Without her steady presence and support this show would not be possible

To our students: thank you for trusting me with your creativity, your stress, your brilliance, and yes, your very dramatic moments You have kept my heart full and my smart watch stress tracker concerned

To our families, alumnae, faculty, and friends: thank you for showing up and supporting this tradition that continues to evolve and soar

Now sit back, sing along (quietly unless you ’ re in chorus), and enjoy this celebration of talent, time travel, and the unstoppable power of OLP sisterhood

With love and so much pride, Anita Heveron (Nevin) ’00

Welcome to Spring Sing 2026!

Spring Sing is a very special annual tradition that holds a dear place in my heart As a proud OLP alum (Class of ’97) I remember the joy of participating and now the privilege of assisting the show’s director All of these memories and the lessons learned both as a student and faculty will stay with me forever

Mrs Heveron, thank you for taking me under your wing and teaching me what it takes to lead Spring Sing Being able to work with a fellow Pilot alum, has made the experience even more meaningful Your energy, leadership, and dedication has given me a deeper love and appreciation for this beautiful annual tradition at OLP

Students, I am so proud of all of you The true sisterhood you have shown throughout the season is inspiring The way you have overcome challenges and worked together is the true testament of sisterhood you lift one another up, collaborate with generosity, and bring out each other’s best Your heart, creativity, and dedication are remarkable I am especially impressed by how you balance academics, sports, and extracurriculars while pushing the show forward well done

This year ’ s theme, “Battle of the Decades,” is especially fitting No matter the obstacles this tradition has faced over the last 56 years, we are proud to see it continue As we time travel through each decade, we will feel nostalgia and be reminded of the boundless creativity and talent at OLP from actors and chorus to dancers, crew, and the many student leaders who have poured their hearts into this show Each performance is a tribute to past and present Pilots who have kept this tradition alive

Spring Sing has grown and evolved so much since my time as a student, yet its spirit remains unchanged Over the decades it has expanded in scope and ambition, embracing new ideas and broader student involvement Even more wonderful is how Spring Sing has become increasingly student‑led, giving Pilots real opportunities to develop and showcase leadership skills directing scenes, choreographing numbers, managing crews, and organizing logistics Watching students step into those roles, make decisions, and guide their peers is a powerful sign that this tradition not only entertains but also educates and empowers future leaders

Thank you to everyone who has continued to support and believe in this cherished tradition: alumni, families, friends, and the OLP community Your faith and dedication keep this celebration alive for each generation of Pilots

To OLP administration faculty and staff: thank you for your support and guidance that make this evening possible

No matter which class or decade takes this year ’ s title you have all demonstrated what it means to be champions: resilience teamwork creativity and heart Take pride in what you ’ ve accomplished together and carry that spirit forward into every classroom field and stage you step onto Keep soaring high Pilots tonight is YOUR night to SHINE!

With Much Love & Gratitude, Julia Tondo Marentez ’97

SHOW SUMMARY SHOW SUMMARY

This play follows a driven manager who, disillusioned with a perfection-obsessed music industry, takes a final gamble on building an authentic band out of artists who are incomplete on their own but powerful together. Told through past moments and a “present-day” interview taking place on TRL during peak 90s television, the story explores how raw truth, heart, ambition, and soul collide within a group bound by vulnerability and creative risk. This musical asks whether real success comes from manufactured images or from a true connection within.

SHOW SUMMARY SHOW SUMMARY

It is the class of 1976’s 50-year reunion, and 3 grandmothers reunite for the first time since graduation and take a groovy trip down memory lane. Through a series of flashbacks set to iconic 1970s jams, they relive everything from freshman dance lessons to senior year drama. As old friendships, conflicts, and choices resurface, so do the emotions they once tried to leave behind. But with the power of sisterhood, forgiveness, and the shared memory, they discover that some bonds, like disco, never truly fade.
