“How I Learned to Love Snapchat” “Summary” The article “How I Learned to Love Snapchat” is written by “Jenna Wortham”. The article discusses, as the name suggests, about how the writer developed her love for Snapchat, “which is a multimedia messaging app used globally, created by Evan Spiegel, Bobby Murphy, and Reggie Brown, former students at Stanford University”. First, the author tells us about the invention of text messages through phone in mid-80’s and later in 2007, how they got surpassed by phone calls, making phone calls, the preferred way of communication in the world. Finically text messages had so many restrictions, like one could not send a message longer than 160 characters. Then she described how this technological socializing has benefited humanity by bridging long communication gaps, and also made humans, less social in reality.

According to the author, text messages were not able to communicate effectively, and considered it an imperfect and incomplete technology. She said that the only things that can communicate with emotions is the animations, textures and images, all of which are available in snapchat. Snapchat is uncredited as it should be depending upon how important work it does, many people overlook its effectiveness. Then she talks about some important features of snapchat, such as typing indicator and read receipts. Which are blessing and disguise at the same time. For example, where read receipts bring convenience if the receiver has received the text, it also puts someone in depression as he/she can know if the other individual is ignoring his/her texts. She has also blamed autocorrect technology for reducing the number of texts one can send or type. She has mentioned voice messages, which is an ultra-update of voice mails, and they have helped her fulfilling her needs of texting.

Furthermore, she talks about the introduction of emojis to the world and how Apple Inc. introduced it as a part of IOS update in 2011. Emojis, according to her are a better way of communicating emotions and projecting love, grief, humor and sarcasm. In the start, there only static emojis which are now used as professional emojis in business and informal emojis these days, have so many colors and features. She says that snapchat has changed or brought revolution in the way how people communicate with each other. Snapchat is leading the way in making communication more effective by introducing short templates, filters and video effects.

The writer also admires the fun emojis of Snapchat. This articles also highlights the usage of snapchat that in the early years, it was mostly used by youngsters. When it was initially launched, people assumed it as a nude sharing app for horny teenagers. But it has increased its number of users since then, making it even more popular. Moreover, people use it to share different types of pictures according to their wants and choice. The writer adds that she could see her favorite people on the large screen with ease with the help of Snapchat, which even added in her love for snapchat.

She has described snapchat like the most precious as unique app and has so many built in features which other similar socializing applications like twitter, Instagram, and Facebook do not have. The article says that this app lets someone be him/her self, unlike any other social app.

Snapchat is just an application which let people to share their life’s daily and precious moments with their loved ones with just a single click, while offering so many built in creative ideas.
