Summary: This Plan of Action was designed based on my comprehensive observation of the Standing Committee as a National Assistant (SCORP General Assistant), my 4+ years of experience, my understanding of the position, its requirements, duties, and responsibilities. The SCORP Strategy & Regulations were also kept in mind. Furthermore, the consultations were conducted with the old and experienced members for inputs and feedback. Accordingly, the Plan of Action has been divided into 5 major pillars, each tackling a specific area of the Standing Committee that needs extra attention, inspection, and development to ensure the sustainability and overall development of the Standing Committee for the terms to come. This Plan covers all the concepts and ideas I intend to be working on during my term (If elected). Future amendments are possible after a thorough evaluation of the plan is conducted, and before it has been translated into an Annual Working Plan. To ensure success, I will maintain open lines of communication with the National Team members, providing support and guidance as needed. Additionally, I will anticipate potential obstacles or challenges and develop contingency plans to overcome them.

Finally, upon completion of each task or milestone, I will evaluate the results against the initial goal and make any necessary improvements for future actions. Overall, my plan of action involves careful planning, effective communication, proactive problem-solving, and continuous evaluation to achieve desired outcomes.

Important Notes: This Plan of Action was developed using a flexible and dynamic approach in order to adapt to the changing situation in Sudan.

Regular reviews of the plan will be conducted to assess its effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and incorporate lessons learned from previous experiences. This will ensure that the plan remains adaptable and responsive to changing circumstances.

Motivation Letter: Dearest MedSIN-Sudan General Assembly, I am delighted and grateful to stand before you today as a candidate for the National Officer on Human Rights & Peace position. Five years ago, I envisioned myself in this moment, having been positively impacted by my involvement in the inspiring Standing Committee. The friendships made, unforgettable memories, and hard work invested in making the SC the best it can be will never be forgotten. I am now applying for the position of National Officer on Human Rights & Peace for the 2023/24 term to continue giving back to the Standing Committee that has changed me for the better.

As NORP, my priority is to ensure the sustainability of the Standing Committee’s work and lay a foundation for future generations of SCORPions. I have previously said on several occassions that dreaming of a peaceful world where everyone is entitled to their rights as Human Beings, regardless of anything but the mere fact that they are “Humans''”, and they deserve to fully enjoy these rights without any discrimination or delay is not enough. Working towards turning this dream into a reality for all is a great responsibility that falls upon us; medical students, future healthcare providers, and most importantly, human rights enthusiasts and advocates.

Let us take action and work towards realizing our potential and that of our members. I am committed to contributing to the development of the Standing Committee and our NMO as a whole. Let us act now and not delay any longer.

VISION TO WORK ON EMPOWERING MEDICAL STUDENTS TO BECOME ADVOCATES FOR HUMAN RIGHTS, FOSTERING A CULTURE OF PEACE AND EQUALITY IN HEALTHCARE.

1- Sustainability & Organizational Work: Sustainability is a critical aspect of organizational work that involves adopting responsible practices to ensure the long-term viability of our organisation while also contributing positively to society and the community.

1.1 My roles towards the Team of Officials: 1.1.1: Regularly attend the TOMs and other TOs meetings/activities.

1.1.2: Send/Share and submit the proposals, reports, and all required documents on time.

1.1.3: Contribute to creating a safe and healthy working environment, and the overall development of our NMO. 1.1.4: Prioritise transparency and open communication with the rest of the TOs/EB. 1.1.5: Provide assistance and support whenever needed.

1.1.6: Abide by the MedSIN-Sudan Constitution & Bylaws at all times.

1.2 My roles toward the National Team members: 1.2.1: Conduct a thorough needs assessment at the beginning of the term to assess each NT member needs and address them accordingly.

1.2.2: Hold individual meetings with each NT member to ensure a smooth and efficient hand-overing process from their predecessors.

1.2.3: Prioritise transparency, accountability, and open communication.

1.2.4: Ensure fair and equal workload distribution among the NT members.

1.2.5: Create a safe, healthy, and mental-friendly working environment among the team, and promote healthy team dynamics.

1.2.6: Regularly follow up with them through NT meetings, mental health checklist, reports, reflection sessions, and other mechanisms.

1.3 My roles toward the International Team: 1.3.1: Fill the SCORP section of the NMO report.

1.3.2: Inform the SCORP RA of the region when the term is ending, and hand over the contact to the incoming NORP. 1.3.3: Attend all required meetings with the SCORP RA. 1.3.4: Effectively participate in all NORPs consultation meetings/assessment forms.

