History of Site

~Designers- Horace Trumbauer and Zantzinger, Borie, and Medary Howell ~ The institution’s was established in 1893(Plans were not finalized until 1917). ~Open to public-1928 ~Building opended March 1928 2of 10

~ Muesuem opened with an attendance record of one million visitors in its first year. ~ Its interior was not completed until nearly three decades later.

The Site Today

~Interior is 633,825 sq Ft ~ Lots of traffic on Exterior ~Normally has large number of people inside. ~The Museum mounts 15-20 special exhibitions each year.

Collections ~ The Philadelphia Museum of Art is one of the largest and most important art museums in the US. ~Has collections of very meaningful works/art from a broad range of different cultures throughout time, like objects from B.C. time along witceramics, sculpture, paintings, and decorative objects).
