ABOUT:

I’M KNOWN FOR MY WHIMSICAL CREATIVITY AND PASSIONATE MOTIVATION TO COMBINE SOCIAL JUSTICE WITH DESIGN. AS I CONTINUE LEARNING AS A PART OF THE FIVE YEAR BACHELOR OF ARCHITECTURE PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, I HAVE OPEN-MINDEDLY ENTERED INTO THE WORLD OF DESIGN EAGER TO BOTH LEARN FROM IT. AND ADD TO IT. I AM ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW WAYS TO IMMERSE MYSELF IN ART, LITERATURE AND CULTURE SO THAT I CAN CONTINUE TO GROW PASSIONATE ABOUT DESIGN AND ACHIEVE MY GOALS TO POSITIVELY IMPACT THE DIVERSE COMMUNITIES I COME FROM AND SURROUND MYSELF WITH.

STUDIO CUBE MODEL

The concept of this studio cube surrounds freeflowing, repetitive forms to juxtapose the boxlike footprint and enclosure.

STUDIO CUBE MODEL

This project explores the adaptations of using complex joinery in a small scale living study. Using the words “raditing” and “tailored,” a 6’x6’ space was designed with room for work, play, and rest.

2

The concept for this project focuses on the tension between a rigid grid and a dispersion of objects. The grid is meant to give a sense of structure, and order to the city plan whereas the objects give introduction to spontaneity within the ordered system.

Ordered chaos, interconnectivity, and spontaneity are three goals for this superplan. A future city should be concerned with the development of a community in which people can feel both secure and flexible in a schedule, feel encouraged to interact with one another, and feel as though they are easily able to discover new elements of their city daily. Each of these elements will promote an empathetic, happy, and healthy future city

This project tackles the concept of graffiti as a mode of community expression. The concept of graffiti art was established for two main reasons, one being the use of type as a cultural indicator. The second being that graffiti is inherently a mode of expression and empowerment. If the aim is to create a project that both amplifies and incorporates the voice of the community, the library must exist as a blank canvas for graffiti art.

LA’S GRAFFITTI LIBRARY

The library houses spray cans, art supplies, and prints in addition to the books.

The design consists of large flat walls, and type or lettering as a patterned joint. A linear organization with varied heights in elevation was established in an effort to mimic city skylines and alleyways.

This project is designed as affordable emergency housing for a site in Los Angeles.

The driving concept for this project is playful functionalism. We wanted to build on simple, repetitive forms and introduce a whimsical energy to a modular set of living spaces. Following the idea of playfulness, we thought about each module as beads on a necklace, offsetting them and placing them on the site in a serpentine string. The final site created circular micro communities or pseudo neighborhoods. This encourages the feeling of belonging and permanence for residents in need of emergency housing. The forms create a nested living space with one another. This set houses two single units and one family unit. *Designed in collaboration with Hunter Barnett

CIRCULAR HOUSING

CIRCULAR HOUSING 12

This project tackles the current LA housing crisis and specifically aims to uplift and resocialize the vulnerable elderly population and foster youth aging out of the system. Oasis functions on a mentorship program in which community leaders are paired with a group of foster teens to mentor and volunteers are trained in order to become liscensed caretakers for the elderly. Grouping these two populations into one co-op allows for us to establish the sensation of a diverse neighborhood as an alternative to nursing homes for elderly and group homes for teens. Oasis instead offers intergenerational interaction and steps towards full autonomy in which members of our co-op feel part of the larger LA community

OASIS: AN INTERGENERATIONAL HOUSING CO-OPERATIVE
13

The formal strategies of Oasis are based on a 4x4 courtyard grid plan overlayed on an organic circulation system which changes for each floor. The circulation routes are formalized as polycarbonate walkways that facilitate spontaneous interaction and a natural flow of movement that can be personalized to each user. The majority of housing is ADA single person so as to allow for a sense of autonomy and privacy that would otherwise not be widely accessable to these groups. Natural elements and greenery are weaved throughout the project so that the structure functions as an Oasis for nature as well.