1.3.5: Attend the IFMSA Meetings and secure MedSIN-Sudan SCORP Voting Right at the SCORP Plenaries.

1.3.6: Work with and encourage the LORPs to enroll their SCORP activities under one or more IFMSA SCORP Program by educating them on the importance of enrolment.

1.3.7: Fill out relevant calls for input, assessment and evaluation forms when requested by the SCORP IT, including the NMO Report if requested by the NMO President.

1.4 National Team Handover: 1.4.1: Identify key tasks and responsibilities for each NT position.

1.4.2: Set a timeline for the handover process with the ex NT. 1.4.3: Conduct a handover meeting.

1.4.4: Evaluate the handover process by conducting individual meetings with each NT member to assess the overall handover and identify key areas for potential development and improvement.

1.4.5: Continuous follow-up for the handover process to ensure the smooth workflow.

1.5 LORPs Monitoring, Evaluation, & Development: The purpose of this M&E plan is to outline the methods that will be used to monitor and evaluate and assess the LORPs throughout the term.

1.5.1: Needs Assessment: At the beginning of the term to assess and evaluate the LORPs situation and design competency-based activities. This will also help in assessing the level of impact and improvement.

1.5.2: LORPs Pairing System: Since its establishment in the 2020-21 term, the LORPs Pairing System has always been useful for the LORPs and NT. By continuing this system I will ensure that LORPs are grouped in a way that can foster cooperation and peer learning, and exchange of experiences 1.5.2.1: Review & assess the 22/23 SCORP Pairing System to identify areas for improvement.

1.5.2.2: Launch the new term Pairing System and assign the NT members for follow up.

1.5.3: Proposals & Reports: This will be used to contribute effective communication, informed planning efforts, planning, documentation requirements, and to gauge the effectiveness of the relevant activities.

1.5.4: National Meetings: An agreement with the NT will be made to set the frequency of the National Meetings. The National Meetings should and will serve as a safe space for LORPs to discuss and share their experiences. In addition to a CB session during each meeting.

1.5.5: Newly appointed LORPs & new LMOs: 1.5.5.1: Special attention will be given to newly appointed LORPs and new SCORP Active LMOs in order to bridge the gap between them and the old LORPs/SCORP Active LMOs. This mainly will be through the LORPs Pairing System.

1.5.5.2 SCORP Activation Manual: Revise, update, and modernise (If necessary) the manual to ensure that it is relevant and understandable for newly appointed LORPs to grasp the crucial elements of their position.

1.5.6: LMOs Outside Khartoum: 1.5.6.1: Create a follow up system for LMOs outside Khartoum through LMO visits (Online and Physical if feasible).

1.5.6.2: Increase collaboration between LMOs outside Khartoum by assigning NT members to help and guide them through.

1.5.6.3: Host at least 1 national activity (Workshop/CB activity) in an LMO outside Khartoum.

1.6 LORPs & Members Engagement: 1.6.1: Develop a communication system with the LORPs which will be elaborated on the first national meeting.

1.6.2: Create a feedback mechanism to gather input from LORPs on their satisfaction with the SC and its activities.

1.6.3: Provide recognition and rewards for LORPs/members who contribute to the SC success.

1.6.4: Regularly updating the LORPs folder.

1.6.5: Continuously evaluate and adjust the engagement plan based on feedback from members and changes in the SC goals or priorities.

1.6.6: A call for inputs on my AWP will be opened for LORPs to make sure they are able to effectively participate in the term.

1.6.7: Share LORPs & SCORP members activities on SCORP platforms for inspiration.

1.7 SCORP Strategy: 1.7.1: Conduct a thorough analysis of what has been achieved from the strategy and what is yet to be achieved.

1.7.2: Apply a dynamic approach in dealing with difficulties, obstacles, and challenges faced during the past terms, ability and adaptation to propose appropriate adjustments according to the given situation.

1.7.3: Implement the previous term strategy evaluation report action points.

1.7.4: Finalise the strategy end term report to be submitted by SNGA24.

Overall: The monitoring and evaluation of the term will be an ongoing process to ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of the AWP. This will involve regular analysis to assess the impact of the National Activities & initiatives, and identify areas for improvement.

The evaluation will also involve gathering feedback from LORPs, including SCORP members, and representatives to ensure that the PoA is meeting their needs and expectations.

The results of the monitoring and evaluation will be used to make informed decisions about the AWP adjustments and to ensure that the PoA is achieving its goals and objectives.

