Link 1: Learning Azure Fundamentals: Introduction Azure is a Microsoft Cloud computing platform ever expanding set of services to help build solutions to build business goals. It provides Cloud-based services such as remote storage, database hosting, centralized management, and Artificial Intelligence.

What is Cloud Computing?

Cloud Computing is storing and accessing data and programs over internet instead of your computer’s hard drive. The services include servers, storing databases, networking, software analytics, and intelligence. In simple words, if you want to create a server but you do not want to own a infrastructure. Ex: Amazon Web Series.

Benefits of Cloud Computing: 1. You pay only for the resources you use.

2. You can request more storage if you need.

3. Reliability, Elasticity and Agility There are three cloud computing service models: 1. IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) – Cloud-base services, pay-as-you go such as storage, network, and vitalization. IaaS customers can control their own infrastructure and they do not need to be onsite. Examples are: Amazon Web Series, Microsoft Azure 2. PaaS (Platform as a service) – Hardware and Software tools available on the internet. It provides developers with a framework they can use to build custom applications. Examples: Google App Engine, OpenShift.

3. SaaS (Software as a service) – Software that’s available via third party over the internet. Examples are: JIRA, Dropbox.

What is Azure?

Azure is expanding set of cloud services the help meet current and future business challenges. It also gives freedom to build, manage and deploy applications on global network using tools and frameworks.

Azure uses technology virtualization. Virtualization separates the tight coupling between the hardware and operating system using an abstraction layer using hypervisor.

Azure services include: Compute, Networking, Storage, Mobile, Databases, Web, And Artificial Intelligence.

Let us start with creating an Azure Account: You can purchase Azure access directly from Microsoft by signing up on the Azure Website. Also, you can get a free Azure account and get free access for 12 months, and a credit for 30 days. Sign up using credit card (used for identity verification only), phone number and Microsoft account.

Now create a WordPress Website Step 1: Sign into Azure Portal.

Step 2: Now on the top left of Azure Portal. Select Create a Resource.

Step 3: This option will take you to Azure Marketplace then in marketplace search for WordPress.

Step 4: Then click on WordPress it will show up with the app and then click on create to begin process to create a WordPress app.

Step 5: After clicking on create several options will appear to configure your deployment. Enter values as shown in the screenshot. You can fill any app name and make sure you select Database provider ‘MySQL In App.’

Step 6: Then go to App Service Plan/Location and click on create new.

Step 7: The new App Service Plan pane will appear. Select Central US so we choose the region that will allow service plan we choose.

Step 8: Now select pricing tier, Spec Picker pane will appear. The pane opens to Production tab and S1 tier selected. We need to select the new pricing tier from Dev/Test tab for our website. Select F1 pricing tier from Dev/ Test tab and then select Apply.

Step 9: Then go back to New App Service plan pane and select OK to create new plan. Finally, select create to start deployment of your new site.

Verify your website is running.

The deployment of a new website can take few minutes to complete.

Step 1: Select the notifications bell icon on the top right of the azure portal. You can select deployment in progress to see the details about all the resources created.

Step 2: Then after few minutes the deployment status will change to deployment succeeded. Select Go to resource to go the App Service overview.

Step 3: Now find URL in the Overview section and then copy the URL by selecting Copy to Clipboard icon at the end of URL.

Step 4: Open a new tab in the browser, paste the URL, and press ENTER to browse new WordPress site.

Now you can configure WordPress site and add content.

Link 2: AZURE SQL: 1) Deploying Azure SQL database using Azure portal Step 1: From the Home tab of Azure portal search for Azure SQL. It will take you to SQL database panel.

Then click on create in SQL deployment option. Then give a database name and create a new server and select an appropriate location.

Step 2: Next go to Networking tab from the top panel to select how you want people to connect with this.

Select the public endpoint and allow azure services and resources to access the server and add current client IP address. This will make sure that the virtual machine will have access to logical server.

Step 3: Next open additional settings and select Sample and my sample here is AdventureWorksLT.

Step 4: If you want you can also add tags and then select create. This will start with the deployment and will take 2 to 3 minutes. After the deployment is complete you can go the resource tab. You have to copy the server name from the resources tab.

