The carnauba means and guarantees employment, income and sustainability to rural producers, even in the most challenging times in the Caatinga. According to the State of Ceará Development Agency (ADECE, as per its acronym in Portuguese), carnauba wax has been exported for more than 150 years, it was among the ten most commercialized products outside the country and is still among the most exported by Ceará. Carnauba: Tree of life Long-lived and with multiple uses, it earned the nickname "tree of life". Present in the coat of arms of Ceará, it became the symbol-tree of the State in 2004. It was first described in 1648 by European pioneers, who identified in the Copernicia prunifera a source of wax of great quality for the manufacture of candles.
