Saad éí ná’iiłná. Language moves us. Language spoken aloud evokes wind that is said to have entered our bodies at birth. This same creative power imbues our written work. The stories, poems, images, and creative energy that is presented in this collection represents a growing literary culture within the Diné Nation. This burgeoning Diné literary culture adheres to this teaching that language moves us. Language travels to the inner parts of human existence, the inner self where sacred darkness cradles the human heart—a similar darkness to the First World. Ahxéhee’ nitsaago to the 2020 Ha’a’aahdęę Writing Fellows for sharing your voices with us.

Manny Loley Director, Emerging Diné Writers' Institute

This zine was created by the 2020 Ha’a’aahdęę Writing Fellows over the course of six days, the fellows spent their evenings dedicated to sharing music, making art and creating pieces for their own personal zine. At the end of the week the fellows submitted a piece of their work, thus the creation of this wonderful and beautiful zine has come to life! Feel free to listen to the playlist via the spotify link at the end of the zine which was specially curated by the fellows themselves. Please enjoy this beautiful zine made by the 2020 Ha’a’aahdęę Writing Fellows!