2- Capacity Building: Capacity Building is essential for personal growth, organizational development, community empowerment, and sustainable development. It enables individuals and organizations to achieve their goals effectively while promoting innovation, resilience, efficiency, collaboration, and empowerment.

2.1: NT Capacity Building: The aim of this is to upscale the skills and knowledge of the NT members in their specific roles, and respective positions, fostering teamwork and ensuring efficient collaboration within the NT. 2.1.1: Conduct a needs-assessment for the NT members.

2.1.2: Analyse the outcomes of the needs assessment to design a NT-CB Program accordingly.

2.2: LORPs Capacity Building: 2.2.1 Needs Assessment: Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment to identify the LORPs needs and categorise them into 3 levels (Basic-Intermediate-Advanced). This assessment will help tailor the capacity building interventions according to their unique requirements.

2.2.2 Mini CB Themes during National Meetings; in order to help the LORPs with the basic skills like proposals and reports writing, Enrolment, SCORP Projects, and IFMSA Programs.

2.2.3: Monitoring and Evaluation: Establish a monitoring and evaluation framework to assess the progress and impact of the LORPs CB Program interventions.

2.3: National General Assemblies: National General Assemblies present a significant chance for MedSIN-Sudan SCORP members to enhance their skills, abilities, and build their capacities. Therefore, it is crucial to make the most of this opportunity in order to achieve and maximise the desired outcomes of the NGAs. Given the limited time available during each GA, it is important to prioritise topics that have the greatest impact and relevance to SCORP members. Additionally, it is essential for the SCORP Plenaries to be efficient in terms of time management and inclusive for all participants.

2.3.1 SCORP Sessions During General Assemblies: 2.3.1.1: Ensure effective coordination between the NT and Sessions Team & Support Persons to prepare, design, and facilitate the GA sessions.

2.3.1.2: Prior to the GA, prepare easily understandable materials for self-learning and share them with members at least a month in advance.

2.3.1.3: Select the ST/SPs transparently and with specific criteria, taking into account gender and LMO representation.

2.3.1.4: To encourage participation from members, the agenda for SCORP sessions during National General Assemblies can be determined by soliciting feedback through a call for inputs.

2.3.1.5: Conduct parallel sessions of different levels and organise them according to the delegates' evaluation outcomes.

2.3.1.6: Collaborate with other SCs on joint activities and sessions.

2.3.2: SCORP Plenary: 2.3.2.1 Regulations & Regulations Change Proposals: Educate LORPs on the SCORP Regulations and the process of submitting RCPs and amendments during National Meetings.

2.3.2.2: Host an OSD prior to the General Assembly to discuss the submitted RCPs, and provide a general orientation to the members on the Plenary Procedures.

2.3.2.3: Selection of the Plenary Team by opening a call and setting criteria that is based on competency and taking into consideration the LMOs and gender representation.

2.4: THRF: 2.4.1: Uphold the THRF Workshop at least 1 time during the term.

The workshop’s format (online/physical) depends on the country’s situation.

2.4.2: Encourage LORPs to host the workshop in their LMOs by promoting it during National Meetings.

2.4.3: Oversee the efforts of the NT and the organising committee in coordinating the workshop, and ensuring compliance with THRF Regulations through monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and certification of the activity. In addition to providing the necessary technical assistance in case it was to be held virtually.

2.4.4: Revise and update (If necessary) the THRF curriculum and guidelines to ensure its sustainability and adaptability.

2.5: MedSIN-Sudan Human Rights Trainers & Facilitators: 2.5.1: Maintain and update the current MedSIN-Sudan Human Rights Trainers & Facilitators pool to keep track of trainers.

2.5.2: Conduct a Human Rights Trainers & Facilitators needs assessment to identify their needs and make the appropriate interventions to improve their skills and rengage them.

2.5.3: To ensure effective communication and access to opportunities, a centralised communication channel for the SCORP trainers and facilitators will be established.

3- SCORP Activities: Engaging in and conducting activities within student organizations is crucial for holistic development as it offers numerous benefits that go beyond academic achievements. Human rights lie at the core of our vision, mission, and commitment towards our communities. Thus, various Human Rights activities are going to be conducted throughout the term according to the Plan of Action.

3.1: SWGs & Campaigns: 3.1.1 Main SWGs: World Human Rights Day & International Day of Peace. These will serve as the main SWGs & Campaigns throughout the term. In addition to them, I have plans for a new Campaign and SWG idea which I will elaborate on in the following point.

