Background

Project Details

The Lagos State Task Force current located at Oshodi, along with other arms of the state defense, aims to move into their own site.

The contract was awarded to MTGSL to design and develop the facility.

The site located at Isheri is a strategic location for the state which aims to situate a defense unit close to the entrance from the north of the state which will work in conjuction with other facilities setup elsewhere.

This design features over 50 close offices, open plan offices and other private executive offices, special offences court for trials, warehouse, male and female dormitories for officers, a fuel dump for staff and patrol vehicles, car maintenance workshop, 4 watch towers for surveillance amongst many other facilities.

My involvement in a design team of 2 was the design of the Warehouse; Dormitories; Car maintenance; Fuel dump and the site layout of these areas which includes the impound lot for impounded vehicles. I also carried out construction drawings for all buildings.

Located along Channels TV Avenue, the site features a slope with a difference in height of just over 6m which affects the zonning of activites. The rear end will filled to a level just above the road with respect to the slope.

Dormitories are located at the rear close to the LSDPC Estate.

- Renderings - Minimal Modification This project involves the interior design of some selected spaces that are crucial to operations at this office building.

The aim was to provide a modern and minimal look to the interior space with their company’s colours of Green, Gold and Chacoal Grey used sparingly.

Some design choices were made to keep cost at an attainable amount while still creating an interesting environment for executives and workers alike.

Development in Ikorodu is sprawling and has in some cases seen uncontrollable growth and urban expansion which has neglected town planning in some areas and disregarded highly modernised buildings.

With Ewu Elepe relatively less developed than major areas in Ikorodu, a group site vicinity survey was carried out to propose various building functions in key parts of Ewu Elepe.

This led to an individual proposal of a modern Community Secondary School off Ijede Road to cater for a subsection of the community with ample space for future expansion when more areas start to develop and population inreases.

The brief was to design a Community Secondary School with designated spaces and direction for future expansion for when the Community’s population increases.

With that in mind clear blocks for relative activities were set out by functions.

Green areas in the site helps to create a similar envronment in the community which has good vegetation.

There are Guest and Staff parking, so the auditorium can be rented out for community hall meetings and other community functions on weekends mainly which would limit guests to that area. The round about helps to remove crossing at the intersection to control movement and give priority to the major road.

Brief History

Project Details

Located in the outskirts of Lagos, Nigeria.

Caleb University is quickly becoming a household name in the city as the first established private university. Due to traffic congestions and an increasing involvement of the Institution in inter-university activites, a brief was put out to design a guest house that can accomodate guests from other universities and guest who visit but reside outside the state.

Site : Building Area :

There are no fenced buildings on campus, the insitution builds major buildings in zones and put up supporting/relative facilities nearby which gives reason for the large area earmarked for the project. In this case trees are used to define the boundaries of the site.

It also includes restaurant facilities that links directly with an outdoor spill out area and a pool lounge and other indoor lounges.

21,027 sqm 3,323 sqm

This design features 45 bedroom units for accomodation, a 126 seater multipurpose hall with an exhibition space, partitioned classrooms for seminars, a 432 raked seating amphitheatre which can also be utilizes for sports such as tennis, volleyball or a practice court and a 72 car parking lot.

All of these is located in a site sloping deeply on both its x and y axis.

to force or to flow?

Having to choose between one of two choices, forcing the site to conform to the design intention by leveling to a large degree seemed to be easier to design but would have large cost implication, or to flow with the slope.

Given the degree of slope on the site, this design is influenced by the slope and adapts the building to the its gradient. In this scenerio the option to slightly grade the slope of areas like the road and the parking lot could be financially benefitial to the client. It also gives room for some interesting levels within the building.
