FROM BABY STEPS TO A HUGE LEAP....

Hello everyone! I am TM Abha, The chief editor of the Orafest Newsletter of RG Orators Toastmasters Club (July21Mar22). I am a Toastmaster for the last 15 months and have been working as the club VPPR from July 2021.

I am a computer savvy homemaker. From taking baby steps by performing different roles in Toastmasters fraternity to becoming a VPPR of the club was quite challenging for me.

"Where there is a will, there is a way." At every step of my journey, there was a lot to learn and grasp. Creating a newsletter was also a challenging task for me but because of the team work it became possible.

FROM THE DESK OF EXCOM The Success of a team is determined by the collective efforts of all the team members. My journey as a Club President of RG Orators Toastmasters Club was like raising champions. I had the privilege to lead a team of super talented women empowering the club with their creativity and excellence. The environment of collaboration, harmony and respect has worked as the best Nutrition for me throughout.

As a servant leader, I have learnt how to develop others by delegating responsibilities yet be resourceful and accommodative to the team members in achieving their personal and team goals. I got a chance to practice my coaching style, decision-making skills, conflict handling, negotiation skills and to develop a succession plan to ensure the sustainability of a strong and successful club.

TM Pravina Bharija IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT The privilege to be a member of RG Orators Executive Committee for the third time in a row has helped me explore the avenues of leadership. I was able to learn so many management techniques like collaboration,delegation and practice my leadership qualities to make the club shine in District 98. During this journey, I unlearnt habits like reacting rather than responding and reinstated my faith in the teamwork.

I turned over a new leaf in my life, in the role of the Vice President Education (VP Ed.) of RG Orators Toastmasters Club.

"It always seems impossible until it is done". Breaking the Ice by taking baby steps in my journey, I learnt to pen down the action plans and to review it regularly. Networking helped me to work and coordinate with members closely to help them achieve their personal goals which in turn contributed towards the Club goals. My role also taught me how to plan and execute Short and Long term Goals successfully.

Association of the Wonderful Women of RG Orators has brought a new version of myself i.e. LAKSHMI 2.0...

I am elated to work with the Assiduous Executive committee team of RG Orators Toastmasters Club. In this journey of Vice President Membership, I got the opportunity to interact with number of toastmasters across the country and learnt to network. Conducting 2 open houses during this tenure gave me confidence to arrange big events and to interact with people to understand their learning needs. This role has helped me polish my soft skills like communication, flexibility and empathy. Promoting Toastmasters in our community by inviting guests for meetings, connecting with them and guiding them has worked like a catalyst in boosting my confidence.

It was quite exciting to be the Vice President Public Relations of RG Orators Toastmasters club. I got a chance to manage Social media handles of a volunteer organization and promote the club through various posters and videos. I got a chance to meet and network with a number of creative and enthusiastic Toastmasters across the globe. Of course there were challenges but I believe we learn by doing and so I continued challenging myself. Gratitude for my club members who motivated me to explore my creativity, design and develop the website and launch an exclusive YouTube channel for the club.

FROM THE DESK OF EXCOM Secretary After becoming an Excom Member in Toastmasters, I learnt many new things which led to my Personal growth. Besides giving speeches and taking roles in the meetings, I understood the working of the club, the things involved in organising meetings at the back end and the various challenges and issues faced by the Excom in resolving them. It was indeed a great learning experience being a Secretary of a club.

“Prove yourself to yourself, not others” these lines motivate me to learn and grow. While doing the Treasurer role in the club, I have learnt networking skills, soft skills, how to deal with people, how to express my opinion and most importantly how to work in a team. When we are playing a leadership role it develops our overall mindset and yes, I can say that inspite of lots of other responsibilities. I managed to do my job with complete focus and commitment as well as Transparency.

I joined Toastmasters two years back with the hope of conquering my fear of public speaking but accepting the office of Sergeant-At-Arms of RG Orators Toastmasters Club proved to be a complete package for my transformation. This role has taught me to be accountable before and after each meeting. It has given me opportunity to handle online meetings with multi-tasking, explore new applications, practice my leadership style and to be resilient during behind the screen challenges. Joining Toastmasters has been a life changing decision for me to fulfil my mission of becoming a confident Public Speaker and serving as an Executive Committee member has been cherry on the cake.

