ABBY TUCKETT
2022-DesignofSchoolIslandRhode-OpticsGlass 木漏れ日 (Komorebi) Komorebi is a Japanese word expressing the peace one experiences when witnessing the dappled light passing through the treetops. In this glass course, I explored methods to recreate this atmosphere through the screens, glass objects, and additional projections, each with their own contributions to recreate Komorebi.

For the Kid Who Could Not Sit Still
This chair challenges the notion that as a child, you must sit still. By providing a curved base, this chair encourages controlled movement and allows children to exert physical energy allowing for focus on comfort while asked to remain stationary.

What defines “the vessel” and what is the process of understanding/making it? Where can we break rules in the slip-casting process and what do we gain? I used this studio to understand process and rules within slip-casting and architecture. To create this, I created a clay positive, carved the plaster, and then connected the resulting pieces.

Itterative 2021-Itterative
What happens to dried paint? How can one manipulate paint as it dries, alter its final form and then itterate with the result. With this piece, I intially poured paint on a flat surface, peeled off the resulting strip, warped and molded the dried paint on a canvas and then emphasized the texture with additional wet paint

Half-Lap
Desk After learning about the half-lap and other joineries, I explored designing a desk with solely a half-lap joint. Without any additional connecters, this desk can be disassembled and flat packed without any additional tools.

Curved in the Process 2022-DesignofSchoolIslandRhode-VesseltheonViews What rules do we introduce when designing a ceramics factory? How can following/breaking these rules shape the building process, especially considering the role of people within the process?

• society: percentage of people with cars, tv sets, mobile telephone, internet, or other, etc. (20, 21, 22, 23)
• top 4 exports in relation to total exports (plus other as 5th category) (12)
• 4 main export destinations and import origins (plus other as 5th category) (14,15)
• number of airports & railway mi/km, in relation to another country on your continent (24,25)

Mapping Malaysia
• population: per sq km, in relation to Singapore: 8000, and Mongolia: 2 (7)
• population: in relation to 5 other nearby countries (9)
• two additional items relating to your interest (31, 32)
How does one take 32 pieces of information and cohesively and accurately convey it? Given the country of Malaysia, I researched and created 32 solutions and then combined them on a page utilizing various icons and images, often referencing daily life.

2022-DesignofSchoolIslandRhode-Drawings
Throughout the entire semester, I examined, measured, digitally modeled, and rendered a rock. Continuing with the previous project, these is an additional method of rotating and representing the plan and elevation view of every single surface on the rock. Below is a digital model of the rock and my method of turning the surfaces.
Planar Rock Surface

Throughout the entire semester, I examined, measured, digitally modeled, and rendered a rock. These final projects focused specifically on rendering images onto the rock and then seeing the resultant rotations and organizations. I chose a topographical image which I digitally altered in illustrator. I then rendered each surface and then rotated and documented the process again. I then explored some tools in rhino and lineweights in illustrator to create the alternatives and a gif.

Paint Scraps 2022-ScrapsPaint I collect every scrap of paint I accumulate over time. My concept with many pieces is to see the potential for the pieces that no one wants. What are the details that are beautiful, but are not enough to be a piece alone? When combined, what is do we understand about the process, the pieces, and the whole?

Framing System
How can furniture reflect the transient and adaptive nature of apartment-living? This hanging, framing system can be hung on a wall or as a partition, where the pattern and orientation can alter depending on one’s need. The pieces can then be compiled for flatpack travel.
