THINGS TO CONSIDER WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO? Will it be deserts and dunes, the rush of water at Victoria Falls or an East African safari? Africa has an enormous range of places to see and adventures to experience. The biggest highlight of visiting Africa is naturally its diverse wildlife and cultures. Most of our itineraries visit at least one game park, just look out for the game viewing icon. Africa is blessed with stunning landscapes, rivers, lakes, forests, jungles, mountains and valleys - each offering a unique insight to its immense beauty. HOW DO YOU WANT TO TRAVEL?

WHY ADVENTURE OR SAFARI PASS? Most tours have either an optional or mandatory Adventure or Safari Pass which is paid to your tour leader in Africa at the beginning of the tour, or pre-paid by arrangement prior to your tour. This is separate and additional to the Tour Price, which is paid before travel, and is paid in the currency listed on the website (usually US Dollars). The Adventure Pass covers selected park entries, activities and excursions along the way where payment goes directly to the supplier. The purpose of the separate payment is to ensure local suppliers benefit directly from the income.

Do you love the adventure of roughing it a little or need a comfortable bed at the end of the day? We have a range of tour styles to suit your needs. See page 4/5 to find out which is best for you.

WHAT IF I AM A SOLO TRAVELLER? No problem. Our group tours consist mainly of people travelling alone who are looking to share an adventure with new friends. Single supplements may apply on selected tours, however on most we’ll match you up with a traveller of the same gender.

IS IT FAMILY FRIENDLY? Some of our small group safaris are suitable for families but not specifically tailored for them. There is a mixture of people on tour as the nature of the tour is suited to a wide range of ages. See the tour info section on each tour for the minimum and maximum age requirements.

ARE DATES GUARANTEED? Acacia Africa guarantees tour departures on a continual basis, throughout the year. For more information on which dates are guaranteed, refer to our website www.acacia-africa.com, select the tour you would like to do, and view the dates and prices tab.

WANT TO EXTEND YOUR STAY? To extend your time at the start or end of your tour, talk to us or your agent. We’re happy to help arrange extra night’s accommodation and airport transfers, or extend your trip if you’re having such a good time you’d like to continue on.

Where to go?

Getting around Africa is not easy. Acacia has been operating tours in Africa for over 21 years and takes great pride in offering clients a variety of transport styles to give the best comfort and group size for the tour booked. Small Group Safaris and Short Safaris & Treks make use of 4x4’s, mini-vans, and micro-buses. Camping & Accommodated Overland Tours operate using customised Overland Safari Trucks.

Acacia Overland Trucks are named after a river in Africa - Chobe, Zambezi, Kafue, White Nile, Mara and more!

Our Vehicles Overland Safari Trucks are integral to the Overland experience. They are robust, sturdy, custom-built vehicles – designed and built to withstand harsh African conditions and poor roads and yet provide a comfortable ride with maximum viewing opportunities. Our trucks are regularly serviced at our workshop in Cape Town and at selected depots before and after each tour so they remain in top condition. Each truck carries a maximum of 24 clients (plus 2 crew), in soft cushioned seats; most are forward facing, and some back facing with a table in between.

Overland Safari Trucks have large sliding windows, which mean you get as much (or as little) fresh air as you want plus great views from the elevated seating position means you have better viewing of the scenery as we travel. Everyone gets their own locker to store personal items which means that you don’t have to bother with unloading your backpack each night we set up camp.

In selected National Parks, such as Etosha and Addo, we view wildlife from the comfort of our truck where height advantage is important, but in most game parks we arrange local experts and smaller vehicles for high quality game-driving. Smaller game vehicles give the benefit of local driver knowledge and with greater maneuverability, means we can get to those areas in the park where a larger truck or even a bus - simply cannot reach.

Our Small Group Safari vehicles vary depending on where you are: In East Africa, we use 4x4 land cruisers or micro-buses with pop-up roofs for the best game viewing; in Southern Africa, we have a range of up to 12 seat buses, mini-vans and 4x4s depending on the area. Most Small Group tours operate with a minimum of two people and carry a maximum of up to 12 people – allowing for regular departures (weekly or more frequent in high season) with friendlier smaller open age group travel.

