Through his picaresque journey we learn the story of his life: the great pleasure he gets from blowing things up leads via mental hospital, the Spanish Civil War, and the Gulag, to ridiculous encounters with Franco, Stalin, Reagan, and finally to a career as a double agent. A wonderfully entertaining shaggy dog story.
