Bespoke residence in sought-after western suburb People living with disability who require specialised home and living arrangements may now be eligible for specialist disability accommodation (SDA) funding through their National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plan, opening a range of new and exciting home and living options. Ability WA CEO Jacquie Thomson said for too long people with disability have had little-or-no choice about where and how they live. “This could be living in a poorly designed house, living with family who can no longer provide support, living in residential aged care and hospital, or living in a large group home,” she said. “There is growing awareness that these options are inadequate and outdated, and do not reflect our shared values and aspirations as a community. “With the introduction of SDA, eligible people with disability can now dream of modern and well-designed homes that enable them to live safer and more independent lives with the support they need.” WHAT IS SPECIALIST DISABILITY ACCOMMODATION? The NDIS provides funding to eligible people living with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs to live in SDA. SDA homes are designed to provide many accessible features, so residents can find independence in their everyday living. Assistive technology is increasingly being incorporated into new SDA homes and can be tailored to meet the needs of individual residents. Each home is built to meet strict SDA design standards to create homes that empower the people living in them. The design of the homes offer people with disability greater control and choice, as well as access to safe and quality support services.

Each residence has a generously sized main bedroom with built-in robes and an ensuite equipped with accessible technology to assist residents requiring Fully Accessible SDA.

A DIFFERENT APPROACH As a leading disability service provider in Western Australia, Ability WA has a strong commitment to valuing people with disability, building communities and delivering quality services.

There is also a second bedroom and bathroom to provide choice and flexibility for residents’ living arrangements. Meeting strict SDA design requirements, the apartments are equipped with integrated accessible technology to assist residents and their support team in daily living.

Ability WA is committed to empowering people to realise their abilities by building their capacity to live as independently as possible. Ability WA is excited to offer exceptional SDA apartment living in beautiful Shenton Park, in collaboration with SDA provider partner Ability First Australia Community Housing Ltd and leading local property developer Hesperia.

Communal areas include open and private amenities such as a residents’ lounge, an alfresco with a barbecue, a wine room and a productive garden. Community-focused amenities will provide people with retail and hospitality spaces that will include an allied health provider and a fullservice, alfresco-style dining venue by North Street Store.

Hesperia, the team behind the State Buildings and COMO The Treasury, is transforming heritage-listed Victoria House into a mix of health, hospitality and commercial spaces to provide an outstanding lifestyle offering for residents. As part of the $75 million development, national not-for-profit Ability First Housing has secured five two-bedroom SDA apartments. “We are delighted to announce our partnership with Ability First Housing, with our aligned social values and purpose being realised in Victoria House,” Ms Thomson said. “Ability WA is experienced at working closely with people who need significant support every day, enabling them to live greater, more connected and independent lives.” The apartments will be Ability First Housing’s first SDA acquisition as a fully registered NDIS SDA provider. Ability First Australia, the owner of Ability First Housing, is a national strategic alliance representing 14 of Australia’s leading disability service providers, including Ability WA, and created its community housing subsidiary as Australia’s first 100 per cent not-for-profit housing entity designed to acquire and lease

Residents will live independently while receiving the support they need to realise their life’s goals. A NEW STANDARD OF LIVING Originally built in 1938, Victoria House is a

genuine mixed-use project that will become the heart of Montario Quarter’s village precinct. With a strong community-centred design approach, residences span three architectdesigned boutique buildings. Each SDA apartment has been carefully crafted to feature spacious and connected living areas, with a large accessible balcony boasting views over the precinct and leafy Shenton Park. Inside the SDA apartments, residents will enjoy contemporary living spaces inspired by, and complementary to, Victoria House’s heritage character. Exceptional materials have been carefully selected for aesthetic appeal and durability. Bespoke design solutions are showcased throughout, with the apartments featuring an average eight-star Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme rating.

Hesperia Director Kyle Jeavons said the partnership with Ability WA reflected the company’s commitment to facilitate access to high-quality housing for people with disability. “This partnership will facilitate greater housing choices and increased opportunities for the independence of people with disability,” Mr Jeavons said. “We’re proud to incorporate the SDA initiative at Victoria House.” TIME TO BREATHE Nestled within the highly sought-after western suburbs, Victoria House is conveniently located
