Government of India has sent two ships to Iraq to evacuate stranded Indians. Official sources said that cargo ships have also been sent to Basra to carry Indians to the nearest safe port from where Indian Air Force (IAF) of Air India planes will carry them back home. There are 10,000 Indians in the country and some of them have already come back. The government is putting up camp offices at various places, including Karbala, Najaf and Basra. India has already issued an advisory urging all Indian nationals, who wish to travel voluntarily, that they can take commercial flights out from the airports of Irbil,

Baghdad, Najaf and Basra. The government is doing everything to bring back Indians from strife-torn Iraq. With the situation in Iraq fast spinning out of control, the Indian government is putting all the efforts to evacuate Indians not only from Sunni-controlled troubled areas, but also herded them out from relatively peaceful Shiadominated regions.