3.1.2 AI, Technology, Health, and Human Rights, Technology, Health, and Human Rights: The campaign aims to raise awareness and promote the responsible and ethical use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in the healthcare sector while advocating for the protection of Human Rights.

3.2: SCORP Projects: 3.2.1: Conduct at least 1-MedSIN-Sudan SCORP Project/s workshop to capacitate and introduce LORPs, SCORP, and general MedSIN-Sudan members to SCORP projects, and their relevance.

3.2.2: Facilitate and ease communication between LORPs and SCORP Project/s Coordinator/s by organising meetings to bring together LORPs & Project/s Coordinator/s.

3.2.3: Encourage and support LORPs to make local SCORP Projects in their LMOs by providing the necessary resource, assistance, and guidance.

3.2.4: Propose at least 1 new MedSIN-SCORP Project. The proposal is going to be organized by the help of the NT, and a call for inputs will be opened.

3.3: SCORP Database: 3.3.1: This database will serve as a repository for resources and activities carried out by LORPs, SCORP members, and general members, and falls under the SC Focus Areas.

3.3.2: It will provide a comprehensive overview of the work done by SCORP members nationally and allows for easy sharing of best practices and ideas.

3.3.3: It will also serve a resource for medical students who are interested in getting involved in SCORP activities.

3.3.4: In addition to documenting past activities and serving as an institutional memory for the SC, the database will allow members to search for specific types of information/activities or filter them by topic/focus area.

3.4: Supporting Local Activities: 3.4.1: Review the activities proposals, give feedback and any advice needed.

3.4.2: Capacitate LORPs & SCORP members on Activity Management Skills.

3.4.3: Encourage LORPs to enroll activities under the relevant IFMSA Program/s by capacitating them on IFMSA Programs and including an Enrolment 101 session in the LORPs CB Program.

3.4.4: Encourage LORPs to collaborate on activities via the LORPs pairing system.

3.5: Community Outreach Activities: 3.5.1 Health Education Workshop: Organize a workshop in at least one local community to educate people about various health topics such as hygiene, nutrition, and disease prevention in collaboration with the relevant National Officer/TO. 3.5.2 Community Outreach Toolkit: This toolkit will provide guidance on conducting effective community outreach activities, including organizing health camps, mobile clinics, and awareness campaigns. It will include templates for planning outreach events, engaging with community leaders, and evaluating the impact of these activities. A SWG call will be opened for the toolkit.

4- Publication, Communication & Visibility: Publication and visibility are of crucial importance in organizational work as they help build and maintain a positive reputation, manage crises, engage targeted communities, influence public opinion, and manage relationships with stakeholders.

4.1: SCORP Platforms: 4.1.1: Activate all MedSIN-Sudan SCORP Platforms with a special focus on the Facebook Group in order to make it a more interactive one rather than a platform for sharing announcements and updates only.

4.1.2: Increase Human Rights information shared on the platforms.

4.1.3: Ensure the work of the SCORP NT is transparent by sharing regular updates with members.

4.1.4: Keep LORPs & SCORP members informed about Human Rights & Peace opportunities within or outside the SC and encourage them to participate.

4.2: Manuals & Toolkits: 4.2.1: Revise and update the SCORP Activation Manual.

4.2.2: Refugees Health & Rights Manual: As Sudan hosts a significant number of refugees from neighboring countries, this manual can provide guidance on addressing the unique health challenges faced by refugees. It can cover topics such as access to healthcare services, mental health support for trauma survivors, and promoting community integration.

4.2.3: Community Outreach Toolkit: Page 13 contains additional details and elaboration on the toolkit.

4.3: International SCORP Days: 4.3.1: Celebrate International SCORP Days by sharing posters, posts, and encouraging SCORP members to make activities.

Campaigns for World Human Rights Day & International Day of Peace.

4.3.2: Advocacy Initiatives; Launch advocacy initiatives to address specific Human Rights issues prevalent in Sudan.

4.3.3: Artistic Expression; Encourage LORPs & SCORP members to express their thoughts on Human Rights & Peace through various art forms such as graphic designong, poetry, music, videography, etc..

4.4 SCORP Digest & Newsletter 4.4.1: Provide SCORP members with a collection of resources relevant to the SC work.

4.4.2: Share the NT updates and upcoming plans.

4.4.3: Regularly publish the SCORP newsletter on a monthly basis.