What is your motivation to participate and win contests?

I

I have always believed that challenges are a way to discover oneself. My journey of self discovery began by participating in speech contests. What motivated me was not winning trophies but the opportunity for testing the skills that I learnt in Toastmasters. When I challenged myself to be a better and more confident speaker and focussed on it without worrying about the outcome, the winning took care of itself.

What is your secret behind winning contests?

"Believe in yourself " It seems like yesterday when I joined the Toastmaster community and I was taught one thing believe in yourself, winning and losing is a part of every game but what makes you an actual fighter is your perseverance to keep trying. The secret behind winning contests right from HSC,ESC,TTC and ISC at various levels was my untiring attitude of never giving up, always listening to and abiding by the constructive feedback provided by my mentors and my peers which eventually helped me not only in scaling heights in my journey of Toastmasters but also crafted my personal as well as professional life.

NEW JOURNEY TM Rashi

My very first toastmasters meeting was in the month of July. I think a month or two before I officially joined RG ORATORS Club in August 2021 and it was an online meeting of course.

Initially, I had thought toastmasters to just be a platform to polish English or public speaking skills. But as I continued to follow and listen to all the role players and speakers it was a revelation to me that Toastmasters is a complete institution in itself. Here I’m getting an opportunity to develop and improve my personality as a full makeover.

I had half-heartedly joined that first meeting but now after six months I am learning each day and now I am a whole heartedly proud toastmaster.

During lockdown, I was in a looking zone to work upon my personality development and keep myself positive in a depressing time. In July 2021, I got a chance to attend Open House of RG Orators Toastmasters Club and then decided to join the club to improve my Public Speaking skill. After attending few meetings and taking different roles I feel confident. Now I can write my speeches, deliver them in front of the audience and can express my views with confidence. Word of the day and phrase of the day in each meeting is helping me improve my vocabulary.For me, Toastmasters is like my family who is showing me the right path of learning and self-development.

Homemaker Bhawna became Toastmaster Bhawna after attending an interactive meeting of RG orators Toastmasters club. I would like to Thank TM Pallavi for showing me this opportunity and encouraging me to join Toastmasters International which is helping me become a confident public speaker. In Toastmasters, I started my journey by taking small roles in the club which helped me boost my confidence.

Roles like TMOD and contest chair have groomed me to lead a small team and learn how to coordinate with team members. Taking part in different contests as role Players like Timer, Ballot counter has given me different exposure all together. I want to thank all my club members for extending their constant love and support. I am enjoying the journey and want to continue this journey of Toastmasters for many more years– TM Bhavna Sharma

TOASTMASTERS BECKONS GINIE MINIE CLUB

It is said that “Necessity is the mother of Invention". One such beautiful Invention was Ginie-Minie Club formed in April 2020 for the brats and cuties of RG Orators club members. The club was formed during covid times. Children were at home and these curious minds asked their mothers about Toastmasters meetings. What is SAA? What is GE? What do they do? So, a proper pathway was created to lessen the boredom of children according to their age group. All participated actively and stunned everyone with their performances.

BACK TO PAVILION I think everyone should renew their toastmasters membership as it is a kind of investment which promotes continuous growth and continuous learning. Moreover, from the past two years virtual trips all around different clubs, areas, divisions and districts helped in networking with people who are ready to help you at the Eleventh hour. Toastmasters International is an ocean of learnings so I am back in Orators to sail through and explore the hidden treasures.

Now-a-days the biggest hurdle in front of parents is how to give less screen time to their children specially toddlers. So here I'm telling you my way to make a diy game for your child which will keep them engaged specially during feed time and helps in improving concentration as well.

Material required just three things 1. 1box ( cake box,any courier box,shoe box) 2.print out of any character of your choice (cartoon,animal, bird etc) 3.cotton balls Now just paste the character selected by you on the top of the box and make one hole in it so that the cotton ball can go inside .

