Linear Functions Unit Portfolio Task 1 A) For the first company, express in words the amount the cab company charges per ride and per mile. 

The first company, Uber, does not have an initial charge, and charges $2 per mile.

B) Write an equation in slope-intercept, point-slope, or standard form. Explain why you chose the form you did. 

Using the slope intercept form, the equation is Y = 2x + 0. I chose this form because it’s the easiest to graph.

C) What do the x-intercept and y-intercept mean in the context of this problem? Hint: What do you pay when you step into the cab? 

The x-intercept and y-intercept is the flat fee when you step in the cab. In this instance, Uber, does not have a fee for when you first step into the vehicle.

Task 2 For the second company. Express in a table the cost of the cab ride given the number of miles provided.

A) Create a table showing the average gas price each year.

C) What equation models the data? What are the domain and range of the equation? Explain how you determined your answers. 

There wouldn’t be an equation that represents the data, the price increases and decreases in a non-linear way.

The domain would be $3.64. The Range would be $1.34. I got these numbers by first looking at the largest price and looking at the lowest price. I then calculated the difference, and this got me the range.

D) Is there a trend in the data? Does there seem to be a positive correlation, a negative correlation, or neither? 

By what the scatter plot shows, the price seems to rise, fall back down, rise again, and fall back down once more.

So, there is no trend, and there is neither a positive nor a negative correlation.

How much do you expect gas to cost in 2020? Explain. 

I would expect the gas to maybe be at $2.50 a gallon since that is almost what the price of our gas is today.