4.4.4: Encourage SCORP members to write articles about Human Rights & Peace topics.

4.4.5: Encourage SCORP members to submit activities they conducted in their LMOs. 4.4.6: Connect LORPs & SCORP members from different LMOs. 4.5 SCORP Weekends: The main aim of this initiative is to host monthly Open Space Discussions with MedSINSudan SCORP members, where different SCORP-related topics can be discussed with the NT. In addition to bridging the gap between the members, and getting them to know each other better.

4.5.1: Identify and select the SCORP-related topics for discussion during National Meetings or by opening a call for suggestions.

4.5.2: Encourage active participation and engagement from all SCORP members before and during the discussions by promoting the OSD idea on SCORP Platforms.

4.5.3: Continuously improve and adapt the format of the OSDs based on feedback from participants. In addition to taking notes during the discussions and sharing them with the NT for further action.

4.5.4: Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of the initiative by opening a call for inputs for feedback, new ideas, and suggestions.

5- External Affairs: Effective external affairs are essential for organisations to navigate the complex external environment, build relationships with stakeholders, manage reputation, and contribute to their long-term success. Accordingly, my external affairs plan was designed to contribute to achieving the aforementioned goals.

5.1: SCORP Opportunities: 5.1.1: Broadening horizons: By sharing the relevant international and/or regional SCORP opportunities, thus providing the members with the opportunity for personal growth and development within the SC. This will also allow the members to build networks with other SCORP members from different regions and NMOs. 5.1.2: SCORP Opportunities will be shared on all SCORP Platforms and members will be encouraged to apply. The NT will assist them in doing so.

5.2 External Representation: 5.2.1: Attending the IFMSA GA’s & Regional Meeting/s to represent MedSIN-Sudan SCORP during the NORPs Plenary.

5.2.2: Ensure that MedSIN-Sudan SCORP is active by fulfiling all required tasks and requirements prior to the relevant GA. 5.3 SCORP National Policies: 5.3.1: Create and adopt at least 1 SCORP- related Policy that is relevant to the Human Rights situation in Sudan.

5.3.2: Capacitate LORPs & SCORP members on Policies, Policy Making, and the importance of having HR Policies in the association.

Important Note: SCORP Policies creation & adoption depends on the MedSIN-Sudan Policy System status and activation.

5.4 External Affairs Competency Program: 5.4.1 The objective of this program is to develop and enhance the external affairs competencies of LORPs & SCORP members within MedSIN-Sudan. By equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge, aiming to empower them to effectively engage with SCORP external partners and stakeholders, build strong relationships, and represent their LMOs professionally. In addition to understanding the importance of external affairs for a student organization from a Human Rights perspective. And developing effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills. By implementing this External Affairs plan, MedSIN-Sudan SCORP LORPs & members can effectively advocate for human rights and peace, raise awareness about global health issues, and contribute to creating a more just and peaceful world.

5.5 Inter-Regional Collaboration: The main purpose of this initiative is to strengthen ties between SCORP Members in the region and enable them to collectively address common human rights issues more effectively. Through this collaboration, participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences, knowledge, and skills with each other. And to promote solidarity among medical students and SCORP members across the region.

5.5.1 Joint awareness campaigns: Collaborating on joint awareness campaigns to help raise public consciousness about common regional Human Rights issues.

Africa, SDGs, & Human Rights Campaign: Another potential idea for a regional campaign in the African region that combines the SDGs, Human Rights & Health by focusing on promoting access to Healthcare for Vulnerable Populations.

5.6: MedSIN-Sudan SCORP Stakeholders: 5.6.1 Identify the stakeholders: This step will involve identifying all stakeholders involved in the SC scope of work. This will include NGOs, International Organizations, and other organizations involved in Healthcare and Human Rights in Sudan.

5.6.2 Assess the stakeholders' interests and needs: The next step will be to assess the interests and needs of each stakeholder group. This will involve gathering information on their expectations from the SC, what they hope to achieve, and any concerns or challenges they may face.

5.6.3 Coordinate with MedSIN Sudan VPE to sign written contracts with future collaborators/partners.

5.6.4: Assist the VPE in maintaining the MedSIN-Sudan External database updated.

It is important to note that any stakeholders analysis plan should take into account the context and challenges of the environment in which the association is currently functioning in. This includes political instability, the current ongoing conflict, and other factors that may impact stakeholder engagement and participation. It is important to work closely with local partners and stakeholders to understand the context and develop strategies to address any challenges that may arise.