Step 5: Now download SSMS. And Connect the Azure Portal with SSMS. How to connect?

Open SSMS and paste the copied server name is the given place and give SQL server as authentication.

Then give a username and password. Then click on connect and azure portal will be connected as shown in the screenshot.

Step 6: We can also run classic query which will show that SSMS is connected with Azure portal by right clicking on kirat database and then select new query.

2) Verify deployment queries: Azure SQL database

Step 1: Download Azure Data Studio. Then connect to Azure portal with Azure Data Studio.

Step 2: By using a query we will see if the connection between data studio and azure portal is active. By using standard query as we have done with SSMS. (SELECT @@VERSION;)

Step 3: By using next query. We can get the specific type of Azure SQL deployment. The number returned is one of the possible options below: 1.

In the given screenshot below the number returned is 5. So, the type of deployment is SQL Database.

Step 4: By using sys.databases we can see what databases are in use and their properties, sys.objects shows the system tables and objects.

Step 5: Now by using the following query you can see how many CPU you have access to.

Step 6: By using the query sys.dm_exec_requests we can do sanity check and verification in the deployment.

3) Configure Azure SQL with Azure CLI Done repair 4 times but still pops up the error (not working)

4) Using Bulk insert to load data from Azure Blob storage Step 1: Create a table using the following query.

Step 2: Create a MASTER KEY

Step 3: Create a Database Scoped Credential

Step 4: Create an external data source to container.

Step 5: Bulk Insert a Single File Note: I do not have enough file access rights as shown in the screenshot so, cannot bulk load.

Step 6: To check rows inserted. No file inserted so, 0 rows.

5) Network Security for Azure SQL Database Steps : Go to SQL server, open Firewall, and virtual Network the make the following changes and select save.

6) Azure Active Directory Authentication for Azure SQL Step 1: Open SQL server. Then from the list of settings select Active Directory Admin. Select Set Admin and then find yourself using your email. Then go ahead and save.

Step 2: Now log into Azure SQL database logical server using SSMS. And give access to other people using SSMS.

Step 3: Also, I can create a user in database using the following query to access data.

7) Confirm TDE is enabled.

Step 1: Open SQL Database. Then from the security section open Transparent Data Encryption.

The data encryption by default is already enabled.

Step 2: Open SQL Server. Then from the security section open Transparent Data Encryption.

Then make the following changes as shown and select save.

8) Configure Auding for Azure SQL database Step 1: Open SQL Database. Select Auditing from security. Click on view server settings.

Step 2: Turn Auditing ON. Also, in additional settings you can change the number of days you want to keep the data.

Step 3: Click on save. Then again open Auditing and as a result Auditing will be enabled.

9) Azure SQL Security Management Note: No access to Advance Security Options.

10) Data Classification, Dynamic Data Masking and SQL Auditing Note: No access given to data classification Step 1: Open SQL Database. Select Dynamic Data Masking from Security.

Step 2: Select Add mask

Step 3: Enter the given values and save.

Step 4: No access given to dashboard in Auditing.

11) Monitor and Scaling Performance in Azure SQL Step 1: Open SSMS. To check the workload, use the query.

Step 2: Query to see resource usage. I am using only 0.03 percent of CPU for azure as shown below.

Step 3: Click on Top Resource Consuming queries to check high resource consuming query.

Step 4: Scaling Workload Performance from SQL Database. Select overview.

12) Azure SQL Intelligent Performance Step 1: Open SQL Database. Click on Query Performance Insight.

13) Check Audit Records Step 1: Open SQL Database. Click on Auditing.

Step 2: Click on view server settings.

14) Geo-distributed Auto-failure Groups Azure SQL Database Step 1: Open Azure Data Studio. Change the Kernel to PowerShell.

Step 2: Create an empty Azure SQL database server in the failure region.

Step 3: Create a failover group between servers.

Step 4: Add database to the failover group.

Step 5: Configure the network

Step 6: Configure the application Step 7: Run the application Step 8: Initiate a failover

Step 9: Go to SQL server in the azure portal and click on failover groups to check the failover groups you have created.

Overall , gained knowledge for the azure portal, SSMS, Azure Data Studio and cloud computing.
