In November of 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, a committee invited President Abraham Lincoln to give a "few appropriate remarks'' at the dedication of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg. The famed Battle of Gettysburg had been fought the previous in July, with the North defeating the South in a three-day clash that left tens of thousands of soldiers — from both the Union and the Confederacy — dead and wounded. In January of that same year, Lincoln had issued the Emancipation Proclamation, adding purpose to the war: to eradicate slavery.

Read Lincoln's speech carefully. Then, in a well-developed essay, analyze the rhetorical techniques he uses to achieve his purpose.

With more than fifty-thousand American soldiers being killed and wounded and the three-day event at Battles of Gettysburg, which was fought in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania between July 1-3 1863. The battle was held due to the ongoing civil war between the Confederates and the Union. After the three horrific days, the current president during that time Abraham Lincoln Conducted a speech in honor of losing that battle. With this speech, President Lincoln was able to bring thousands of U.S citizens together to inspire and lean towards positive actions towards democracy. With the speech Lincoln made,​ The Gettysburg Address​ included many rhetorical devices that were included, as repetition, metaphor as well as a call to action. With these devices being perfectly used together in unison, just like how President Lincoln gave, it changed the course of American History and it ignited the patriotism that every one American has in their soul. Not only did it change history but brought a national spirit forth.

One device that was used during the speech was a metaphor. In the​ Gettysburg Address​, it was brought forth the metaphor and concept of birth on many occasions. Taken from the text, “​that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” ​(Gettysburg Address paragraph 3) With this quote, Lincoln used metaphor to show Americans to compare it to a new beginning, a new change to democracy and freedom as they know it. Lincoln discusses as well from the text “conceived in liberty”, which he is meaning that all men are created equal. The use of this metaphor gives new hope to the nation and the civilians living in it, one everyone needs coming from a very dark and disturbing war and battle.

With using repetition, ​The Gettysburg Address ​uses it to lighten and mark how Lincoln believes the ideal nation should be operating. ​“and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” ​(Gettysburg Address paragraph 3), with Lincoln speaking in this quote by repeating people. This shows his focus on how he desires to see America and its nation in unison together, that all are equal, and we are the same, instead of

fighting with each other apart. He believed that all were created equal and all should obtain the same freedom. The Civil War played a magnifying part in American freedom for all.

As the number of troops started to drop in the Union Army, President Lincon needed to make a call to action to bring together morale as well as increase the number of troops. With stating the idea of how exactly the tragedies inflicted on the battlefield and the numbers of lives lost if the fighting side would not result in a change. In his final attempt to ​endeavor the growing Confederacy, he designated a broken nation with a vision for patriotism to consummate a nation. “​It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain”​(Gettysburg Address paragraph 3). This quotation shows exactly how Lincoln and his peers turned into a call to action in the​ Gettysburg Address​. “​Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.”

Was the beginning of turning around the Civil War in favor of the Union Army, leading with President Abraham Lincoln. The start of his address brought hope to the thousands of mothers and daughters who lost their husbands, sons, brothers, and spouses. To bring hope to the nation as a whole to look past this to the unison of a nation, together in one. With paying respect to the one who whimpered on the fallen ones, Lincoln delivered a time-changing speech. With this speech conducting many rhetorical devices which shook the nation, there was a metaphor, repetition, call to action, etc. As of these devices the should the nation the idealism of a new government ​“of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.” ​which has changed the nation in eternity.

2. Employers often run what's called a "background check" to find out more information about a prospective employee. Background checks usually include details about a person's criminal, legal, and credit history, previous addresses and employers, education, and possibly driving records. However, background checks cannot be run without the candidate's approval.

Though the practice of running a background check before a hire is becoming more and more common, many people believe it is a violation of privacy. Employers believe it is essential to ensure the veracity of résumés and to weed out untrustworthy candidates.

In a well-developed essay, take a position on the issue of employers running background checks. Support your position with appropriate evidence from your readings, experience, or observations.

