Wayne McGregor Introduction Wayne McGregor is a British choreographer and director who has won several awards. McGregor was born in 1970 in the English town of Stockport. He studied dance at the José Limon School in New York and at Bretton Hall College at the University of Leeds. He was named Choreographer-inResidence at The Place in London in 1992, and he launched Random Dance the same year which then became known as Company Wayne McGregor. In 2002, Wayne McGregor was asked to join the new Sadler's Wells as a Resident Company. He is the Royal Ballet's first Resident Choreographer with a contemporary dance experience, having been appointed in 2006. McGregor was named the Venice Biennale's Director of Dance through 2024 in 2021. 1 Background Globally recognized for pioneering performance ideas that have revolutionized dance in the modern era. His explorations have brought him into collaborative discussion with a variety of artistic forms, scientific methods, and technological interventions, inspired by an obsessive enthusiasm for motion and its unique possibilities. For almost twenty-five years, the striking and multi-dimensional works that come from these exchanges have kept McGregor at the forefront of modern art. McGregor launched Random Dance in 1992, and it has now evolved into Studio Wayne McGregor to embrace his vast creative efforts in domains both outside and in relationship with dance. Company Wayne McGregor's dancers were the basic medium through which McGregor developed his unique visual approach, displaying the body's movement capabilities in ever more accurate levels of expression. choreography, presenting his work throughout the UK and the globe. Company Wayne McGregor is a member of Sadler's Wells' Resident Company.

Areas of Exploration McGregor's choreographic inquiry into understanding through and with the body is powered by Studio Wayne McGregor. Company Wayne McGregor, his own travelling dance company; innovative partnerships in dance, cinema, music, artistic expression, tech, and sciences; and highly specialized education, participation, and research programs are all part of it. Studio Wayne McGregor moved into its own freshly developed studio space at Here East in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in March 2017, a shared place for making where the world's most creative minds can exchange information and invent and develop something together. The most significant ballet organizations in the world, including the Paris Opera Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, Australian Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and the Royal Danish Ballet, often invite McGregor to create new choreography.

He's a sought-after choreographer for theatre such as Donmar Warehouse, Old Vic, National Theatre, Royal Court, opera like English National Opera, La Scala, Royal Opera House, film as for example Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Tarzan, Fantastic Beasts film series, Sing, Mary Queen of Scots, music videos including Radiohead, Atoms for Peace, The Chemical Brothers, fashion like Soma for COS, Gareth Pugh at London Fashion Week 2015 and 2017, and of course television. 2

degrees from the Universities of Leeds and Chester. McGregor is also a Doctor of the University of the Arts London. At King's College London, he belongs to the Circle of Cultural Fellows. The British Science Association granted upon him an Honorary Fellowship in 2017. In 2018, McGregor was named the most important person in London's Progress 1000 celebration. McGregor received the Prix de Lausanne's Lifetime Achievement Award in 2021. John Tavener, Audrey Niffenegger, Jamie xx, Max Richter, Olafur Eliasson, Kaija Saariaho, Lucy Carter, Ben Frost, Jlin, Thom Yorke, Mark Wallinger, Random International, Jon Hopkins, John Pawson, and Mark-Anthony Turnage are among the many artists who have collaborated with McGregor over the course of more than two decades of participatory multi-disciplinary work.