Experience Africa

Our tours offer camping and accommodation options. Whether you’re considering a one or two week Small Group Safari or an extended Overland trip, you’ll stay in a variety of unique, rustic, even quirky African locations along the way. Camps in East Africa and Mozambique tend to be more rustic with fewer facilities, due to their remote location or limited local infrastructure while those in southern Africa generally offer a more well-rounded style of accommodations. WiFi is available

at some lodges and camps, although it may be limited to the communal areas allowing you to ‘sign-out’ for a digital detox along the way. Most camps offer a bar and many have a pool for cooling off on those hot African days. On our camping tours, you’ll need to bring along your own sleeping bag, pillow (if you want one) and towel; on our accommodated tours we’ll supply the bed linen and you’ll still need to bring along your own towel. On our accommodated

overland tours you’ll still stay under canvas at select locations where the experience simply cannot be missed, like staying the night at Spitzkoppe or in the Serengeti National Park. Our overland tours and select small group safaris are participation tours, which means you get to join in, help with the meal preparation and campers get to set up their own tent each day.

The people who make it all happen. There’s a driver who ensures that you get safely to the next rest stop while catching enough of Africa’s beauty on the way. Then there’s the tour leader, your source of interesting tour information for venues, tips and tricks on efficient camp-building and breaking, and a bottomless well of games and activities to suit all tastes! As well as the facilitators of revelry, they’ll also deal with authorities, fix the loose screws on the trucks, manage the tour logistics and help organise the food so you can wow your fellow travellers with some legendary cooking along the way.

Your truck is your home for the length of your overland tour. It’s a home that will climb mountains and traverse deserts with you in it, all the while keeping your drinks and food fresh and your body wellcushioned before arriving at your camp for the next overnighter. And remember – travelling overland is not something that happens to you; it’s something you help to make happen. The Crew look to you for help in setting up camp, shopping for food, preparing meals and generally help make it a smooth ride. Don’t worry it isn’t difficult and there’s always plenty of people around. The reason overlanding works so well is because of passenger participation. Join in – you’ll find it adds to your trip experience.

FOR 18-39’s You’re on the road for days in a purpose built safari vehicle suited for the rugged African terrain, full of good company and cheer, taking the good times through the deserts, mountains, savannahs and cities of southern and east Africa. At each stop – once you’ve got your tent up, bed down, supper cooked, games played, drinks chilled, food wolfed down and campfire lit – you find yourself spending your evenings in some of the most beautiful places in the world, letting the chatter flow with a whole host of new and like-minded travellers.

We have the finest custom built overland vehicles in our fleet, all equipped with the necessary cushions for the body, and a freezer and cool boxes for food and refreshments. On top of that, you’ve got USB ports to charge up cameras and mp3 players so you can plug in and chill out when you need to. There are book exchanges to swap out reading material and ample time to stop off along the way and enjoy some outdoor games with which to shake off the rust and build up an appetite and thirst at your next stop. Each traveller gets their own luggage locker.

The campsites along the way are generally furnished with enough creature comforts to keep you sane, while being remote enough to let you know you’re very much on an African adventure. Some have a bar and swimming pool, others – such as those in the Okavango – will consist of just you, the tent, and nature. But the common denominator in all of these will be your ability to lay back and see the beauty of Africa unfold. Tents – if you feel you need protection from the sensational starry nights – Our tents are sturdy 2-man dome tents made from durable canvas with sewn-in ground sheets. Tents are super easy to set up and we supply a foam sleeping mattress so all you’ll need to bring along is your own sleeping bag and pillow – we have the rest covered!

Our Accommodated Overland tours still keep the essence of Overlanding and combine with our camping itineraries offering the same level of excitement and adventure - but days end with a night in a comfortable lodge or tented camp. Where available, we’ve selected the more superior form the accommodation available at each stop - so there’s no shared dorms. We still spend some nights under canvas owing to the remote locations of these spectacular highlights, and we’ll supply your tent, sleeping bag and pillow for these nights. Accommodation varies from the comfortable ensuite to the rustic with shared facilities. Solo travellers get paired up with same gender travellers.

Kilimanjaro

At 5895m high, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest peak rising above the East African plains. It is also the highest free standing mountain in the world and one of the highest peaks you can scale without technical expertise. Which Route? Where to Start? Once you have decided which route you want to trek, you can then tailor your booking to your requirements. Our basic trek starts from Moshi, however you may find it more cost effective to fly into Nairobi, in neighbouring Kenya, and we can book one of the regular daily shuttle services to Moshi. If you have the time, we recommend that you select the extra acclimatisation day as this increases your chances of reaching the summit by allowing your body get accustomed to the altitude.