When functioning with the majority of the population has become an integral part of daily life, confidentiality is now a big aspect. Over the last couple of decades, contractors have hired candidates not only from their summaries and interviews but also from networking websites for background inspections. It reached the point that your job and privacy are not distinguished because anything shared can be used against an employee while looking for jobs.

Is it a breach of its secrecy to turn an applicant's details apart, or does an administrator look too deeply into an applicant's background?

Before employing a candidate, the number of workers who search background pages grows annually. In 2011, 75% of analysts and employers in the United States indicated that their businesses have been obliged to perform internet analysis into the employees they are recruiting, according to a new Microsoft study. The claimant database is searched on many pages. In a 2013 survey, it was concluded that 91% of employers had already used history sites to identify a recruit. In just two years, the number of workers checking was more than 15 percent higher.

With employees looking into an individual’s past criminal records, their choice of religion, their gender, their age, and many more. Bigotry in work laws was apparent when it comes to saying that discrimination in jobs is unethical and unlawful. Companies cannot lawfully discriminate against individuals (applicant or employee) "because of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender (as well as marriage, gender preference, childbirth), the nationality of origin, age, inability or genetic mutations. In particular, companies are not allowed to discriminate against persons.

Background checks can and do make errors. The documentation was, after all, produced, collected, recorded, examined, and confirmed by flawed people in a background check. It is also critical that employers encourage applicants to verify negative details before any undesirable steps are taken. When a candidate discovers material that is missing or incorrect in a background check report, the supervisor should be told immediately. If mistakes have been made in the background check, the applicant would usually have to call the initial source ( past employer, education, court officer, etc.) and request correction of the records.

I do believe background checks help the employer to a certain degree, if and only they are approved by the candidate being employed of it’s a violation of privacy. Background checks help improve a business and its employers. A study carried out by the Department of Justice in the United States found 1.75 million workdays suffered by perpetrators of harassment in the workplace last year. The missed wages cost about $55 million annually. If less immediate, however far-reaching, costs of missed production, litigation costs, or a decreased brand profile are taken into consideration, the annual costs of violence in the workplace may exceed billions.

As employees have a moral or ethical duty to ensure a safe workplace atmosphere, it helps the owner to establish adequately whether a candidate is fit for employment or the company environment by understanding if a prospective employee has engaged in illegal or dishonest conduct (– for example, narcotics or other substance misuses, stealing, fraud or unsafe and aggressive behaviors). Tracking helps an employer to assess more precisely if another employee or client is threatened.

A few think about whether security checks are a breach of privacy. Many background checks merely validate details on the resume and/or work application submitted by the candidate.

Sadly, many lie about their skills and qualifications. Employers have a legal obligation and duty to validate evidence submitted by the applicant and they have the legal obligation to provide staff, clients, and members of the public with a safe workplace. But that doesn’t mean to discriminate against an individual about their past mistakes, and own personal choices.

3.As the world becomes more technologically savvy, social media platforms become increasingly important and influential in the political realm.

Many controversies and incidents that existed underneath the ground for many years have been made known to the average man. In keeping in touch with the prominent leaders in the world of politics, the media has played a crucial role in hooking them with the checklist package. While the media is approaching too vigorously to keep up with the wish list of their audiences and readers, in evaluating the party and the candidates for the coming elections, this has also proven wise to the average man. In the world of politics, media consciousness has spread a lot and people are now actively engaged in understanding the state of politics and its patterns. Public leaders and candidates have been made more responsible and open to voters by the proliferation of social media in politics. And the opportunity to post content and distribute it to millions of individuals immediately enables campaigns to handle the photographs of their candidates carefully in real-time and at virtually no expense, based on rich collections of analytics.

One explanation of why social media is successful is that millennial voters are involved.

Elderly Individuals usually appear to make up the highest share of electors who voluntarily go to the polls. Yet younger voters were energized by Twitter and Facebook, which, in essence, had a profound effect on the polls. Without first understanding how their legislative statements or moves would play out in the public, leaders and candidates do almost little. Both Twitter and Facebook help us to gauge immediately how the public is reacting to a concern or dispute. Then, without using strong lobbyists or intensive polls, policymakers will change their campaigns accordingly, in real-time.
