New projects

Dear AATG Colleagues,

This year has represented the theme of "returning to normal" but has been anything but normal. The reality for most of us is that expectations of in-person events have returned, but the duties and extra precautions of the pandemic era still remain. AATG has indeed been busy and navigated these waters with our summer study program in Germany, our representation at regional and national conferences, and through our expanded program offerings. This year, as well as next, represents another year of adaptation. We will see this in our new software platform for the National German Exam, modified scholarship applications to make programs more accessible, and new projects for 2023 like DivDaF, our seminar on Social (In)Justice in the DaF classroom. Many of these new initiatives have come directly from member suggestions. I encourage each AATG member to network with your friends and co-workers and work to improve our profession, using AATG's infrastructure and network to enact that change. In other words, each member can lead from the grassroots level. Get involved and leverage the strength of AATG to make the changes and improvements we all need in the profession! Reach out directly to board members or myself to start a conversation. As cliche as it might sound, members are the heart and soul of a member-based organization, and we look forward to hearing from each of you!

News from the National Office

Register Students for the National German Exam

Registration for the 2023 National German Exam (NGE) Levels 2, 3, and 4 is now open. Starting this year, the National German Exam (NGE) will be hosted electronically on Lingco (lingco.io), an online language instruction and assessment platform. Video tutorials and written guides are available to walk instructors through the processes of registering students, accessing the NGE practice exams, and administering the exams on Lingco. Learn more about the National German Exam and register students at nge.aatg.org.

Fall Office Closures

The national AATG office will be closed on the following days: November 21, 2022 and November 2325, 2022 in observance of Thanksgiving. We look forward to serving you when the office reopens.

Auch diesen Herbst haben wir wieder eine Vielzahl an spannenden Angeboten für Sie zusammengestellt, die wir Ihnen auf den folgenden Seiten gerne vorstellen möchten. Zunächst aber ein herzliches Willkommen an Stefan Sadecki, der diesen Monat seine Arbeit als Unterrichtsexperte am Goethe-Institut Boston beginnt.

Ein zentrales Thema, das im Deutschunterricht immer mehr an Bedeutung gewinnt, ist Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung. Wie Sie Nachhaltigkeit und BNE ganz einfach in ihren Unterricht integrieren können, zeigen wir Ihnen in unserem Online-Workshop am 28. Oktober. Sie wollen ihre Schüler*innen selbst zum nachhaltigen Handeln motivieren? Kommen Sie mit ihrer Klasse ins Sustainability Lab, unserer neuen interaktiven Lernplattform zu den 17 Entwicklungszielen (SDGs) der Vereinten Nationen.

Das Sustainability Lab ist gestartet! Besuchen Sie die interaktive digitale Lernplattform für jugendlichen zu den 17 Entwicklungszielen der Vereinten Nationen. Teilnehmende erhalten Einblicke durch interaktive Spiele und Unterrichtsmaterialien, lernen neue methodische Zugänge kennen, um das Engagement für eine gerechtere Welt zu stärken, und haben die Möglichkeit mit einem Kreativtool und Videobeiträgen weitere Inhalte für das Lab zu produzieren.
