Greeting from the Board
2020 has presented not only the College, but Australia and the world with many challenges from COVID-19. However, it has still been a great year for the College. All thanks to our God, to Lisa and our wonderful staff. The College has again seen substantial growth in student numbers. We have moved from around 120 at the end of 2019, to 190 currently. With the potential of new classrooms in the New Year, we are planning for at least 229 students for the beginning of 2021. This is a phenomenal achievement and continues to place enormous pressure on our facilities. I would also like to sincerely thank all my Board colleagues; Ben Donaldson, Brendon Donaldson, Gary Rutter and Mark Morris for their hard work and many hours of dedicated service to our College. Thanks to Gary Rutter for all you have done, Gary has resigned and is finishing up on our Board on 31 December 2020 after more than 5 years of service. The College has achieved the following in 2020: All students were set up and working remotely on SEQTA during COVID-school closures. This was a fantastic achievement from our teachers; 5 new demountables and toilet block – February/March 2020; Garrison perimeter fencing installed; Multi-Purpose Resources Building (MPRB): after a long time in the planning, the Board appointed Thomas Builders to build our first in-situ building. This has started with expected completion third term 2021. Plans for 2021 include: 4 temporary demountables and toilet block to cope with the student growth – January 2021, pending completion of the MPRB; We will then be finalizing plans for installing the oval, timelines to be advised in 2021. Finally, the Board would like to thank our Principal, Lisa Potgieter and all of our hard-working staff, all of whom continue to give so much and regularly “go beyond” in their work and service for the College and our students. It will be another exciting year ahead. On behalf of the whole Board, I wish all staff, students, parents, carers, volunteers and our College community a blessed Christmas and a safe, healthy and fulfilling New Year. Bring on 2021. Message from the Principal My heart is overflowing with tremendous thanks and gratitude for being given the opportunity to lead the college as principal. It has been a year of growth and abundant blessings for our college. We have grown in student numbers and infrastructure; we survived the fire at the end of 2019 and we managed to navigate our path safely through the COVID pandemic. I held my breath and my heart skipped a beat on the day the slab was poured for the new building. The dream of our resource centre is slowly but surely becoming a reality. Soon our children will enjoy the privilege of attending classes and learning in the beautiful new building. I would like to thank the College Board who has led and supported me throughout the year with wisdom and patience. It has been a mammoth year of firsts, the most notable being granted our Year 11 and Year 12 registration. God has led us all the way and has cleared many obstacles from our path. We are praying that our steady growth will continue, and that the college will soon be able to cater for Kindy to Year 12. I pray that God continues to protect the teachers, students and families through all the challenges that the new year will bring. I wish the families of our college a blessed and peaceful holiday. Message from the Dean of Students This year has certainly been a learning curve for most of us, including me! I left the United Arab Emirates, after living there for 20 years and immigrated with my girls to Australia. Then COVID crisis unfolded. I never in my wildest imagination thought that the world could be turned upside down by a virus. I was blessed to find myself in a place where I was surrounded by so much kindness and love. No matter what challenges they faced, our amazing teachers have risen above it all and continue to support, love and guide our college students to the best of their ability despite challenging circumstances. I would also like to thank our parents for their continued love and support. This is truly appreciated by each and every one of us and we look forward to continuing your child’s learning journey in 2021. “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”. Primary Coordinator’s Message “It is a land the Lord your God cares for; the eyes of the Lord your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.” Deuteronomy 11:12 We have shared an unforgettable year of learning, growing, building resilience, cherishing friendships and having fun at Atlantis Beach Baptist College. It has been a privilege to journey with our Primary students throughout a year that brought new challenges, opportunities and stories about learning from home that will be shared with generations to come. I am continuously amazed by the dedication our students have displayed in their learning and the values which they have developed to enrich the lives of those around them. Our college values of Strength, Faith and Honour have been recognised and encouraged within each classroom, and I am immensely proud of the achievements and successes that we are able to celebrate together as a community. We acknowledge and thank our Primary Teachers for their dedication, enthusiasm and excellence. Our college is blessed with a caring staff who consistently demonstrate their love and support of our students and families. A special thank you to our wonderful parents for all of your support, encouragement and care throughout this year. You have shared the roller-coaster ride of 2020 – the frustrations and successes, the unexpected home learning lessons, the events and fundraisers – we appreciate all of your time and effort. We could not do it without you! It has been a joy to witness God begin a new work as we eagerly watch and document the building progress taking place at the front of our college. To see the build commence on our highly-anticipated Resource Centre has been an answer to prayer and a reminder that God’s promises are certain as He cares for our college. As we look back on 2020, we can do so with gratefulness and praise for the way in which God has continued to guide and watch over the work of the college, our staff, students and families. Secondary Coordinator’s Message Dear students, families and friends of ABBC As we reflect on 2020, I think you will agree that it was a year full of surprises and most certainly a year that taught us how to stand together against many challenges. Although 2020 was most certainly an interesting year, I am happy to say it was a year with pleasing success in so many levels of school activity, including student achievements and school functions. We are delighted to see how our new resource building being constructed, how our students are achieving great success in our golfing academy and how well students did academically throughout the year. Our college would most certainly not have been so successful without the support of Atlantis Beach Baptist parents and guardians and I send out a heart warming thank you to all who have supported us during 2020. As we head into the holidays, I pray that you will enjoy each day with the Spirit of God leading you and keeping you safe wherever you may go. Thank you to each student that contributed to the life of Atlantis Beach Baptist Colelge and its Christian ethos. We look forward starting 2021 with great enthusiasm and promise to remain committed to provide the best education experience within a safe and loving Christian environment. Year 7 has been a BIG year! Students began their high school journey with excitement and energy. They have loved science, especially the experiments and practical work. The Year 7s showed a great interest in the environment and biodegradability and set up the school’s first and only compost bin! They also made balloon powered sleighs and had fun launching them.

Year 8 science had an tremendous start, with students producing incredibly creative models of cells. The students completed a memorable heart dissection and thoroughly enjoyed a range of experiments.
The year 9 students had their first real taste of chemistry this year and began experimenting with acids, bases and some more dangerous chemicals. The students also undertook a brain dissection and have recently been building and testing electrical circuits. It has been a great year of learning. Science is FUN! Testing the pH of different substances, building models of atoms, modelling the different tectonic plate movements, building and testing seismometers.
I am so proud of how the year 10s have grown and matured. I wish them the very best for their futures!
The Year 10 students have absolutely loved science this year and have had the opportunity to engage in many hands-on learning experiences and activities. We have had lots of fun being creative and learning along the way.