Say to your child come let's feed this character give them a cotton ball to put in the hole . It's done .As I used shark you can use thing 🦈

To make this house I used a discarded A.C Box, a piece of net to decorate plants, used an oil can to shape the elephant, reused some noodle cups, containers, old diyas, used an old bottle to make the honeybee, used some recycled laces, paints to make it beautiful. So, friends believe in recycle-reusereduce.

All I have is confidence as a compass, Together with resilience as an extra sail.

While the gale brings a shake, Cool breeze makes it tranquil.

Health Benefits: Amla juice is perfect to cool on a day when the sun scorches you down. Amla, also known as Indian gooseberry, is derived from the Sanskrit work Amalika. This fruit is highly regarded in Ayurveda due to its anti-oxidant properties and high amounts of vitamin C. Juice helps in circulation of blood and purification of colon, bladder, and kidneys.

A hydrated body reflects in healthy-looking skin, lush lips, clear eyes, and healthy scalp.

Ingredients: ·Indian Gooseberry(150 g) ·Rock sugar or Mishri (80g) ·Ginger(2-3 pieces) ·Black pepper (crushed) ·Rock Salt ·Mint Leaves(10-12) ·Lemon

Method: 1. Boil gooseberry for 5 mins and remove seeds.

2. Blend gooseberry, ginger, mishri, mint leaf and black pepper to make a smooth paste.

3. Add water as required and blend into a juice consistency.

4. Strain into a jar, add salt as per taste and refrigerate.

5. Pour amla juice into Glasses, add one tsp of lemon juice, garnish with mint leaves and serve.

ME THE BLOGGER TM JYOTI BHAT

I was working on my second path and was determined to take on different elective projects rather than doing those which I had done earlier. That's what makes the journey more interesting, isn't it?

I am not so tech savvy but I believe in learning everything first hand, so the idea of writing a blog interested me. As I was involved actively in the Plastic awareness campaign in the township and had been following it through a WhatsApp group to keep the awareness alive, I fixed the topic of my blog, "My tryst with nature".

Toastmasters has taught me to focus on the reader’s interests more than what one wants to tell them. Hence, I tried to make the blog allinclusive by selecting a variety of topics like Why natural living? What is zero waste? Green parenting, Few zero waste recipes and Important ‘Rs’ of sustainability.

The topic being very close to my heart, I had tons of material for writing including my own experiences. I thoroughly enjoyed writing this blog and also received a huge response to each and every entry that I made and got a few suggestions too.

I encourage everyone to take up this interesting project in the pathways not only to try something new but also to write and share about your passion, hobby or a skill. Happy blogging to all.

GUESTS DIARY Guest corner I am inspired by an all-women’s club, RG Orators. The quality of meetings and the execution of the Toastmasters value and rules is to the T. All members are very welcoming - TM Pravina, TM Laskhmi, TM Abha, TM Saishri and TM Sakshi.

The entire club functions like a team - some members are good at Trivia; some are good hosts and organisers; some are good speakers and many more. The beauty of Orators is that each member SPECIALISES in their strength and executes it to the perfection. Orators have become my one stop solution to understanding Toastmasters in a more TM Priyanka Panigrahi profound way. Thank you, my dear Orators. 🔥

I have never attended this type of Toastmasters Meeting ever.

The meeting had immense energy with a fun filled theme by TMOD. All the Speakers and Role Players were fantastic. The Presiding Officer greeted guests, members and declared the names of the Mentors of new members, carried out business session and discussed Club’s Meeting Guidelines. The Role Mentors were acknowledged by PO and the doubts of members were clarified. The Table Topics segment was very exciting. TM Saishri started the segment with tremendous energy and innovation. The topics were very good and apt with the theme. I really liked the idea of timing the role players for smooth & timely completion of the meeting. I thoroughly enjoyed and definitely looking forward to joining more meetings as a role TM Rushikesh Kawalkar player.

It’s always a great experience to be a part of Orators club meetings. I appreciate the warm welcome by the entire team. Learning always comes with great sharing. I always look forward to being part of their meetings. I love the creativity they bring in every meeting. Kudos to the team for always being instrumental in helping.
