ABUNDANT LIFE FAITH CENTRE

Editor’s Note

As we transition from one year to another, it is a good time to pause, reflect, and realign. Reflect on the year that has passed and set yourself with great expectations for the year ahead. This season can be seen as a time for repositioning and re-evaluation. As we set our goals for the new year, it is essential to intentionally seek God’s guidance and align ourselves with His will and purpose for our lives. One way we do this is by dedicating time to pray.

Prayer is the lifeline of a believer – the way we stay connected to our source. If we hope to make a lasting impact in this life, we must remain connected to the true vine. As Jesus says in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing.” This reminds us of our need for God’s divine enablement. A person grounded in prayer is grounded in life.

The Bible affirms the power of prayer to guide, instruct, comfort, and teach us. It encourages us to pray continually, and this should be our posture. We can find solace in God’s assurance that He will never leave us nor forsake us. No matter the situations we face in life, we have the confidence that He hears us when we call. “Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God.” (Philippians 4:6AMP)

Mark 11:24ESV

Kasenge, Kinaawa | Kasenge, Kinaawa| For over a decade, Titus had plots of land but not the documentation of them. He pursued these documents for all along while but never made actual progress as he was always tossed about. Along the way, Titus got married, and as a family, they continued to pray about the matter. One day, in prayer, as Titus was taking to God about the issue, he got a prompting to command divine order over the situation; and to command the release of every land title. He then called one of the landlords of the plots. This call led them into a fruitful meeting. Together, they went to the Land Board, fulfilled the obligations, and Titus received his land title. He and his wife continued to pray concerning the other plots. Unlike many other times, the Real Estate company responded positively and showed them the way to retrieve and get hold of the documentation. And they did! When they went to check on the land, they found it free from encroachment despite the many years it was out of use. They honour God for preservation of their portion.

Kabowa Makindye | While at the drugstore, Moses observed that the attendant was not well. He engaged her in conversation and discovered she was three weeks past her due date of delivery. She was scheduled for a caesarean procedure, but she dreaded it. Moses prayed with her, and invited her to join him in trusting God for a normal delivery despite the situation. Four days later, the lady gave birth to a healthy baby girl. All glory to God.

Moses also testifies of the Lord’s preservation. As a custom, Moses thanks God for the gift of life daily. On this particular day, God led him to pray for protection. While returning from watching a football match with friends, he noticed suspicious men charging through the crowd towards their direction. One of them grabbed a lady’s handbag and beat her to the ground. Moses kept praying for divine protection in his heart. Sensing danger, he motioned to his friends to stop moving. A short while before them, one of the suspicious men jumped and kicked a gentleman to his death before their eyes. Moses thanks God for covering and preserving their lives amidst the crowd.

SEEKING GOD BY SERVING OTHERS SEEKING GOD BY SERVING OTHERS

The adventure of seeking God is like a toolbox in which are different tools, each fit for a particular purpose. If one tool is missing, the toolbox is not complete and we may be unable to fulfill a certain function that requires that tool.

One of those tools is the not so much liked tool called “service.” Very often we prefer to be served because we perceive those who serve as being at the bottom. Jesus however seems to have a different view. He regards the greatest as the one who is a servant to others. “But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant” (Mathew 23:11).

Peter also reminds us the reason we have been given gifts is not to be puffed up by them but rather to serve others “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10)

The story of Joshua is an inspiring one on how service leads to elevation. Joshua is referred to as Moses’ aid – someone who served and aided Moes (Exodus 33:11). But it is from this that we see Joshua elevated: “So the LORD said to Moses, “Take Joshua son of Nun, a man in whom is the spirit of leadership, and lay your hand on him”. (Numbers 27:18)

Again, we see another picture of Ruth and Naomi. Ruth refused to stay in her home country and chose to go with and take care of her mother-in-law Noami who was old at this time. “But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God”. (Ruth 1:16) As a result of her action, she finds herself becoming the great grandmother of the great king David and she also finds herself in the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah.

Another story is that of Elisha and Elijah. During the time of Elijah, Elisha was only known as the man who poured water for Elijah’s hands, meaning he was Elijah’s servant (2 Kings 3:11). But when the time for Elijah to go was at hand, even though there was a full school of prophets, guess who took over the office of Elijah? Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet. (1 Kings 19:16)

Moving to the New Testament, we see fishermen and a tax collector and a few others, 12 men in total, leaving their work and choosing to follow and serve Jesus. As a result, later when Jesus has ascended, the twelve carried on the work of the ministry in great power as Jesus Himself had been doing: “Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.” (Mathew 16:20)

Our last example is of those who were chosen to serve tables. The church at that time had grown and there was a need to serve food in a way that ensures everyone got a good share. They chose some men to do this so that the apostles could be freed up to engage in spreading the gospel (Acts 6:3-5). However, from these seven, we see God later using Stephen and Philip, for example, to preach the gospel with great signs and wonders.

Again, seeking God is how we can come into the fullness of what He has for us, and there is a way of service that leads us to that destiny. Where has the Lord placed you? How can you serve the leadership and others? It is time to see how to get involved in the commission God has given to the local assembly that you are a part of. Get in there, serve the Lord, serve the leadership, and serve His people. When the time is right, you too will be brought into your destiny.

Prayer

Are you ready for a relationship with Jesus as your Lord and Savior? It begins with a simple prayer in faith. Here is one you can repeat out loud enough to hear yourself: Dear God, I accept your forgiveness of my sin. I believe with my heart that you raised Jesus from the dead for my benefit, and I now declare Him to be my saviour and Lord. Amen!

If you just prayed as guided above, ALFC has a free package to help you settle in your faith and get started on the journey to a victorious life. Simply call or email us.
